COLLECTION OF DATA ON STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

All schools in Australia, including Independent and Catholic

schools, will participate in the Nationally Consistent

Collection of Data on School Students with Disability 2015.

The Data Collection is an annual count of the number of

students with disability receiving educational adjustments

to support their participation in education on the same basis

as students without disability. All education agencies are

now required under the Australian Education Regulation

2013 to provide information on a student’s level of

education, disability and level of adjustment to the

Australian Government Department of Education and

Training. Data will be de-identified prior to its transfer and

no student’s identity will be provided to the Australian

Government Department of Education and Training.

The collection of this information from states and territories

will inform future policy and program planning in relation to

students with disability.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact

the Principal, Greg Paine on 9807 1480 or the Victorian

Department of Education and Training Data Collection

Hotline on (03) 9651 3621. For questions after 7 August

2015, please call the Australian Government Department of

Education and Training on 1300 566 046.

GENERAL INFORMATION

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING (DE&T) SCHOOL NURSE VISIT Alison Baker is the visiting Primary School Nurse from the Department of Education and Training (DE&T) who will be attending our school late Term 3 or early Term 4. During her visit she will conduct the Prep student health assessments and, if necessary, see other students in the school as requested by parents and / or teachers (written parents’ consent required). All parents of Prep students will have received the school nurse -prep students questionnaire last week which need to be returned to their child’s teacher in the sealed envelopes provided. These are confidential documents which are lodged directly with the DE& T School Nurse. The purpose of the Primary School Nurse visit is to provide all Victorian children with the opportunity to have a health assessment and link children, families and school communities to services available in the community, providing information and advice that promotes health and wellbeing. Parents are invited to contact Alison Baker directly on 0412 161 473 if there are any issues they wish to discuss. Parents of students (other than Prep students) that wish their child to be seen by the school nurse need to complete a Referral form available from Vicki Martin or their child’s teacher. All completed Prep Student Questionnaires and Referral forms need to be returned to the class teacher by Wednesday 22 July. Vicki Martin Assistant Principal

WORKING BEE DATE Term 3: Saturday 1 August Term 4 : Saturday 7 November

Hi, I’m Earnest and I care about the Environment.

We can all look after our garden beds at school.

Schools Tree Day, held on the last Friday of July (24th July 2015), is a special day for Australia’s school children. As budding environmentalists they are doing their bit for our country by planting native trees and shrubs and beautifying our school grounds. Over 250,000 school children were involved in last year’s event. Tree Day shows us how easy and what fun it is to help our environment and connect with nature.

“Planting native trees in our school is a great way to ensure that plenty of habitat is provided for our native wildlife,” says Earnest Eco-Earth. “It’s also an important way that we can contribute to the environment and help fight climate change at a community level.”

This year 400 plants will be planted along the back fence garden, around the back of the portables, with the aim of making the gardens look better and to provide a place for our local wildlife to eat and live safely. This will be our 15th Annual Tree Planting Day at MWPS and will go towards our school maintaining its BIODIVERSITY Star as part of the AUSSI Resource Smart Schools Program.

A colouring competition is being held again this year with fabulous environmentally themed prizes on offer. Colouring sheets can be obtained from classroom teachers or from the COMPETITIONS page of the MWPS SUSTAINABILITY blog (see tab above or click on the word COMPETITIONS). The link is: http://sustainabilityatmwps.global2.vic.edu.au/competitions/

This year there is a Junior entry (Prep – 2), a Senior entry (Yrs 3-6) and a teacher/parent entry. This way the whole family can be involved!

All entries must have the child’s/adult’s name and class on the front and can be given to Ms Leary (Room 31) or left at the Office. The competition closes on Friday July 31st. No late entries will be accepted.
