Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Spanish Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition(SENPE), the Local Organising Committee has the pleasure and privilegeto welcome you to the 34th Congress of the European Society ofClinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) which will be held in Spain inthe historic and cultural city of Barcelona from the 8th to the 11th ofSeptember 2012.

In close collaboration with the members of ESPEN Committees, we havedesigned an attractive educational and scientific programme, whichbroadly covers the fields of nutrition and metabolism. In harmony with themotto of the Congress “Achieving goals in nutrition”, the Congress willaddress the practical aspects of nutritional treatment, defining goals innutrition care and presenting the advances in the last years. We count withrenowned international faculties to join Barcelona for discussing the mostrecent data in their field of expertise.

Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, with more than one million six hundredthousand residents, is located in the north east of Spain. The city is safeand friendly, and it’s a nice place to go sightseeing and visiting wonderfulmuseums.

The Congress will take place in the “International Convention Centre ofBarcelona” (CCIB), located in The Diagonal Mar Area, a new window tothe sea. The CCIB is conveniently located, with more than 4,800 hotelrooms and restaurants in walking distance, and within less than 10minutes of the centre of the old city by a direct subway line, bus, or by taxi.

Exhibition LayoutExhibitors occupying space-only stands arerequired to submit by 27 June 2012 adetailed plan of their stand as well as a 3Dplan to MCI for approval.For island stands, widely open and accessiblestands on four sides are mandatory. For sideto side stands, a wall of max. 2,50 m can bebuilt in between the 2 stands.Maximum constructible height 4,00 m forcorporate sponsors and 3,00 m for otherexhibitors.

Exhibitor RegistrationAll exhibitors must be registered and will receivea badge displaying the exhibiting companyname. Two exhibitor badges are given for thefirst 9 square meters booked and one additionalbadge for each additional 9 square metersbooked. Any additional exhibitors will be chargedan exhibitor registration fee of € 120.An exhibitor registration form will be included inthe exhibitors’ technical manual.All exhibitors need to wear the badge of theCongress.

Amendments to Exhibition LayoutWhile every effort is made to preserve thepublished layout of the exhibition, the Organizersshall be entitled to vary the layout if this is in thegeneral interest of the exhibition.

Manning of StandsExhibitors will be required to ensure that theirstands are manned during the opening hours ofthe exhibition and must not dismantle theirstands before the published closing time.

NoiseExhibitors may not use audible electronic,mechanical apparatus, or open audio systemswhich may be heard outside the exhibitor’sassigned space. The Organizers reserve the right to require anyexhibitor to discontinue any activity that maycause annoyance or interference with others.

Give-aways and Distribution of Printed MaterialsGive-aways and printed material may only bedistributed in the space rented by the exhibitor inthe exhibition hall, in hospitality suites, or atsatellite symposia. No such material may bedistributed in any hotel used by the meeting.Product identification is permitted on give-aways.Contests, lotteries, raffles and any otherincentives are subject to approval by theOrganisers.

Company ProfileA complete listing of all exhibitors, including a100-word entry profile will be featured in thefinal programme handed out onsite to allregistered participants. Companies will have to send their profileby 4 June 2012 at the latest by email [email protected] the profile not have been receivedand confirmed by MCI before the abovementioned deadline it will not be printed inthe final programme.

Security and InsuranceThe Organizers will not be held responsible forany loss or damage to exhibitors’ goods andexhibitors are reminded that they should take outtheir own insurance to cover for their belongings.

Health and Safety at Work RegulationsIt is the responsibility of the exhibitor/sponsor toensure that his contractor, employees, displaysand exhibits comply with the latest legislationregarding Health and Safety at Work regulations.

Cancellation of Exhibition and CongressIt is mutually agreed that in the event of total orpartial cancellation of the Congress due to fire,strike, natural disaster (either threatened or actual),government regulations or causes which wouldprevent its scheduled opening or continuance,this agreement will be terminated immediately,and ESPEN shall determine an equitable basisfor the refund of a portion of the exhibit or otherfees, after due consideration of expenditures andcommitments already made. Under no circum-stances is ESPEN responsible for any exhibitor'sexpenses (such as travel, lodging, or exhibitshipping), or any other incidental or conse-quential damages.

All the speakers of the Satellite Symposia must be registered prior to the Congress by theCompany/Sponsor taking a Symposium slot, and their hotel and trip paid accordingly.All satellite symposia must be held at the Congress Centre during the official time slots offered bythe ESPEN. Companies holding a Satellite Symposium outside the Congress Centre and/or outsidethe official Satellite Symposia slots will be fined with EUR 50,000, and they will not be invited toparticipate at the following Congress.

Satellite Symposia General Guidelines

• Sponsors of Satellite Symposia may select topics and speakers.

• Sponsored Satellite Symposia programmes, handouts and invitations must be submitted

to the Congress Secretariat for approval

• In addition to the sponsorship fee, Sponsors must cover travel, accommodation and onsite costsfor speakers and chairs

• Signposting, additional display or distribution of posters, brochures or any promotional materialoutside the Satellite symposium rooms or outside the company exhibition stands and hospitalitysuite are not allowed

• ESPEN assumes that speakers and chairpersons of the Satellite Symposia will be contacted by thecompanies themselves to notify them of the time and place of sessions, to arrange for theirregistration, travel and accommodation

• ESPEN does not require speakers at the Satellite Symposia to submit abstracts of their lectures asthey will not be published on the Congress Abstract book. Companies can, however, publish theirabstracts for distribution at the entrance of the Satellite Symposium lecture room.

• Times and dates of the Satellite Symposia sessions will be announced on the congress website.The full session programme will be published in the final programme distributed on-site. Anypromotional material to be placed in the Congress Centre will require approval from ESPEN13
