PRESIDENTS REPORT

FEBRUARY

First all please let me congratulate all the members who have been elected to the 2010 Committee; it is great to have you on board.

To those committee members who have returned I say thank you for your past work & time and I am sure that your experience on committee will be of benefit to us all.

It is really great to see a number of new faces standing for the committee, it is perhaps our biggest turnover for a number of years, but I am sure that it will be of great benefit to the club to have some fresh ideas as to how we do things.

The club can take some pride in the fact that currently we have a large number of people wanting to join, so I guess that we must be doing something right.

Obviously the recent positive exposure that the club has received via the articles in Caravan & Motor home magazine has helped. Kathy our new secretary is I think receiving an inquiry just about each week from prospective members.

Keith our rally master has had his head down working very hard to complete this years Rally Programme and you will see a few small changes to the draft programme you received at Lake Conjola.

The Xmas rally to Lake Conjola was one of our best ever & my congratulation to Kathy & Gwenda (who is now a Granma for the first time) on a job very well done.

I guess that that from a value for money point of view membership of the club is one of the best value’s that you could find any where, for your $20 annual fee Laurie opened his purse strings and paid for our Xmas lunch which cost $48 a double in addition to giving all member a free lunch after the State Rally for the work done at Berry

Last year whilst I was acting as the rally master during Les’s absence my biggest work load was members either not putting their names down for rallies or even a bigger problem was members putting their names down and then later not knowing whether they were going or not. This requires a lot of work, time & expense by the rally master chopping a changing bookings accordingly I ask if all members could carefully consider the rallies that they are attending prior to committing.

By the time that you read this report we will have completed our rally to Island View Caravan Park and I expect that most if not all members will have made up their mind as to which is the most suitable venue for the clubs Xmas rally.

I would just like to say that I would like to ask all members when casting their vote to vote for the park has the most to offer the club as a whole not just one aspect of the each parks plus’s or minus’s.

In concluding my first report for this year may I just wish each & every one of you a happy & healthy 2010 and to all of our new members please let me add that I trust that you get as much enjoyment from the club as Julie and I have.

Happy Travelling

Dick Loney

APRIL

As you will see when you get your next edition of the “Snail Trail” (it is a little late Mick & Des have been in Tassie for the last seven weeks) we have two new sponsors, namely Soloman"s Motors of Nowra & Camden Caravans the Windsor agents.

As with all our sponsors a number of our members have made purchases from them and like our other sponsors they are highly recommended by your fellow members as good people to do business with.

We have three new member couples who have been accepted as full members.

John & Mary Cerrone from St Georges Basin

Michael & Mary Brunton from North Nowra

Ron & Gloria Halsey from Woonona

On behalf of all members please let me both welcome you to our club and trust that you will find as much pleasure in as we all do in participating in the various activities.

Whist on new member these three members take us up to thirty four members this gives us one spare space for one of the people on the waiting list to fill.

I won’t report on the State rally as I was not there and you will find reports on it from members who attended else where in the “Snail Trail” but it is suffice to say that some members had a bit of bad luck whilst either going to or coming back.

Marie Costello had a fall on her van steps so requiring an ambulance trip to Coffs Harbour hospital thence an air flight to John Hunter in Newcastle with a further flight to Wollongong Hospital it is pleasing to be able to say she is now home & on the mend.

Babs took a little “Turn” & also had a few day’s stay in Hospital but she is now ok & back fighting fit.

Not to be outdone the two “B’s” Beryl & Barny whilst not being wounded did in fact succeed in putting a tree branch through the van ensuite only a very short distance from home, the van is now being rebuilt by a “Boat Builder” who is an expert in fibreglass repairs.

Our hard working Rally Master Keith (who does not like the title “Master but prefers to be known as co-coordinator) has now booked an extra rally for July at Myleston as all those who went there on the return trip from the State rally remarked on how good it was, but by the time you read this he will have reported it at the meeting

A number of our members are going away on extended trips this year, the Ferchow”s to Holland for four months & thence Adelaide for three months.

