followers, including members of thepersonal staff, members of the Right-eous Government Committee, Editorof the Spoken Word, and other mem-bers of the staff, and two followersof FATHER DIVINE, motored upto the FATHER DIVINE Peace Mis-sion at Toronto, leaving New Yorkat midnight Friday, arriving at theMission in Toronto in the afternQ.(!hiof the next day.A trailer was attached to the largePierce Arrow car, on which was in-scribed GOD, FATHER DIVINE, inthe front, and International Right-eous Government of the FATHERDIVINE Peace Mission on the rearof the trailer; All along the waySpoken Words were handed to inter-ested individuals and carefully rolledwith a rubber band around them. They were also thrown from the carto people along the way who ap-peared either on the street or in theirhomes. In this manner a great num-ber of people received the messagesof FATHER DIVINE.The group was most hospitably re-

ceived upon arriving at the PeaceMission in Toronto, and the spiritof FATHER was indeed high, withgreat rejoicing by both the visitorsand followers in Torohto. A meet-ing had been announced for Sundayall day, and many people came andheard the testimonies and songs ofpraise, and in the evening a banquetwas served in the mind and spiritof FATHER DIVINE, and two Ubleswere served. Testimonies cameforth, especially, the one from Johnthe Revelator, who told of his mir-acle-healing by contacting FATHERDIVINE 3,000 miles away from thePersonal Body, and how the gratitude

The Incurable Are CURED by the Mental andSpiritual Contact With FATHER DIVINE

Faith in GOD Is Rewarded With Health For One Who CameAcross the Continent on a Dying Bed,A Marvelous Message

    FATHER DIVINE*3 MESSAGE AT,THE BANQUET TABLE,20 W.115th ST., NEW YORK CITY,FRIDAY, AUGUST 28th, 1936,A.O.F.D., 2^0 P.M.From all parts of the world, the

so called incurable, the apparentlydying-, and those without hope, aredaily turning 4o GOD, FATHER DI-VINE, receiving; Life, Health andHappiness. In their last extremitymany of them try to get to NewYork to contact FATHER Person-all, only to find that He will notsee them Personally for a healing, for it is unnecessary and they arehealed without coming into His Per-sonal Presence.Such was the ca^^e with Mr. Ar-

thur H. Brock of Seattle, Washing-ton a few weeks ago. Probably noperson ever ni^de a journey inworse condition than that in whicUMr, Brock crossed the Continent. He was suffering according to me-dical testimony, from cancer of thestomach and liver, a running canceron the lower leg, and a complicationof other diseases. His appearancewas indescribable. He was rushedfrom Seattle to New York by train,.according to his testimony, againstthe advice of the Doctors who saidhe would not live to reach his des-tination. An ambulance met thetrain and took him to FATHER'SN ew York City Headquarters insuch a condition that the ambulancedoctors, accustomed ' as they are tosevere conditions, said they hadnever seen an;ything worse,

Mr. Brock was not permitted tosee FATHER Personally, but ac-commodations were secured in anearby house occupied by a numberof FATHER'S Followers. In a fewweeks' time, though he still hadnot seen FATHER personally, hewas up and about looking thepicture of health, and feeling fine.He had walked to the Kingdom anddown the stairs into the DiningRoom where FATHER Personallyserved the Banquet Table, to givehis testimony of thanks to GOD-FATHER DIVINE. .When he first arrived in NewYork, he had not sat up in over sixmonths, but the following is thetestimony in part, of an eye witnesswho saw his first instant healing:

'Oh FATHER, when he was lyingout there in that ambulance I didnot see any hope at all. I did not seehow You were going 'to reach hiscase ... but You Said i we had theFaith he could get up. When I gotback to the ambulance and told thisBrother 'what You Said FATHER, Ideclare to You I have heard aboutthe Resurrection, but I declare untoyou I SAW it. He got up, and hisbones cracked all over.'The following is part of Mr.

Brock's own testimony:'I wastaken to the Hospital in Seattle, theColumbia Hospital, and I was givenup by the Doctoi's, the best Doctorssaying that a million dollars couldnot save me. Then I was 'taken tothe United States Marine Hospitalwhere there are supposed to benu^ny good Doctors, They told tlie

