CNC

Ok, it is probably not a real quote, but the concept does apply and especially in CNC. Having worked with CNC machines for more than a decade now and having built a few of them myself I find myself evermore intrigued by the technology and using it more frequently.

Ranging from three-axis CNC mills/routers for wood, metal and plastics application, to two-axis setups used in laser, plasma, and simple pen or brush plotters, I find the experience of drafting up a manifold 3-D model and watching it come to life on a CNC truly mesmerizing.

3-D Print/Additive Manufacturing

I really enjoy drawing up conceptual machines, gizmos, gadgets, and models and going through the process of making them manifold for 3D print. My process is currently based on extruder technology, but I am looking forward to work with scintillating and laser 3D technologies. Here are several of my original models.

Using 3D print technology to solve problems ranging from the management of low-voltage wiring to fully functional mechanical and electrical props and tools is highly rewarding. In fact, I used my 3D printers to create my 2D laser cutter including the platen mounts, carriage apparatus, and the laser/heatsink head.

My experience in these technologies has taken my CAD and modelling skills to a new level, employing the concept of manifold/production-ready models, and working with various materials to come up with more appropriate mechanical interfaces such as pivots, involute gear angles, and the like.

Whether professional or personal I see participation in the evolution of the CNC and additive-manufacturing worlds on my path for the foreseeable future.
