Transcript of Sponsor Barcamp Transparency
Sponsorship Pack
Who we are? There is three of us – Amanda, Marcus and
Sylwia.During Oxford Apache Barcamp in April
2009 we have put our heads together and
decided to run a similar un-conference
related purely to transparency
issues.
Who we (also) are? There is actually more of us interested
in contributing to the discussion! This is just the initial interest!
When and where? The event is planned for
26th of July.
The venue in Oxford still needs to be confirmed.
What exactly do we want to do?
BarCamp Transparency is being held to discuss open government,
social media ethics and cyber activism.
Increasingly, these are becoming high priority news items, and we expect this event to attract
media attention.
What exactly do we want to do?
As a sponsor of BarCamp Transparency, you will associate your brand
with a landmark event discussing some of the most important topics
of the digital age. You will have the opportunity to engage with
some of the country's best thinkers in technology, government, ethics and activism.
What exactly do we want to do?
Space will be reserved for attendees from your organisation, and we will provide room
for prominent signage. We will also highlight your sponsorship
in printed materials, on our official website, in blog and Twitter posts,
and in announcements on the day.
Why transparency?Because there is a strong need for place to discuss
current and emerging issues of transparency both in the UK, and globally!
Why transparency?Because of the initial response to our idea.
Suggested topics so far:
data and identity control: practical technological solutions, aggressive transparency, offensive privacy: the CCTV use
case,social media ethics,
cyberactivism vs. privacy issues brand transparency in social media
transparency initiatives & digital activism in Central & Eastern Europe
Why barcamp?Because barcamp allows you to contribute anyway
you want! Because barcamp happens off-line, results in new
ideas!Because barcamp happens on-line and stays there!

What exactly is a barcamp?
'BarCamp is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an
open environment.'
'When you come, be prepared to share with barcampers.
When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.‘

What exactly is a barcamp?
The Rules of BarCamp 1
* 1st Rule: You do talk about BarCamp. * 2nd Rule: You do blog about BarCamp.
* 3rd Rule: If you want to present, you must write your topic and name in a presentation
slot. * 4th Rule: Only three word intros.
* 5th Rule: As many presentations at a time as facilities allow for.
What exactly is a barcamp?
The Rules of BarCamp 2
* 6th Rule: No pre-scheduled presentations, no tourists.
* 7th Rule: Presentations will go on as long as they have to or until they run into another
presentation slot. * 8th Rule: If this is your first time at BarCamp,
you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don't really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at
least ask questions and be an interactive participant.)
by Tantek Çelik as parodied from The Rules of Fight Club.

Why not regular conference?
Because barcamp is about common contribution, multidirectional communication between
all attendees (off and on-line), where audience and speaker means the same
– unlike during a conference, where audience is passive –
at barcamp you witness spontaneous conversations.
It’s about networking, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Why sponsors? As we are volunteers, we need your help to
make it possible for discussion to take place.
We also want to know if you are supporting our cause!
Is your company transparent? Do you care about open government?
Do you support open discussion on-line?
Sponsoring Barcamp Transparency is a statement itself!
What do we need support on?
We need your support on: Venue, projectors and wifi,food/drinks, assets (T-shirts, mugs, Moo stickers),goodie bags, stationary.
See for more details our wiki:http://barcamp.org/barcamptransparencyuk
What can we offer in exchange?
Mentioning during the event, many times verbally,
on posters, barcamp branded merchandise,
on-line (on the website, wiki and during the event) and in event generated buzz.