Tuesday, September 8th, 1936. The "SPOKEN WOKD" Pftge 5and He saw it after it was, andthese different expressions of itwere, put forth into outer expres-sion. Then and there He could ob-serve it according to the Scripture, and could see it was QOOD andVERY GOOD. Everything by expres-sion that GOD Created from the In-visible Realm, from the mental andthe psychic planes, through His con-descension to bring them into outerexpression. He Declared by the vis-ible-ization of these things, theywere good and very good. They weregood because they had been madefrom the Mental and SpiritualReahnof GOD'S Infinitenesa. There-fore they were expressions of apsychological point for considera-tion, but they could not be consid-ered by the conscious mentality sav-ing as they were brought into ma-teriality and into outer expression. But through the condescension ofGOD, in Love and Mercy He broughtthe invisible things from the In-visible realm to the visible plane, that mankind might observe and seethe tangible-ization of those psychic, psychological things, that THEYmight be more psychic and psy-chological than they really are, andthan they have been. But throughthe ignorance of the Law of theSpirit, and the psychic or psycho-logical law, they nave gone into ma-terialism so far, they think we mustperform the Acts of the Works ofGOD merely by material actions andperformances, etc.THE SPIRIT OFHIS PRESENCEBy the Spirit of My Presence withM^ Understanding, I will call hu-manity's attention by actuality, byputting forth My Rules and Regu-lations into expression from a psy-chological point of view on the . ma-terial plane, that manldnd might ob-

    * serve them and realize, that whichwas invisible and psychological, thatvery identical expression which wasinvisible and psychological^ it canand it actually IS visible and mater-ial,materially manifested.

Therefore I Say, that which weare now enjoying, that which we arenow observing, we are observingthese things from the psychic andfrom the spiritual planes, but it wasessential for humanity that theymight come from the psychic andfrom the Spiritual, the Invisible,^^

to the visible, that we might enjoythem and cause them to be madereal, tangible and practical, althoughthey were psychological.ESSE^T1AL TOUNDERSTANDBecause of the practicality ofthese things and the materialization

of them, it does not prohibit themfrom being psychological as such, because they are materialized. Tothose who are Spiritual, all thingsare Spiritual; to those who are na^tural all things arc natuial. There-fore you can obseye things accord-ing to the functioning of your con-scious mentality and according tothe standard in which you are think-ing, whether you are thinking fromthe psychic, or mental, or Spiritualplane, or whether you are merelythinking from the material realm.

Therefoi^e it is essential to under-stand the mystery. But as you couldnot understand it so scientifically Iaftn callin|r your attention to themystery, and the significance of Myrefusing to see the Brother Person-ally, that I might prove and showto the world of criticism, My Maj-esty, Dominion and Authority, andlet them know conclusively once andforever, 'It is not by power nor bymight, but by My Spirit Says TheLord.* Oh it' is indeed Wonderful!GOD in the midst of you is mightyto save. When I Say, 'Here you areand there 1 am; there I sit andhere you stand,' GOD through Hiscondescension with Love, and Mercyand Compassion Mentally, is actual-ly transmitting Himself to the child-ren of men, transmitting Himselfto them that they itiight be likeHim. Being like Him, they will bqpartakers of His Nature, His Char-acteristics, and they will produce itand bring the Heaven into outerexpression and into materialization.SPIRITUALIZINGXHE BODYYou are being Spiritualized, and 'you are materiahzing theSpirit. Isn't that Wonderful! ISpeak into actuality the MATER-IALIZATION of HEALTH andHAPPINKSS. The MATERIALI-ZATION of HEALTH and HAPPI-NESS has come forth into expres-sion As GOD Said in the Beginning,'Let dry land appear,* I Say( 'LetPEACE, JOY, HEALTH and HAP-

PINESS be materialized and person-ified and become to be a LivingPresence expressly.' Now isn't thatWonderful! You are fortunate to bein this Presence, where LIFE, andHEALTH, and HAPPINESS, and allof these Qualities are materialize-able as I Speak them into actuality. When GOD Said to the Earth thatwas void and without form,'Letdry land appear,' it appeared andcame into observation. GOp isSpeaking into visible-ization, andinto tangible-ization, and into per-sonification, every good ajxd desir-able expression, that mankind mightobserve GOD'S ACTUAL PRES-ENCE. Now isn't that Wonderful! The visible-ization of that whichwas psychic, and that which wasmental, and that which was Spirit-ual, GOD will and GOD is tang-ible-izing or tangibleating which-ever; materializing and personifyingthrough reinc^-rnation, that whichwas merely mental and that whichwas merely Spiritual.PERSONIJICATioN OB^GOD MAN'S REDEMPTION

'The belief in the Personified GOD 'is the Redemption of your body aswell as your soul.' Because thisBrother believed in the Personifica-tion of GOD as I Stand, and rec-ognized the Presence of GOD in the 'likeness of man, GOD brought forththe personified expression and like-ness of Himself, man; in His OwnImage and Likeness expressly. Therefore you can observe it Marvelnot at these things, for as I HAVEdone and AM doing. I have not yethardly begun, and I shall continuethroughout all Eternity. My Activ-ities Professionally, Spiritually, So-cially and otherwise, shall have noend. Oh it is a privilege to realizeit! But remember, when these unfold-

ments take place so vividly, mortali-ty would desire to criticize it. Mor-tality would desire to measure GODwith the measure of a man. But re-member, the Condescension ofCHRIST among the children of men ^was that He did descend to the low-est parts of the Earth as an ab-stract expression of the condescen-sion of His Infiniteness, to Love,Mercy and Compassion for thosethat were living in the lowly stateof expression. It is indeed Wonder-ful!

