VOICES OF SECONDARY RADIOCarey Carlson, WTCM/Traverse City, Mich.

“Six years ago I created a Sunday evening show The Back Burner which features lesser known artists and songs. I tell listeners to bring their ‘brave ears’ each weekend to weigh in on the

songs they hear. I truly believe WTCM is a leader in breaking music, not only in our market but in the region/nation.

There’s something more organic about the charts on MR. It can draw my eye/ear to what's around the bend, like Austin Webb. He got some buzz on Back Burner with ‘It’s all Good,’ but this new one seems to really connect with our listeners. I feel there will be a bit of a backlash to the hick-hop, rap bandwagon. Striking Matches and so much of the music of ABC’s Nashville has

connected with me personally.”

NO. 1 SONG

Everyone pile in the ’36 Ford Deluxe to help run shine to a Brantley Gilbert house party. Well, that’s how they do it in Gilbert’s latest music video for this week’s No. 1 song on the MusicRow Chart, “Bottoms Up.”

The Valory Music Co.’s single was written by Gilbert, Justin Weaver and Brett James. Dann Huff produced the track, which was released as the first single off of the Georgia-native’s forthcoming album, Just As I Am. The label group previewed the May release at an industry party last November, appropriately themed for the era.

Gilbert’s bad-to-the-bone image is elevated to a new level with Shaun Drake’s ‘30s themed video. A Bonnie-, Bonnie-, Bonnie- and Clyde-esque scene turns into a modern-day house party with mics, electric guitars, and Beats headphones. That is, until Gilbert finally takes aim at the local sheriff.

Gilbert will be showcasing his tattooed guns on tour with Thomas Rhett and Eric Paslay for his own Let It Ride Tour 2014 through May.
