Terminal Emulation & Protocol Testing

The PROLAB Terminal Emulation is a single testing platform for exhaustive terminal testing. The PROLAB Terminal Emulation solution comes with hundreds of built-in plug-and-play scripts and test case media files. It delivers simulation and testing for all protocols, including online and offline analysis.

The PROLAB Terminal Emulation solution is fully compliant with the latest SIP, IMS, H.323 and 3G standards.

It receives a scenario, runs it on command, generates traffic to Devices Under Test (DUTs), collects test results and returns them to the central core testing management module, the PROLAB Test Manager, in real time. Network equipment vendors and service providers can use the PROLAB Terminal Emulation solution to simulate calls using various audio and video codecs, SD and Full-HD. The PROLAB model is ideal for performing emulations and media quality measurements before a product release or the launching of a new VoIP service.

Server Emulation

The PROLAB Testing Suite has the ability to act as a Server to simulate different network topologies and different entities on a VoIP network. Servers that can be simulated, include: SIP Servers, IMS Servers and Gatekeepers.

For SIP or IMS Server simulation, the PROLAB Server emulation and testing solution implements the logic and functionality of the Call Session Control Function Registrar, Proxy and Security, while using a powerful tool to configure the behavior of the various policies.

Test Result & Analysis

The Test Result & Analysis add-on offers an intuitive tool to automate test results analysis. Projected results can be pre-defined and tested against actual results automatically to speed up testing processes and reduce time-to-market. In addition, new versions can be automatically tested against projected results. The solution delivers flexible report generation tools that can be customized to specific requirements. The tools include summary and detailed reports.

Automation Testing for Large and Small Scale Operations

The PROLAB Testing Suite supports automated testing for both large-scale operations and small to medium-size needs. Large organizations can enjoy remote third-party control of the PROLAB Testing Suite, which uses an open interface that is fully automated and requires no user intervention. Communication between the PROLAB Test Manager and the open interface API of the third-party application is carried out over the XML/API library. It also gives third-party application developers the ability to connect to the PROLAB Test Manager directly through the XML interface, in the event that the application is written in a different programming language.

For smaller deployments, an intuitive Test Scheduler offers a sophisticated scheduling system for comprehensive automated test procedures. Users can define multiple test cases. For each new cycle, tests can be rescheduled, which results in shorter testing.

Media Analysis & Network Impairment

PROLAB Media Analysis is a powerful media analysis tool for audio and video codecs that generates real audio and video payloads based on pre-recorded streams. PROLAB analyzes all incoming audio and video streams, online and offline, including packet loss, BW, delay, jitter, duplicate packets, and so on. All network metrics are analyzed. Emulating network problems is a highly effective and cost-efficient way to test network applications and equipment in laboratory conditions, providing the ability to uncover problems prior to deployment.

Voice & Video Quality Measurement

Spirent’s standards-based Video Quality solutions deliver both real-time and passive offline measurement and monitoring that is truly scalable.

Spirent’s Video Quality solutions encompass objective and subjective assessment, using our innovative techniques that take into consideration inherent video images in addition to network parameters. The unique correlation and integrated approach to all of these factors is the best way to accurately assess video quality and deliver high QoE in today’s large-scale networks. In addition, an “intelligent” database of video quality parameters enables constant improvement, using automated solutions that require no human input.

PROLAB enables testing both Audio Quality and Video Quality, using no-reference and full-reference testing based on the ITU standards, as well as innovative research by Radvision and its unique algorithm to synchronize original and degraded video streams. Radvision’s algorithm takes into consideration streams with different frame rates; streams that have been resized with different algorithms; streams with additional logos or titles, and so on. Additional key performance indicators (KPIs), such as PSNR and blockiness, are output to allow experts to make a more detailed analysis by frame.

Cause Analysis & Improvement

VQ measurement provides a detailed cause analysis as a means for improving video quality. Since the quality of a video stream is determined by the compression quality and the transmission quality, various factors can degrade the VQ.
