In the third consecutive year the club has sponsored the event, it proved to be the best tournament to date. 12 teams came out to Lusk Field House on Sunday, March 8, which saw an increase in participation by 100 percent. The European Handball Tournament is a charity event where all proceeds go to Breat Cancer Awareness. Students battled with the hopes of coming home with the elusive championship pinnie. There were also raffle prizes to go along with the pizza and drinks, which was provided by Marks Pizzeria. Ultimately Rack Attack and The Bean Team advanced to the championship and being one step closer to earning the championship pinnie. The game ended up being an instant classic as it headed into overtime with Rack Attack ending up the winners. All in all, just over $500 dollars were raised for a great cause.

April 17th 2015 14 teams took to the 281 Fields to play in the 6th annual Lose the Shoes Tournament. For the first time in 3 years, the weather was finally in the favor of the Club for the event was allowed to be held outside. Students and faculty alike competed barefoot for three hours on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. With Men’s Elite, Women’s Elite, and Co-rec teams all in action there never was a dull moment all day.

All proceeds for the event went to a group called GrassRoot Soccer. Started by Ethan Zohan back in 2003, the groups goal is to kick HIV/AIDs out of Africa by spreading awareness through the game of soccer. Lose the Shoes was brought to Cortland 6 years ago and the club has carried on the tradition ever since.

Thanks to donated raffle prizes by NYC FC, the YES Network, and local business the event was an even greater success. Students lined up to win tickets to the newest MLS team and almost every participant walked out with a prize of some sort.

The club was able to raise just over $2,000 dollars for Grassroot Soccer in our most successful event every year.
