Pacifi c Coast Horseshoeing School(209) 245-3920www.FarrierSchool.com

Don't pick a school based on location—pick a school based upon curriculum. At the Pacifi c Coast Horseshoeing School, the instructors

are—or have been—full-time, professional farriers. Th ey have years of experience running a business and supporting their families by shoeing horses, and they teach more than just nailing steel on the bottom of horse’s feet.

If you are going to be away from home to learn the art of horse-shoeing, you need the opportunity to practice after school and on weekends. Th e best way to get good is to practice, and you have to be provided with the opportunity. At PCHS, the forge area is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Th e classroom with video and book library is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Also at PCHS, students start and graduate as a class. No "new guys" entering every week that would require us to stop teaching you to re-view old material for them. All lectures, demonstrations and shoeings are a smooth progression, one building upon the other, toward produc-ing a professional farrier.

Also, PCHS does not use ill-mannered, dangerous horses for stu-dents to shoe. Horses are going to be the same type of horses you plan on shoeing when you go home. Students need good quality horses that allow them to practice professional skills. Th e opportunity to shoe 10 horses per day would be without merit if you can’t shoe any of them because they are dangerous. PCHA is so confi dent of its teaching ability and our professional facility that it off ers a 100 percent refund to any student who withdraws from the program, for any reason, on or before the end of the fi rst week of training.

…and the

products behind Hoof careCavallo, Inc.(855) 543-9403www.Cavallo-Inc.com

Is there a better option than nailing metal into your horse’s hoof? Yes, says Cavallo President Carole Herder.

“We say that a horse has fi ve hearts—four frogs on the ground and the organ in the chest,” she says.

When weight-bearing, the frogs pump the blood and spread the heels apart, explains Carole, drawing the sole fl at and allowing the bone structure of the leg to descend into the hoof. If you can accept that blood circulation is imperative to the fl ow of nutrients through-out the system and that healthy blood fl ow aids in prevention and facilitates healing, it follows that limiting circulation will lead to degeneration.

When metal is nailed in all around and the hoof is clamped in its smallest, most contracted position, the frog function may be limited and both proper blood circula-tion and shock absorption are dangerously impeded, she says.

Also, she adds, if you take a metal shoe and bang it against a hard surface, you will feel the tremors vibrate up your arm. In fact, even the nails cause vibration, which will compromise the integrity and break down hoof structure. Also, if you think that metal shoes provide protection, please consider that the outside walls of the hoof are already hard and that it is the softer middle sole area which needs protection.

“Using Cavallo Hoof Boots is the answer that can help solve or prevent these problems,” says Carole, who founded Cavallo in 1994. “Cavallo boots provide 100 percent hoof protection.”