Pa:e 6 The ''SPOKEN WORD" Tuesday, September 8th, 1936.When JESUS according to the

Scripture, better known as CHRISTby the Resurrection, descended to'the other place* Bibhcally speak-ing, it was an outward expressionin the Biblical quotation, of descend-ing to 'the other place,' to showmankind the depths of humility andthe lowliness of JESUS to descendto the lowest places to reach theconditions of the millions that werefunctioning in the lowly state of ex-pression. 'He took upon Himself/Said He. 'our infirmities, and bareour diseases/ Therefore through Hiscondescension He haa descended, isn't that Wonderful! 'And The LORDHIMSELF shall descend fromHeaven!' It did not say, 'He shallASCEND,' but 'The LORD Himselfshall descend from Heaven.* Now-^ isn't that Wonderful!THE CONDESCENSIONOF GODThp condescension of GOD to thechildren of men Mentally, and thecondescendence of GOD,GOD des-cending from the lofty state of ex-pression to the state of humility.in the (Meekness of His Spirit Hehas descended. His condescensionwas to reach your condition, reachyou on the plane wherein you arefunctioning,to be as you are actu-

ally. In the language of your ac-. tions, and emotions, and expressions, and your deeds. GOD Himselfthrough His condescension is Speak-ing. Isn't !:hat Wonderful! X Say, inthe actions of the language you arespeakting actually. He through Hiscondescension now is Speaking in -the actuated language you are

. speaking, for 'Actions speak louderthan words,' and deeds also do thesame. I am Speaking in your Ian-/guage in actions, and emotions, andexpressions, that you might under-stand Me while I am Speaking. Butyet with this, X will not furtherdescend in expressions of using ma-terial methods and material reme-dies, for this would be an expres-sion and this would be an action ofLow-rating the Standard of thePrinciples of CHRIST your Saviour.Isn't that Wonderful! But to descendto the plane wherein you stand, yeaeven in your expressions commonly

' known a^ sin, would be more justi-fiable for GOD to descend than thatwhich is commonly known as Right-eousness, in the actuated expression

of those who call themselves Reli-gious. Isn't that Wonderful!GOD S WAYS HIGHERTHAN MAN'STo take upon Myself the infirmat-

ies of the so-called Followers whocall themselves Religious-and Divin-ely inspired, to try to seek honorby doin^ Komettiin^ Personally "r^vusing material methods and ma-terial remedies, etc., and makingphysical efforts to reach the condi-tions of the afflicted, such would bedetrimental because that would below-rating the Standard of GOD'SPrihciple and His especial Missionand Calling. But to low-rate theStandard of His Personal Presence. My condescension to come in yourmidst and to act as you do, suchwould be justified, therefore it isjustifiable. Isn't that Wonderful!

GOD in the midst of you is Mightyto Save. There are questions at times, con-

cerning Me in My different quota-tions. If you would stop to considerthe mystery of the Scripture, if ISpeak not the words that are ex-actly written according to the quo-tations, they are the words andthe records of the Apostles andProphets, and other Writers, bear-ing witness by inspiration, ofwhat I Said. Nevertheless, wh'bn ICome and Speak Myself I maySpeak My Own Version, for GODis HiS' Own Interpreter. It is in-deed Wonderful! Why should I goby what Peter, James and Johnsaid? That is their version, and thesame as among the many of us to-day, they may not have heard Medistinctly. Now isn't that Wonder-ful! If they heard Me distinctly, their versions may have changed it,the same as there are those who'claim to be My Representatives insome parts of the Country, and atsome places no doubt in thisCountry and in other Countries, whowill take My Messages, the directWords I have Spoken, and read themand try to put their interpretationon them. But it has long been de-clared by inspiration, and I willverify the same this afternoon, 'GODis His Own Interpreter, and He willmake it plain.*WHATEVER GOD SAYSIS LAWWlien anything is Spoken from

. the Spirit of the ACTUAL Presenceof GOD, how dare mortality to tryto put their version and revise what-GOD is actually telling them? Isn'tthat Wonderful! When you stop toconsider, then and there you willrealize the significance of the rec-ognition of the tangible-ated andPersonified PRESENCE of GOD, forunless you recognize the tangible-ated and the Personified Presence ofGOD, you will declare at times, thatwhich is Said and that which isDone is to be interpreted by someother one. But when you reallyknow GOD, whatsoever GOD Saysis LAW. Now aren't you glad!Upon this you can stand withVictory wheresoever you go, for ithas long since been said, 'The Sonsof Righteousness shall rise withhealing in their wings.' Just thinkof it! 'GOD is His Own Interpreter, and He 'will make it plain.' ThroughMy condescension at times, I maySpeak and Act with, the children ofmen, and may Speak and Act on ac-