The Musgrove’s together with the Rolf’s are doing the Darwin trip.

Whilst Carol Rolf is away our hard working secretary Kathy will take over Carol’s job of Welfare Officer so could you all please note to contact Kathy to report any illnesses.

Happy Travelling

Here we are at Lake Ainsworth C P for the2010 state rally hosted by the Summerland Club. The park is lovely and we all have

good sites right opposite the beach and near the lake. Most of the other clubs have arrived and it was nice to meet up with old friends again. There was a lot of catching up to do.Afternoon tea was in the marquee. Our hosts had allocated each club tables and chairs, ours was right next to the dance floor and perfect for watching the shows. Happy Hour followed during which we watched a line dancing exhibition. Dinner was then served a lovely meal of Quiche or Chicken with Pasta Salad and a bread roll. The evening entertainment by "Dr Bob"who sang and played guitar was excellent! We all danced a lot. Bush poetry was recited during the night byTony Koeliner and he had us all in stitches. We had a really good night and a great start to the rally for sure!

Saturday 13th March

This morning we registered and bought tickets in the various raffles the proceeds going to the Westpac Helicopter Rescue,State Association And Summerland Club. The Official opening was by Ballina Mayor Philip Silver followed by the flag raising

Munro and John and Gayle Connor already installed. Relaxed and enjoyed a sunny day. The Happy Hour in the “tent” with gas heater and BBQ was lovely.

Tuesday: off to The Oaks, Wollondilly Heritage Centre. What a surprise, a great place full of interest and detail of the local settlements. We paid $6 and opened with a Devonshire morning tea followed by a very

interesting lecture and films concerning the building of Warragamba Dam and the flooding of the Burragorang Valley. Afterwards, we toured the exhibits – fascinating place. Our next stop was the Burragorang Lookout where we had a rather chilly BBQ and sandwiches, but the views were worth the effort. Back to camp for another warm, happy hour where Ron entertained us with recitations of his excellent poetry and a little Guitar.

Wednesday: a lay day so we walked to town over the bridge to do some shopping. Happy Hour was enhanced by Camden Caravans providing an excellent BBQ and a great evening was had by all finishing around 9.30pm.

Thursday: Train day at Thirlmere Railway Museum. What a great place – we easily spent a worthwhile couple of hours before travelling to lunch at the Tahmoor Inn – very pleasant. The day finished with a nice warm happy hour.

Friday: another warm and sunny days, then, action for the photo shoot with Caravan and Motor Home. This took some time and we look forward to the “Front Cover” results in about 3 months time. Afterwards, we lit the “Chooffer” [a modified 9.5kg gas bottle with the top cut off] and Myra prepared Pumpkin soup and Damper which was well received.

Saturday: up early for a communal breakfast in the tent, and then off to the Cobbitty markets set up at the rear of the local school. The markets are quite large and very popular, with parking at a premium. No visit to Cobbitty is worthwhile without dropping into the Italian Cognos Winery to reduce the bank balance.

Sunday: an early start home for most of the group. Thanks guys for a very enjoyable week.

RALLY CO-ORDINATOR REPORT FOR GENERAL MEETING 19/4/2010.

Our next rally due to commence on the 21/4 was to be spread over 3 location. Bookings for this rally were very poor to start with and now there have been cancellations for various reasons as a result of which Londonderry and Bendeela have been cancelled. We will be going ahead with Camden where the park owner has gone to a lot of trouble, erecting a marquee in which he has put a BBQ, also providing an hot water urn and supplying tea and coffee. There are now only 5 vans booked at this stage. It would be good if we could get a few more, The date starting at Camden is April 25th and departure May 3rd (8 nights)..

A rally at Berry for the Berry Celtic Festival was suggested and approved by the commiitee. No bookings can be made at Berry and therefore we need to arrive early on Wednesday May 19th, leaving after around Monday 24/5. An attendance list is circulating for any interested member or visitor.

