VXLAN IPv6 Underlay Wizard

In Spirent TestCenter release 5.04, the VXLAN EVPN Overlay wizard now supports VXLAN IPv6

underlay configurations. With the wizard, you can configure VTEPs with IPv6 addresses in

interface and loopback.

VXLAN GPE

Spirent TestCenter release 5.04 introduces VXLAN GPE tunnel support for virtual Broadband

Network Gateway(vBNG). VxLAN defines an encapsulation format that encapsulates Ethernet

frames in an outer UDP/IP transport. VXLAN GPE (Generic Protocol Extension) extends the

existing VxLAN protocol to provide protocol typing, OAM, and versioning capabilities and to

support direct encapsulation of higher layer protocols such as IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, and vBNG.

With VXLAN GPE tunnel support, you can connect VM devices behind VXLAN VTEPs using a VM

to VXLAN-GPE VTEP link with next protocol as vBNG. A VXLAN GPE tunnel is used between

vBNG Control Plane and vBNG User Plane. The vBNG CP and vBNG UP devices can be in the

same or different subnets.

Routing Scale Enhancement: 1K Stream Block Support

In Spirent TestCenter release 5.04, the maximum number of stream blocks supported on Spirent

PX3 400G test modules, is increased to 1023 stream blocks, when 1 stream per stream block is

configured. Until version 5.04, a maximum of 255 stream blocks were supported.

Note: The new increased (1023) stream block support is available to stream blocks configured

using a List modifier only. The number of stream blocks is reduced to 255, when using Range

modifiers.

Control Plane and User Plane Separated BNG Protocol (CUSP) User Plane Emulation

BPK-1374 CUSP Protocol User Plane Emulation Base Package

Spirent TestCenter release 5.04 added support for user plane emulation of Control Plane and User

Plane Separated BNG Protocol (CUSP). A broadband remote access server (BRAS) routes traffic

to and from broadband remote access devices such as digital subscriber line access multiplexers

(DSLAM) on an Internet service provider's (ISP) network. BRAS is also referred to as a broadband

network gateway (BNG).

Control plane user plane separated BNG (CUSP) architecture is introduced to provide centralized

session management, flexible address allocation, high scalability for subscriber management

capacity, and cost-efficient redundancy. A control plane and user plane separated BNG is made up

of a Control Plane (CP) and a set of User Planes (UPs). The Control Plane is a user control

management component which manages UP's resources such as the user entry and user's Quality

of Service (QoS) policy, for example, the access bandwidth and priority management. Control

Plane could be virtualized and centralized. The User Plane Management module in the BNG

control plane centrally manages the distributed UPs (e.g. load balancing), as well as the setup,

deletion, update, and maintenance of channels between control planes and user planes. The User

Plane (UP) is a network edge and user policy implementation component. It can support the

forwarding plane functions on traditional BNG devices, such as traffic forwarding, QoS, and traffic

statistics collection.

Several interfaces are involved to support communication between the CP and UP. The CP and

UP use service interface to establish VXLAN tunnels with each other and transmit PPPoE and

IPoE packets over the VXLAN tunnels. The CP uses control interface to deliver service entries,

and the UP uses the control interface to report service events to the CP. The CP uses NETCONF

based management interface to deliver configurations to the UP. The CUSP protocol defines the

control interface and specifies establishing and maintaining the communication between the

centralized control plane and distributed user planes.

With this feature, a single Spirent TestCenter test port can emulate up to 200 user planes, and

exchange CUSP messages with the DUT (device under test) control plane.

To enable this feature, click the CUSP protocol tab and create one or more emulated user plane

devices.

You can set the DUT control plane IPv4 or IPv6 address and the port number. The default DUT CP

port number is 8912. You can also configure the Vendor Id, Hello Version, and CUSP Version.

Other configurable parameters, their default values, and value ranges are listed in the table below.

You can use action commands to send out specific CUSP messages.

This feature provides Spirent TestCenter IQ statistics and results for the number of session

up/down events and the number of transmitted and received CUSP messages per message type.

CoAP Server Emulation with Port Increment and Lifetime Support

BPK-1373 CoAP Server Emulation Base Package

Spirent TestCenter release 5.04 added port increment and lifetime support to CoAP (Constrained

Application Protocol) server emulation.

With this release, you can now set both the port number and incremental step value for the

emulated CoAP server and CoAP client DUT (device under test) separately.

A new “Lifetime” configuration parameter (in seconds) for emulated CoAP server is also

introduced. This parameter controls how often CoAP post messages are sent to CoAP client DUT

(device under test).

Software Stream Pre-load and Dead Streams Health Indicator

Release 5.04 adds Software Stream Pre-load to the Spirent TestCenter IQ framework. Software

pre-load allows stream properties to be collected and displayed even before traffic is started. In the

absence of software pre-load, some of the stream properties could not be populated until traffic

was started.

Software pre-load also allows for detection of dead streams during a live test, especially when no

packets were ever received on the Rx side. Release 5.04 includes a Dead Streams Health

Indicator that utilizes the pre-load feature. The pre-load function is always enabled in TestCenter

IQ; it does not require additional user configuration.

Edit SUT Details within Spirent TestCenter IQ

Spirent TestCenter IQ provides the ability to edit SUT details within the TestCenter IQ web UI. This

feature allows you to specify details about the SUT configuration and topology for any given test.

SUT details are included in the PDF test reports generated via TestCenter IQ.

Spirent FX2-1G, MX2-1G, and FX2-10G test modules added “Performance Mode” in port level.

STC-Default Mode: FX2/MX2-1G, 4 ports in a port group.

STC-AdvTSN Mode: TSN mode supports 802.1qbv analyzer, 2 ports in a port group.

Switch Mode reboots the port group.

WPA3 and Enhanced Open for 802.11AC Wave-2

The new WPA3 as the next generation of Wi-Fi security protocols and Enhanced Open securities

are now supported with 802.11ac Wave-2 gears. The new WPA3 security supports WPA2/WPA3

Personal, WPA3 Personal, and WPA3 Enterprise through a profile setting. Refer to the screen

captures for both WPA3 and Enhanced Open security options.

PMF Support for 802.11AX

802.11w (Protected Management Support, PMF) is now supported with all Spirent TestCenter

WLAN gears, including 802.11ac and 802.11ax gears. PMF is set to “Disabled” by default; enable

the feature using the drop-down arrow in the Advanced tab profile setting as shown below. The

feature is available for both multi-client and multi-AP emulation applications.

802.1x Enterprise Authentication EAP-AKA/ AKA’ and EAP-SIM

EAP-AKA/AKA’ and EAP-SIM are now supported on all Spirent TestCenter WLAN gears including

802.11ac and 802.11ax gears. The UI configuration is shown in screen captures below. The new

EAP types are for both multi-client and multi-AP emulation applications.

Enhanced DFS Parameter Settings

This release introduces two enhanced DFS features: random selection of center frequency and user-changeable radar parameters (Pulse Width, Pulse Repetition Interval (PRI), and Pulse per Burst) as shown in the screen captures. They are supported for both 802.11ac and 802.11ax gears.

Wi-Fi Channel Condition Report for 802.11AX

Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) to appraise the RF medium for a real time channel assessment for Wi-Fi. Channel condition information through a CCA process is useful to understand real-time channel characteristics. This release introduces a few new WiFi stats for channel condition assessment that include channel Congestion (%) and Busy Time (%) in the last 10 seconds and are updated periodically. The new stats are supported with 802.11ax gears and are on a per port (radio) basis as shown below.