' cord with them. Nevertheless;- ' GODis His Own Interpret:?T, and He willmake it plain.' My Mission^ MyWork, and My Callings as it may betermed, My actual Duty to andwith the children of men, is to im-part My Life, and My Spirit, and MyMind to them, that they might beMy expression.s that they might bethe manifestors as well as witnessesfor Me. Isn't that Wonderful-NO PHYSICAL EFFORTNECESSARY IN HEALINGTHE INCURABLEThen I Say, I refuse to make a

physical effort to help you. That is,if your complaint is an^ailment suchas an affliction that is incurable. Why should I make a physical ef-fort to help you, when the otherphysical physicians could not? Butas you recognize the' PersonifiedGOD, GOD can and wijl recognizeyour body as well as your soul. Therecognition of the PERSONIFICA-TION of GOD is the Redemption ofy6ur body as well as

    ^your soul.

Therefore by Faith you have beenmade whole. Oh it is a privilege torealize it! Now My Life, My Name, and the recognition and the Faithin Me, can and will be the samefrom every angle and' in every ex-pression necessary, for the applica-tion of My Presence and the recog-

PREAMBI^"PEACE TO ALL! We, the Inter-racial, Inter-national, Inter-religious, Interdenominational, andNon-partisan Co-workers of FATHER DIVIiSfE'SPEACE MISSION and its Department of Right-eous Govepiment, greet all mankind with PEACE.In the Light of this New Day and Dispensationin which we^ are now ^ living since the advent ofFATHER DIVINE^Whom twenty-two million haverecognized as their Saviour cojjpe to Earth againin Bodily Form,we are advocating RIGHTEOUS-NESS, JUSTICE and Truth in every walk oflife. Therefore we request the cooperation of allGovernments in LEGALIZING these QUALITIES,and the participation of all right-thinking peoplein Universalizing a RIGHTEOUS GOVERNMENT."

'*For this cause we are assembled in a greatInternational Righteous Government Convention inNew York City these three days, the Tenth, Elev-enth, and Twelfth of January, 1&36, A.D.F.D., withDelegates from many different Countries andStates. The Righteous Government Department ofFATHER DIVINE'S Peace Mission Movement hasadopted a Platform embodying some of the moreimportant issues of its Righteous Stand. ThisPlatform which has been verified and endorsedby FATHER DIVINE with His Personal signature,we are privileged to present to you as follows:"

    ^"In presenting RIGHTEOUS GOVERNMENT to

the world at large, nothing more fLtting of far-reaching could be said than what has already beenSaid by Him Who. is the Founder of it, Who hasalready introduced it to every field of life by es-tablishing it in the lives of twenty-two millionFollowers living in practically every CivilizedCountry on Earth. A few of His Personal Wordson the subject, as He addressed thousands of HisFollowers recently in New York City, were asfollows:

"it has been through the Ages, that Religionand the Religious Teaching have caused mento be submissive, meek and obedient if theywere Religious, but obedient to wickedness, obedient to dishonesty, obedient to unrighteous-ness. Therefore it profited you nothing to be Re-ligious and obedient. What profit would it be to

us to-day to bring you into the Spirit and the ac-tion of Righteousness, unless we have a Right-eous Government? That is why there are somany of the different individuals that have re-sorted to violence, and refused to accept of theTeaching of Religion.''. -"They have striven to keep the CHRIST from

the Political world. Through the different Reli-gions you have been taught that Religion andPolitics will not mix, but I am privileged to Say,without the true concept of CHRIST and the rec-ognition of HIS PRESENCE among the Politicisuis, the world will continue to be filled with corrup-ition, and it is a matter of impossibility to re-ceive your deliverance saving through this greatConversion,""RIGHTEOUSNESS, TRUTH and JUSTICEshall become to be a Living Reality, and shallbe established universally through Legality, andevery nation, language, tongue, and people shallaccept it as, the Fundamental."*We believe in these Words because we are

among the miliidns that have already been im-pregnated with tliese Qualities by FATHER DI-UnSTE. Through the New Dist)ensatioh of GOD onEarth in Bodily Form, we already have a RIGHT-EOUS GOVERNMENT, for RIGHTEOUSlStESS,JUSTICE arid TRUTH are now Reigning in uswhere unrighteousness, injustice, arid untruth onceheld sWay. Therefore we s^t forth some of thePrinciples of Righteous GSovemment aireeldy es-tablished in our midst, and some of the issues in-volved, that they may be legalized univers^liy,"

