Bondi to Bluff

Friendships formed!

Boatie News It’s been a strong start to the

season for both crews. Our

open women’s crew have had

some excellent results in the

Streets Central Coast and

Hunter Surf Boat series.

After four rounds they have

two 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd and

are just behind Caves beach for

the overall series lead with two

rounds to go. In the same se-

ries our open men have had

three wins and a second and

sit on top of the overall points

table with a commanding 9

point lead.

Our open men also had good

results at Coffs Craft Carnival

finishing third after the round

robin before being eliminated

in the semi finals after an

unlucky knock at the start.

Our open men are also com-

peting in the Ocean Thunder

Surf Boat Series. The series has

20 of the best surf boat crews

in the country racing in a four

carnival series at Dee Why

Beach in Sydney. It is the first

time in many years the Hunter

has had a representative in the

Ocean Thunder Surf Boat Se-

ries. After two hard rounds of

racing we sit around the mid-

dle of the pack. The series is

televised on Fox sports. For

anyone interested in coming to

watch a carnival there is one

locally at Swansea on the

19/01/2014 and the Australian

Surf Rowers League is at Stock-

ton on the 7th, 8th and 9th of

February.

Finally a big thank you to our

major sponsors; The Beauford

hotel Mayfield, NCIG, Newcas-

tle Port Corp and The Man

Shake. Luke Moore

the 8th.

Steve Bennett, Zac Donnelly,

Trevor Anderson (Nobby's)

and Brendan Ryman from

Stockton crewed the boats.

Chris Moonie and Myself went

by road to retrieve the Boats

and crews from Hawksnest.

I followed the Trip along with

others that made new friends

Tv coverage was also ar-

ranged thanks to Terry Busch

and Chris Moonie. On Sunday

morning at 6:30am 2 Alexan-

der Headland crews were

escorted by 2 Nobby's IRBs to

Hawksnest beach. These

Guys endured a few hairy

Moments battling a 5 metre

swell but have not stopped

talking about the first leg on

from our clubs coming to-

gether on Facebook.

I was very surprised to recieve

a phone call wednesday night

requesting that i be on a plane

that they had booked for me

to be at Alexander Headland

when the guys arrived home

as a thank you for the effort I

had put in for helping these

at Caves beach to escort them

through to Nobbys and sug-

gested they head to Horseshoe

beach due to the conditions.

Within the hour the crews

were arriving at Horseshoe

beach where a team of our

branch jet skis assisted the

guys in. A great afternoon was

had with a great crew from

Nobby's joining in with Alex to

make an enjoyable stop over

for these guys.

Alexander headland people

were over the moon with our

friendship. Nobby's supplied

Dinner, accommodation in the

shed and breakfast.

The Alexander Headland SLSC

contacted Nobby's to see if we

could help out in there quest in

trying to raise $50,000 to help

out Wayne Till a fellow mem-

ber and father of 2 that was

injured 5 years ago in an IRB

racing accident.

Nobbys SLSC responded to

assist our fellow lifesavers.

Two IRB's left Bondi beach on

7th December, heading north.

I met up with the guys and girls

but were diverted to Kawana SLSC

making this a unfor-

through a salute from 2 of Alex's

Boat crews. We hit the beach in

On Saturday night an auction and

for Wayne.

The total of money raise as of sun-

day morning was approx. $37,000

The nippers are trained each Sun-

taking first place. Brodie

Brodie Marshall who won the U13

flags. 2nd place was achieved by

Brodie Henderson in the U13 beach

sprint whilst Lachlan Terry came

3rd in the U12 beach sprint and

ing 3rd in the U9 flags.

14 final positions were achieved.

The parents had a great day too!

A contingent of 16 nippers at-

tended the Dixon Park Carnival on

18 Jan 2014. Nobbys fielded an all

age board relay for the first time in

a while. 10 kids competed in

boards, nine did the swim , one the

fielding a beach sprint relay team.

Xmas at Nobbys

Parents View Hi All,

As parents of children who

have attended carnivals we

would like to let you know just

how beneficial and inspiring

they can be! Trevor Marshall is

in charge of carnivals for Nob-

bys this year and he is one

dedicated and passionate indi-

vidual! At the carnival for the

Lake Macquarie Games, we

had ten Nobbys competitors.

Other clubs had upwards of

100 each and yet we were still

very competitive. Thanks

to Trevor, we had our Nob-

bys tent, and we wore our

uniform with pride (and came

home with medals!)

Carnivals are a fantastic way to

get your ‘Nipper’ even more

passionate about their club

and the invaluable skills

they are leaning. All you have

to do is turn up to a different

beach every now and then and

the benefits will be there.

Carnivals promote club pride,

passion and motivation as well

as teaching the kids invaluable

skills. The children support

each other, cheering each

other on and really get a taste

of formal competition. Parents

and children get an opportu-

nity to chat and form friend-

ships while supporting their

club at the same time.

So if you’ve been thinking that

Carnivals are not for you then

think again! They are positive

and motivating for the chil-

dren and parents. You know

how the saying goes…the

more the merrier!
