I am excited to work with such a wonderful group of students this year and cannot wait to start learning! Thank you for taking time out of your evening to come see our classroom and meet me. We are off to a great start in 5th grade this year! We spent the first few days getting to know each other, learning our 5th grade routine, and expectations.

Independent Reading Goals

5th grade students have officially received their first quarter due dates for their Independent Reading Goal. Each quarter 5th grade students are required to read 5 chapter books of their choice that are in their Lexile range. Once they have finished their book they are required to take a Scholastic Reading Counts test and report their score to their teacher. Students may only choose 1 graphic novel (Examples include: Dork Diaries or Diary of a Wimpy Kid) to read this quarter. If a student chooses, they may complete the reading BEFORE the due dates for the quarter and then be on a “Reading Vacation” the rest of the quarter.

The due dates for each book are below. Students may have the opportunity to use some Reading Workshop time to read but most will have to read at home to complete this requirement. If your child fails to complete an Independent Reading Goal by the due date they will owe their recess time until it is completed.
