Dear parents and friends of EHPS We wanted to have a special edition newsletter as we have many positive student achievements that we wanted to share with our school community. Firstly an update on what returning to school in Term 2 will look like. I look forward to moving past this time and for us all to further develop the new skills and understandings we have learned through COVID-19 . Take care, Mrs Duncan Returning to school in Term 2 There has been a lot of uncertainty and mixed messages in the media. As you are aware, this is an ever changing educational climate we are in and schools make decisions based on the latest information from the Department of Education (DoE). Hopefully we will see an increase in students being able to attend school sooner, as we move through the phases. https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/learning-from-home We have started back to school as directed by the DoE in Phase 0-Week 1 and Week 2 (4th May-8th May). Please note, all students who are on site will be learning from one unit of work with K-6 teachers present on site. Student learning grids will continue this week and next week. School is open and operational for those families who need it.
Next week…. Week 3: we move to Phase 1 with all children attending for 1 day per week in stage groups. As communicated, all children will be returning to school from May 11 (week 3) for a minimum of one day a week. This model was chosen for a number of reasons: 1. Parent feedback from a recent survey. 2. We see all children in the school across the week. 3.Students will be working with their class teacher through the allocated day. 4. Students will be interacting with their peer groups. 5. We can meet the NSW Health and NSW DOE guidelines of approx. 25% of the school on site at any one time. Please note, that this continues to increase as restrictions are lifted. On the day allocated for the stage the students will be working and learning with their stage teachers.
To support siblings or family groups they are able to attend on other days than allocated if necessary to support
parents working etc. These students will be in mixed groups and their learning supervised by a K-6 teacher. I
acknowledge that the allocated days may not suit every single parent due to work commitments. I understand the
frustration with this, but we are working as flexibly as we can to meet the needs of the Department, the students, the
staff and the parents. This is not an easy ‘juggle’, so we ask you to work with us the best you can. Thank you in
anticipation of your support.
Phase 1 Organisation Week 3 All students have been allocated a day where they will be working with their class teacher throughout the day. The row of “Other” means students that are attending due to parents being essential workers, siblings attending, students cannot be supervised at home.

EHPS Reading GEMS
Has your child levelled up over the last few weeks? If so, students are invited to bring their EHPS Home Reading books back to school on their allocated school days. Please keep in mind that with so many students expected to level up, we may not get awards printed on that day. We will however endeavour to send them home as soon as possible. Teachers will also be able to post their class treasure bag on Seesaw during the week.

This year champion Blake in 3/4Z participated in the World's Greatest
Shave.
For all of you that don’t know what it is, it is one of Australia’s biggest
fundraising events where you shave or cut your hair to raise money for
the Leukaemia Foundation. Well done Blake!
This took place in his home a few months ago and he raised over $670.
WOW!! We asked him if he was nervous before he did it and he said,
“Yes, I had butterflies in my stomach.”
Blake shaved his head to raise this money because he knows two peo-
ple who have Leukaemia. He is extremely proud of what he has done
and how he has made a difference in the world.
Congratulations to Blake for being so brave and inspiring!

Mr Russell made the Newcastle Herald in the break sending a message to his community. Sam Russell made
the signs with his housemates "instead of binge Netflixing".
Edgeworth Heights Public School teacher Sam Russell is displaying two home-made signs outside his home.
One reads 'Be kind wherever possible', the other 'If you want to be happy... be'. "The kids inspired me to do it,"
he said.
"They were doing rainbows on their footpaths, little signs and writing letters to the elderly.
"I thought 'We shouldn't just leave it to the kids to come up with great ideas'.
"We get a lot of foot traffic with workers in the city and thought it would be nice for them to see something... par-
ticularly health professionals and people working for the public.
"It's to remind people that even in the hardest times you can still be happy and kind."
He is also investigating setting up a street library of books to borrow, plus a stick library for dogs.
"There's a lot you can do if you think creatively," he said. "I really encourage everyone to promote a sense of
community."
From Mrs Foster
Keep looking after yourselves and your family. Remember to ask for help if you need it, as every-body needs help at some stage. In the newsletter there is a "Coping Calendar" from the 'Action for Happiness' website. Take time to have a look, work through some of the suggestions and most of all look after yourselves. We hope to see you all back safe and well as soon as it is logistically possible.