    * * *PRINCiPLES

"That the whole human rice is essientially one,and '*Of one Blood GOD formed all nations," hasbeen attested both by Scripture arid by Science. The Righteous Government of FATilER DiVlNE'SPeace Mission stands for and actiially producessuch an organization of Society. It is founded uponthe recognition of the Brotherhood of Man arid theFatherhood of GOD. Its Watchword is PEACE, andit actually establishes PEACE among ithe nationsby eradicating prejudice, segregatioii, arid divisionfrom among the people arid promoting tlie wel-fare of every livinjc creature. 'This Movement stands for and demands anEQUAL OPPORTUNITY for every individual with-out regard to race, creed or color, in accordancewith the declaration made in the Constitution ofthe United States, that all men are created equalIt stands for the Life and Teaching of JESUS theCHRIST exactly as He lived it/'We realize that the division of Society into Po-litical Nations has led through .the Ages, to con-tmuous warfare and widespread poverty and dis-tress. Therefore we do not identify ourselves withany Nation or people, but we do endorse and sup-port the Constitution of .the United States as theFoundation for all Governments to build upon Un-der the Constitution of the United States all mencan worship GOD according to the dictates oftheir own conscience, and are guaranteed the rightto individual liberty. This has been indicated byFATHER DIVINE as a Divinely established Orderfor the coming of the Kingdom of GOD on Earth/'On every hand however, tendencies can be seenthat are undermining the individual Uberty andequal rights guaranteed by the Constitution They -are creeping, in behind prejudicial and discrimin-atory Laws and Ordinances; through the New DealLegislation, and through such Laws that deprivethe individual of the right to sell his goods forhttle or nothing if he chooses; through the Com^pulsory Insurance Laws: the intimidation of Work-ers by the Labor Unions; the Laws imposing Com-pulsory Medical Treatment, and the like. Concern-ing the preservation of the Constitution from thesereactionary tendencies, FATHER has recently Said:'"There is an issue today observed, .that hadnot been observed so vividly as it is now ....Laws and by-^laws of practically every kind have

^arisen through the prejudiced representatives ofPontics among the Politicians that 'are actuallyundermining the Constitution of our greatCountry. Just think of Laws that are not ac-cording to the "Constitution, and brought aboutUNDER the Constitution, which are in completeviolation of the Constitution. If GOD would al-low it to continue, they would eventually under-mine the Constitution completely, and .the Gov-ernment of our Civilization would be a failure/'^On these issues we stand uncompromisingly forthe rights of the common people, and FATHER'SActivities continue silently and unceasingly to eradi-cate such autocracy. Much of it has already beenelimmated. He is Speaking continually in Deedsand in Actions more than in words, but at various'times He vividly stresses these issues to theMasses, in Words. Concerning .the Compulsory In-surance issue, He has Spoken emphatically. Whenone of His Followers and her bondsman, operat-ing a small industry, asked Father the question,"Kust we take out Compensation Insurance afour of us in the Shop will have to sign up aa

partners; if we do not they will not give uslicenses," FATHER Rephed:'''We will have what we want to have justthe same, if we have to get it just the same asthe bootleggers and moonshiners do. If they do

not give us the right ito do what is right with-out Compensation Insurances, we will BREAKthe LAW. if they do not allow us to have li-censes by the Law without taking out insur-ances, we will run our industries without theLaw, we will break the Law and do it anyhowwithout any licensesthey just as well to knowwe will not take out any insurance compensa-tions."

AGAINST OUR RELIGIOUS BELIF*lt is not' justifiable to try to force someoneagainst their Religious belief, and our Religious

belief is that we should not take out insurances, and we wiU not do' it. We are wilUng to get.licenses as required by law for anything thatis necessary to have licenses for, in a legal way,for the maintenance of the City Government, but in regard to insurance compensations andsuch as that, we will not tolerate it, for itcauses men to mistrust GOD, and is not accord-ing to our Teaching, and is in violation to ourReligious belief. For thi^ cause we take astand in opposition to such, but we will get li-censes if they choose to give us licenses accord-ing to the regulation of the law ... for themaintenance of the City Government, and up-keepof the other necessities . . . Official duties, etc.,for the City, but not insurances to mistrust GODand visualize disappointments, failures, accidents, and disasters. As far as taking out insurances,we win not tolerate it, and I would tell thePRESIDENT so.'*'On another occasion, when the question of Com-

pulsory Medical Treatment was brought to anopen issue by the Authorities, FATHER addressedHis.Audience thus:'"According to the Law of our State in whichwe are now livuig, it is a misdemeanor for amother or a parent of children under the age

of sixteen, not to have a physician, when thecases have been diagnosed as essential for aphysical examination and for a physical opera-tion. But I put forth a Commandment as fora legal proceeding, to go in the Statute Bookparallel with that which for parents sets uptheir obligation, and a penalty for not having aphysician.*'"W for any cause My Spirit and My Mind, and My Impersonal Presence, cannot reach your

afflicted or sick children or -those that are con-cerned, and heal them, you can have a physicianand SHOULD have one. But remember, 'thephysicians must guarantee the cure and guar-antee the life and health of the individual . . .This is a Law withhz a Law, and I put it forth

Tuesday, September 8t:h, 1936. aiie "SPOKEN WORO" Page 11ECONOMIO

The RIGHTEOUS GOVERNMENT DEPART-MENT of FATHER DIVINE'S PEACE MISSION,bases its Plan for universalizing prosperity upon theFundamental Principle Personified in FATHER DI-VINE, that has made millions prosperous. It hastaken His Followers off the Rehef and made themindependent, thus saving the Government millions. Not one of His True Followers would accept ofRelief in any form, or even so much as go oh theRelief Rolls in order to get a job. We demandthe abandonment of the Government regulationrequiring the people of America to declare them-selves destitute and go on the Relief Rolls, in or-der to get jobs.'