Numbers for Ju ne rally to Port Macquarie (Melalueca CP) and Evans Head (Silver Sands CP) need to be finalised. Please write your name down if interested if you have not already done so.

The members at the last meeting requested interest in having a July rally for the people not touring Queensland during winter. I have booked a week at North Beach CP, Mylestom. Interested members and visitors please write your name on the relevant sheet.

Keith Munro.

Rally Coordinator.

FROM THE EDITOR

Hi Caravaners the Snail Trail as you all know is a little late this time and my apologies for that. There are several reasons for that, we were away in Tassie, the ads were not all ready and some info was not available. There are still some problems but we are getting closer to sorting them out. I want to just remind you that if there is any items to go in the newsletter could you please get them to me as early as possible, or at the latest 10 days before the next general meeting. The reason for this is we are trying out the printing of the newsletter by an outside source and need a little time to get this done.

See you all at the meeting

Happy Travels

Mick

The Mayonnaise Jar When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle, When 24 Hours in a day is not enough, Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee. A professor stood before his philosophy class And had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students, if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.' The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and

poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. 'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - family, children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions – Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else --The small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, You will never have room for the things that are important to you. So... Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play With your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. 'Take care of the golf balls first -- The things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.' One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you asked'. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.' Please share this with other "Golf Balls"

I just did......

RALLY TO BERRY CELTIC FESTIVAL

22nd May 2010

The Rotary Club of Berry Gerringong and the Community of Berry did themselves proud when they staged this fourth Celtic Festival – it was great. No rain all day and being camped in the grounds wewere able to see the pipers from start to finish.

There was only a few of our vanners attended arriving the Wednesday prior to the festival and the new caretakers Tony and Vicky Pye did their best in keeping the amenities clean and Goldie their dog made any and all welcome. Boy have those amenities improved, would you believe the showers have been revamped and there is a coin operated laundry to be built behind the current kiosk, even a new coat of paint. Each night was cold but the days were fine except for one when the rain absolutely fell out of the sky. Our campsite was not too good as we were put up the back where we were at our State Rally, quite damp and cold really. Our camp mates more than made up for that though and the Millers and Curtis’s came for a pancake morning tea on the Friday 21st. Friday night we all went to the Berry Bowling Club for Chinese and with the raffle tickets we bought did very well by winning some meat trays.

Saturday was a very busy day and started out quite unusual with pipe music wafting through the grounds in the early morning and bus loads of pipe bands arriving for the day. It is quite a scene to sit in the grandstand and watch the bands, 10 in all, marching back and forth playing their pipes. There were many stalls of Scottish bric a brac and many dogs of all types and sizes including the beautiful Scottish terriers. It was great having our vans on site because when we got too tired we could go back to the van for a cuppa and a rest. The tossing of the caber was astounding and the Mayor Paul Green was seconded into lifting one of the stones (an imitation one but looking very real) but the contestants lifted the 5 real stones weighing in from 100 kilos up to 165 kilos – whew I feel tired just thinking about it. If that wasn’t enough there were quite a lot of old cars to drool over, a harpist, irish dancers and irish singers.

Now I don’t want you to think we just sat on our derry airs all day and knitted, we used the oval to its best advantage by walking around it at least once a day or was it more? Mick and Des Cooper were able to catch up with their grandchild who was visiting from Queensland and Pauline and Trevor Dunn went for drives into the surrounding countryside. Berry shops got a hit; especially the bakery and Vinnies didn’t miss out either. On Sunday after the festival was over we were able to bring our vans down on to the main camp ground where we stayed until it was time to pack up on the Wednesday. Laurie even won first prize in the footballer’s raffle – 2 hoodies and 2 tickets to a football fundraiser on the Friday night 28th. Laurie and I would like to say a special thanks to Kath and Russell who were kind enough to take our van out to Berry when our own vehicle had gone U.S. due to brake problems. We eventually got it back in time to come home on Wednesday though we all got very wet packing up. Anyway it was a good rally and we look forward to the next one. Cheers.

Gwenda
