Dedication

To the good ship John Rogers,

which has carried passengers over the

calm and stormy seas for many years,

and which has— through disappoint-

ment, defeat, victory and joy — re-

sounded with the songs and shouts of

its many hundreds of passengers, we,

the Treasure Chest Staff, dedicate

this 1950 Treasure Chest.

PRINCIPAL J. L PURDY

This is your book of memories. The activities chronicled and

pictured here will be remembered all your lives. Most important to

you as you leal through the pages is the answer to these questions:

What has been your part in these activities? Was it honorable? Was

it constructive? Will it make you a better citizen, one who will take

an active and pleasurable role in community life? If so, your time has

been well spent and you can remember with pride as well as pleasure

your years at Rogers.

For Ben . . .

Born—June 5, 1932

Died—February 16, 1950

When some young loved one dies, ice ask

xchif. It'ln/ did it have to be him, so young,

so full of life, with so much ahead of him.

We cannot know the why. All we know is

that at the Senior Breakfast table one well-

remembered laugh will not ring with ours,

diiI if an echo of what might have been. One

tall figure will not march down the aisle in

June; one blond head will not bow with ours

at Baccalaureate.

But painful as death is, how much better

it is to have had a short time to love, laugh,

and cry, to know the wild thrill of just being

alive, than never to have lived at all.