'The DIVINE PLAN calls for EQUAL DISTRI-BUTION OF OPPORTUNITY, and giving everyman a chance to be mdependent, but not &o muchcharity. In the experience of millions who haveaccepted FATHER DIVINE, all economic and un-employment problems have been solved, and theyare actually enjoying the ideal conditions othersare ' striving for. He has made it possible forthose who are cooperative and meek, especially inthis Country, to live well -on five dollars a weekor less. He has further suppUed them with part-time jobs at least, to earn an independent living, while causing them to desire to serve their fellow-men in ^ all their working hours. Speaking of HisPersonal Activities in New York, FATHER Said:

"I have been feeding the unemployed in anumber around about from two thousand fivehundred to three thousand a day, but this isnot My great Aim in Life. This is not thegreatest expression. The great expression ac-cording to My Version, is to help you to be IN-DEPENDENT. I will cut out so much feedingof the unemployed as I have been. I haveopened ways and means whereby you can getjobs, whereby you can be independent, self-sup-porting and self-respecting. That is what I amdesiring to see you all do and be.''

"Therefore I have made the way possible forthe last three years or more, in the City of NewYork and elsewhere, that you might be able toget by, at from four to five dollars a week andbe independent If you come here, or go anyplace and get a meal for ten or fifteen oents, you do not have to feel as a beggar. You canfeel INDEPENDENT, for that is the priceorthose are the prices for the meals in all of ourConnections, not only here in New York Citybut all the way across the Country, in all of theplaces^fifteen cents is the maximum fee ^^ for ameal. I wish to further announce . , . hereafterour Barber Shops \yill not charge but Ten centsfor a hair cut for men, and Five cents for ashave . . . We shall make similar cuts in thedress shops in proportion, and in the grocerystores, and other expressions of our Industries."'Naturally the cost of these facilities is greater

    than the income from them, and no man couldcontinue indefinitely to carry them on, but as theyare the Gift of GOD to mankind they are amplyprovided for. FATHER DIVINE takes no collec-tions, accepts no donations or financial supportwhatsoever, and has never been know to do so.On the contrary, He is constantly giving;

^Another of His Personal Activities for the ben-efit of the Masses has been a free EmploymentAgency. After operating His Own Private Agen-cy free for many years, He recently opened up aPublic Agency to get at the intolerable conditionsin the Employment field.'

'Regarding these conditions, He recently Spokeas follows:'

'^I call your attention to an hicident just hap-pening now here in your midst which I am in,and that is thisI took over and opened up*The Busy Bee Employment Agency.* The Lawhas been for years that the employees and theemployers are supposed to pay ten percent tothe Agency . . . but I learned since I have beenin it that the employers will not pay a penny. They have been forcing the employees to paytheir ten percent and the employers not payinganything. It is indeed Wonderful! But I v^rillnot have it that way, longer.""That is one of the outrages that has been

manifested or concealed here . . . where theywould force the employees to pay their fees, but would not force the employers who havemillions, to pay a fee. Many of them did nothave bread to eat, neither a place to sleep, seeking work to be honest, competent and true, and yet if they got a chance to get a position, they could not have it unless they paid theirfees, yet the millionaire that was hiring themas the employer, they would not charge him apenny. It is indeed Wonderful I"

**In every little simple expression, you cansee the outward expression of the oppression ofthose who are as the hireling and the father-less, the poor and the needy, the laboring classof people. * It is indeed Wonderful! As I Saidsome time ago, when I am participating withMy Comi*ades, the Commimists, whether theyknow it or not I know they are fulfilling theScriptures more than many of the Preachersand those that are called Religious ... I vdliget you positions if you are competent. If youhave good references I will get you POSI-TIONS, FREE of CHARGE. I will l^t you goFREEthe employeebut the employers canpay their fee."'Following FATHER'S Example, others of FA-THER'S Movement endeavored to open licensed

Employment Agencies and cooperate in the samework of helping the Masses, but the Commissionersshowed every evidence of a desire to uphold andperpetuate the old system of squeezing small sumsout of the poor and letting the employers go free

not what it is, if It would be a thousand dol-lars, if you find out that it is counterfeit, thiscounterfeit expression should be destroyed. Ifsomeone else happens to pas^ a counterfeit dol-lar on you, destroy it immediately. If you findthat it is a counterfeit dollar and you are con-vinced that it is a counterfeit, you should de-stroy it. for it is false, therefore you shoulddestroy the false."

