1804. The Dillinger Hütte steel mill rolls its first steel plate. In

1845, a company which later becomes part of Mannesmannröhren-

Werke produces continental Europe’s first welded steel pipe.

In 1991, these two steel industry pioneers – AG der Dillinger

Hüttenwerke and Mannesmannröhren-Werke AG – decide to

pool their experience and know-how and create EUROPIPE.

Our rich heritage in terms of steel technology and manufactur-

ing expertise plus the dedication and hard work of our people

enabled us to achieve some very demanding objectives.

Today we are the world-market leader in large-diameter pipe

production for the oil and gas sector and have the most ex-

EUROPIPE Special Products, working together with its

clients, has already delivered over 100,000 tons of pipes into

non-linepipe applications. These include civil engineering

applications, e.g. the roof support frame of the stadium “AWD

Arena” in Hanover/Germany and the exposition hall “Neue

knowledge of steel manufacturing starting with the blast fur-

nace and plate rolling to pipe manufacturing and coating. This

includes the pipe material but also processing and pipe design.

vanced metallurgical laboratories for steel research, develop-

EUROPIPE’s core business is the development, manufacturing

and supply of large-diameter pipes for pipeline projects in the

oil and gas industry.

EUROPIPE Special Products serves non-linepipe applications

using all of EUROPIPE’s strengths. EUROPIPE’s globally renown

high quality level and large capacity will always enable us to

fulfil the requirements for non-linepipe projects including de-

mands on a smaller scale.

Although most of EUROPIPE’s production lines are set up for

fast mass production of pipes, small projects benefit from the

12-metre line in Mülheim an der Ruhr / Germany, which has a

greater flexibility in terms of diameters and wall thicknesses.

Our pipes have been used in many marine engineering, off-

shore construction and civil engineering projects.Major structures often use tubular frames for the advantages

they offer in high rigidity and reduced weight. The stadium

“AWD Arena” in Hanover /Germany, uses EUROPIPE pipes for

the roof’s support frame. In a stadium capable of holding

49,000 people, security is the first concern and no risk can

be taken.

When it comes to marine engineering, offshore construction or

 jetties, the corrosive nature of sea water can be a major issue

and cause for cost increases. As a large percentage of pipe-

lines are offshore, EUROPIPE pipes are made to withstand the

harsh corrosive nature of salt water. On top of this EUROPIPE

pipes are all designed to perform at extreme temperatures and

have a high fatigue resistance.

NEW APPLICATIONS

EUROPIPE is a joint venture of two of the leading companies

in the field of high quality steel production in Europe. Need-

less to say, we know teamwork and have always worked very

closely with our clients to ensure that all their needs are ful-

filled and that maximum efficiency in the field is achieved.

EUROPIPE has and is prepared to enter, in partnership with our

customers, into completely new fields of applications where

EUROPIPE pipes can be a crucial success factor.

For example, EUROPIPE pipes are used to develop a new way

of marine gas transportation. In this project, pipes are installed

on ships as perfectly adapted containers for the storage of

gas during transportation. Gas on CNG ships is stored in the

pipes under high pressure at ambient temperature, needing

only minimal infrastructure investments for loading and un-

loading. This compares to LNG tankers where gas is liquefied

at -162°C and requires an expensive infrastructure. In this spe-cific project, fatigue resistance was the main design criteria

for the pipes. To address this issue, EUROPIPE developed the

Hifa®Pipe specifically for CNG application. They are capable of

withstanding the high fatigue criteria resulting from the pres-

sure differences during gas loading and unloading.

EUROPIPE’s research and development for this new product

made the project possible and successful.

EUROPIPE pipes are used in jacket structures as offshore foun-

dations for large multi MW wind turbines for deep water in-

stallation. Creating a new design using EUROPIPE steel exper-

tise, standard pipes and coating, a cost efficient structure was

produced having a direct impact on the financial viability of

this offshore wind park concept.
