this wonderful country of ours.
Anthony Croke and the nippers
demonstrated the flags. This was
followed shortly after by an
international flag race. The
young nippers and their aussie
flag a fitting way to end the day.
Nobbys SLSC played host to many
teams from the special Olympics
on Friday 6 December 2013.
Thanks to all the Nobbys families
that supported the event. Ted,
Larry and Garry whipped up a
great Aussie BBQ which added to
the beach appeal. We had a great
time playing soccer, volleyball,
demonstrating beach flags and
the great Aussie Tug o War. The
America Samoan team very hard
to beat. The teams left the beach
with huge smiles on their faces as
did we. One of the highlights was
Team Singapore walking on
beach sand for the first time and
finally making it down to the
water. Smiles of delight were
seen when the first wave washed
over toes and feet started to sink
into the sand. Some of the little
things in life that surf lifesavers
and nippers take for granted in
Nobbys honored two of its own
on 12 January 2014 by holding a
ceremony and naming two new
IRBs in honour of the late Aina
Ranke and Terry ‘Buschy’ Busch.
We were treated to wonderful
sentiments from Andrew Griffiths
about Buschy and Allan Gordon
about Aina followed by the
champagne and launch. A two
gun salute from Fort Scratchley
landed a blow sending Buschy
flying into the water. More
champagne went into Buschy’s
mouth then over the IRB. Two
well deserving members.

Bondi to Bluff
Friendships formed!
Boatie News It’s been a strong start to the
season for both crews. Our
open women’s crew have had
some excellent results in the
Streets Central Coast and
Hunter Surf Boat series.
After four rounds they have
two 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd and
are just behind Caves beach for
the overall series lead with two
rounds to go. In the same se-
ries our open men have had
three wins and a second and
sit on top of the overall points
table with a commanding 9
point lead.
Our open men also had good
results at Coffs Craft Carnival
finishing third after the round
robin before being eliminated
in the semi finals after an
unlucky knock at the start.
Our open men are also com-
peting in the Ocean Thunder
Surf Boat Series. The series has
20 of the best surf boat crews
in the country racing in a four
carnival series at Dee Why
Beach in Sydney. It is the first
time in many years the Hunter
has had a representative in the
Ocean Thunder Surf Boat Se-
ries. After two hard rounds of
racing we sit around the mid-
dle of the pack. The series is
televised on Fox sports. For
anyone interested in coming to
watch a carnival there is one
locally at Swansea on the
19/01/2014 and the Australian
Surf Rowers League is at Stock-
ton on the 7th, 8th and 9th of
February.
Finally a big thank you to our
major sponsors; The Beauford

Steve Bennett, Zac Donnelly,
Trevor Anderson (Nobby's)

Stockton crewed the boats.
Chris Moonie and Myself went

I followed the Trip along with

Tv coverage was also ar-

trying to raise $50,000 to help

Nobbys SLSC responded to

humbled and honored for this invi-
tation. (they were not taking NO as

Brisbane airport and headed north
but were diverted to Kawana SLSC

Xmas at Nobbys
Parents View Hi All,
As parents of children who
have attended carnivals we
would like to let you know just
how beneficial and inspiring
they can be! Trevor Marshall is
in charge of carnivals for Nob-
bys this year and he is one
dedicated and passionate indi-
vidual! At the carnival for the
Lake Macquarie Games, we
had ten Nobbys competitors.
Other clubs had upwards of
100 each and yet we were still
very competitive. Thanks
to Trevor, we had our Nob-
bys tent, and we wore our
uniform with pride (and came
home with medals!)
Carnivals are a fantastic way to
get your ‘Nipper’ even more
passionate about their club
and the invaluable skills
they are leaning. All you have
to do is turn up to a different
beach every now and then and
the benefits will be there.
Carnivals promote club pride,
passion and motivation as well
as teaching the kids invaluable
skills. The children support
each other, cheering each
other on and really get a taste
of formal competition. Parents
and children get an opportu-
nity to chat and form friend-
ships while supporting their
club at the same time.
So if you’ve been thinking that
Carnivals are not for you then
think again! They are positive
and motivating for the chil-
dren and parents. You know
how the saying goes…the
more the merrier!

Policies and Operating Procedures
Beach Patrols Firstly I would like to thank
everyone who volunteered
their time over the busy holi-
day period. All patrols were
well attended and we had very
few incidents. I would espe-
cially like to thank everyone
who came on Xmas day, I
know this is a very busy time
and your commitment to the
club is very much appreciated.
Just a reminder to all patrol-
ling members you must let
your Patrol Captain know if
you’re not going to make your
rostered patrol and also tell
them who your swap is. It is
unfair to the rest of your team
if you just dont turn up. And
finally, if you’re a patrolling
member and haven’t received
your SLSA “double pluggas”
please see me as I still have a
limited number left.