    * * 'It is not claimed that the recommendation con-

tained in ithis Platform will solve every economicproblem of the world at large, but the Funda-meatal Principle WILL. In FATHER DIVINE isfoimd the solution of every prolSlem tiiat mayarise. Neither is it claimed that Legislation alonecan solve the problem, but as we have alreadystated, RIGHTEOUSNESS, JUSTICE "and TRUTHmust be Legalized, and all unrighteousness; in-justice and imtruth, otitlawed.'

'The Principles advocated are just a few of thosethat FATHER DIVINE has established in the livesof miliions. They have changed imderworld char-acters into upright citizens. They have chsmgeddishonesty, and good-for-nothingness into hon-esty, competence and Truth; making millionsprosperous and independent of Relief, caus-ing them to return stolen goods and pay old billsthey never intended to pay. Thus FATHER hassaved the Government, Public Utilities Companies,Department Stores, and (Business as a whole, mil-Ions of dollars annually, and caused millions toseek Justice (through Righteousness, when theymight have sought it in unrighteousness, throughforce of arms."

Why Neither Capitalism, Communism Nor Fascism Will Work in the United StatesBy Roy Q. Owens

Capital, according to dictionarydefinition, is ''V^ealth employed inor available for production. Resourcesor advantages. Property. . . . Cap-italism, by the same authority is"concentrated capital as power.'* Asystem favoring its concentration.Broadly speaking two systems of

capitalism prevail in the world, twosystems by which capital, resourcesand property are concentrated aspower. Both ^sterns are based onownership. Both systems aim to dis-tribute production by means ofwages. One is the theory of privateownership and private control of thepower of wealth and the payment ofwages as in the United States, Eng-land, Germany, Italy etc. The otheris the theory of public ownership, state ownership and state contrtilor what is called communism andState payment of wages as in Rus-sian. Both systems are based uponthe ownership of capital, resourcesand property as power. The differ-ence between the two systems is nota difference in theory of the powerof concentrated capital but a dif-ference in the purposes and motiveswhich animate those few personswho propose to govern and controlthe people, their wages, and the useof property and resources ofwealth. Both "private owner* and'communistic" capitalism have theirorigin in scarcity rather than a-bundance. Both private ownershipand communism seek equitably orotherwise to employ workers in pro-ductive enterprise and then thru themedium of wages paid for work, both seek to divide or apportion thegoods produced. Both systems pro-pound the ancient economic religiousphilosophy that "the laborer isworthy of his hire'* and its correla-tive scripture "no work no eat." Con_firmed in the theories of limitation, scarcity, that production either can-not or should not be hicreased suf-ficiently to provide abundantly forevery human being, the purposeand motive' of private ownership ofcapital wealth is first to provide aplentiful or - even a superfluous af-fluence for the owning class andsecond to persuade the great masski Jii peoplei tQ foe satisfied or at

least content with whatever theoviTiing class may see fit to dole outto them in the form or wages, sa-laries or charity. The theory of communism, spring-

ing from the same belief in limita-tion or scarcity, proposes to abolishprivate ownership in favor of stateownership, to operate all propertyand resources and to divide the totalproductions of goods equally amongthe workers. Communism admitsscarcity as does private ownershipbut while private ownership says ofpoverty that it cannot be abolishedhut only assuaged, that it is a nec-essary evil and quotes erroneously"the poor ye have always with you,"communism seeks to abolish toothextreme poverty on the one hand andextreme affluence on the other Toytaking the total productions and di-viding them equally so that allworkers may share and share alike. The probabilities are that no one,not even the greatest advocates ofprivate ownership, will say thatCommunism does not more nearlyapproach the demands of the goldenrule than have the' practices of pri-vate Capitalism.

Certainly the whole world iswatching the Russian experimentwith increasing interest and despitethe smoke of prejudice' ajid emo-tionalism everyone is being com-pelled to at least admit that thepresent "ownership" depression is agood deal less depressing to theRussian people ithan is the privateownership depression on the people

' of the privately owned UnitedStates. But wha^t of Fascism? In fascist

Italy and \ in Germany we havesimply private ownership, nothingelse. We call it fascism. What ex-actly is fascism? Fascism is onlyprivate ownership in desperatestraits seeking to retain its powerof concentrated wealth by force andviolence. And what again is Com-munism? Communism is state owner-ship in which elected officials con-trol the power of the concentratedwealth of a nation.

