Project Summary

The goal of the project is to install a WiMAX base station on Columbia University campus.

The base station will be used for research into wireless networking and teaching activities.

Found outdoor site for antenna and ODU

Obtained FCC license (Henning)

Have several possible rooms for indoor installation; we haven't picked one yet due to missing information about the indoor part (hardware and cable lengths).

WIMXCOLUM: S2.a Prepare site (Due 03/31/10 (late))

So far we picked a site for the outdoor installation and we have few options where we could install the indoor part. However, we haven't started installing the stuff yet because our WiMAX kit is incomplete and we wanted to do a test installation first--before we do any preparations for a permanent installation. We received the antenna, the ODU and the fibre cable, but we're missing the power supply for the outdoor part and the indoor equipment. We've been waiting for the missing parts. At this point we have two options: 1) We can install the antenna and the ODU at this moment but we won't be able to test it and if there are issues with the site we picked, we might not be able to re-do it. 2) We can wait for the rest of the kit, do site tests and if it works, install it permanently.

WIMXCOLUM: S2.b Start software for WORKIT nodes (Due 04/30/10 (late))

WIMXCOLUM: S2.c Begin teaching modules (Due 08/31/10)

Issues

Several piece of the WiMAX installation kit are missing:Power supply for the outdoor partEntire indoor part (base station, servers)

No documentation for the base station (apart from installation guides in the wiki)

We may not have a chance to re-do the installation, therefore we would like to do a temporary installation first and measure signal parameters around campus. However, our WiMAX kit is incomplete and we cannot do that at the moment.