If we assume that, by chancegood fortune and a kind providence,a communistic state is blessed withchoosing a '*good" administrationand If wet assume that l>y similiar

chance a "good" private owner isin control of the wealth of a nationthen the practical differences be-ween these two forms of capitalismare of little consequence. To thepeople so governed little would re-main to be desired. There would' befew indeed who would object to pri-.vate owners attaining plenty pro-viding the objectors themselves hadplenty. There would be few capital-ists who would object to the com-munistic form providing they them-selves had plenty. Two dogs withone bone will argue .and fight forits posession and enjoyment. Twodogs and plenty of bones and theargument ceases. It is the righteoushuman desire for plenty that risesup in every individual sooner orlater, to object to any system ofgovernment whose foundation stoneis scarcity, the necessity for divi-sion. It is a natural and righteoushuman desire for unlimited abimdancethat will overturn and overturn andoverturn until that form of govern-ment comes forth whose right it is torule. Man demands abundance, hedemands the promised land, he willnot be satisfied with less, he can-not be satisfied with scarcity and hewill not rest until that abundance isachieved.Very little is to be gained by be-

coming anti-capitalistic, anti-com-munistic, anti-fascist or anti anyother form of ownership or govern-ment. We cannot build automobilesby being anti-horse nor can we buildheaven by being antithe otherplace only by becoming pro-truth, pro-science, pro-universalhealth, prosperity and happinessmay we usher in the true freedom, and government of righteousness, justice and truth.

It is history that private owner-ship, capitalism with its system oflimited wages, always deprives greatnumbers of their right to satisfac-tion and it is equally true that privateowners live in a constant fear and

    - worry over the possibility of los-ing what they claim to own. Privateownership does not confer freedomUpon either the master or the serv-ant nor upon the employer nor uponthe eimiployed. Private capitalistsmust free their slaves in order to

Tuesday, Septednber 8th, 1936. The "8JPOKE1N WORiy Pa^e %5themselves be free. But privateovsoiership objects to change. It doesnot relish the thought, of beingdumped from its uncomfortable fry-ing pan into a fire that may bevorse. Private owners have not yetseen a better way than capitalism. When they do they will take thebetter way. They will not fight achange when the proponents ofchange find themselves inspired tooffer something better than privatecapitalism. State capitalism or com-munism offers something that to theimderdog seems better but commun-ism in order to accomplish its pro-mise to the masses frankly proposesto break in and steal all that theprivate owner possesses without giv-ing him anything better In return.Communism seeks to rob the robberbarons.Communism says that when itsown thieving has been accomplish-

ed, when the rich man has been de-spoiled, then it will face the otherway around and so manage the con-fiscated wealth as to bring aboutan economic condition that is fairand just to all concerned.Communism proposes that the

popular person or persons whom thepeople elect to manage the proper-ty of the state will somehow bemore just and honest than privateowners. Communism proposes toshare the spoils of victory. Com-munism proposes the equal divisionof limited supply. It does not con-template the possibilities of multi-plication, neither do the advocatesof private ownership. If either theadvocates of communism' or fascismunderstood multiplication, if they-knew the possibilities of multiplyingand replenishing the earth so thatnot even a rich man need be depriv-ed of any desirable thing, there wouldby violence or by taxation, therewould be no conflict in the worldtoday. The conflict between the rich anjlthe poor, between the fear of pov-erty and the desire for abundanceas it now exists in the minds of richand poor alike, the lust for capital-istic power by either ownership orby election and the bloody wars ofcompetition will give way to thehumming rythm of cooperation whenmen adopt the laws of science andsimple arithmetic instead of political

opinion in the field of economicsand thus permit the unrestrictedmultiplication of wealth to take theplace of scarcity aind division.

In Russia at least for the present, there is plenty of work for everyable bodied person and need for ailthat they by their combined effortscan produce. There is no reason whythe Russian people should not pro-gress rapidly under the communisticform of capitalism and governmentwhich they have chosen. Equal pro-gress might have been made in thatundeveloped country had they chosento adopt the American form of pri-vate ownership. So long as there iswork for everyone and ownershipeither private or pubUc is mindedto pay wages to its workers anyform of capitalism is at least work-able and more or less satisfying toall the people. Here in the UnitedStates we must meet another condi-tion. The case is different. We do^ot have work for all our people.Whether or not we are minded to doso we cannot pay wages to all theworkers because we cannot givethem employment. Here we havedeveloped a highly efficient powerand machine 'production capacitywhich precludes the possibility ofeither full time employment or fulltime wages to all the workers. Evenif capital under private ownershipor under communism in the UnitedStates should prosper to pay topwages to those it could employ, therewould be a rapidly increasing num-ber of people to whom capital couldnot supply either jobs or wages. No work, no eat may be a goodenough philosophy for the capitalistto propound when there is work tobe done. "To each man as nearly aspossible the full product, of his toil"was the peak of a just philosophywhen Abraham Lincoln spoke thosewords, but men of science disregardboth capitalism and philosophy.Science steps forth countermandingthe curse "that man shall eat in thesweat "Of his brow" and confirms theperc
