Traum <> raum <> TraumA

Perception of the city: picture perfect

Private versus public

Historical stratification: the less visible side of Bruges

This translates into a polyphonic story that portrays this duality, that stimulates the

imagination and senses and that questions the sharp line between public and private space. A

story in which Bruges is presented in all its facets and in which there is room for experiment

and discourse.

Rinus Van de Velde: Inner Travelsexhibition, BOZAR Centre for Fine Art, Brussels

The exhibition explores the universe of Belgian artist RinusVan de Velde, who is widely known for his large-scale charcoal drawings, and places his work in dialogue with Dürer as well as some of the most significant artists from the 20th and 21st

centuries. The story is narrated through Van de Velde’s drawings, sculptures and his new film as well as through the works of other artists. As a prime example of a mobility machine, the train takes up a central place: it propels the story forwards and symbolizes the artists’ (inner) travels.

Orient Expressheritage exhibition, Train World, Brussels

The Orient Express still resonates today as a metaphor for the golden age of travel. A pure product of its era, it could only have been born under specific economic, technical, industrial and political conditions. Moreover, the Orient Express witnessed an evolving society. Criss-crossing numerous frontiers, the Orient Express remains associated with travel and adventure, and never failed to inspire writers and filmmakers. The exhibition will evoke the imaginations it awakened and the dreams it engendered, from the most famous to the most tenuous, without forgetting the craftsmen who contributed to building its legend.

Boris Charmatz/TerrainLa Ronde (working title) – new creation

Opening week-end

Brussels North station – Former Train Museum - 15 October 2021Charleroi-South station - 16 or 17 October (TBC)

in collaboration with Biennale internationale de la danse - Charleroi Danse

A train station has always been a romantic meeting place for lovers. Famous French choreographer Boris Charmatzstructures the hall of Brussels North Station and the former Train Museum starting from one of dance’s essential elements: the twosome. Using the principle of circulation found in La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler, in which couples are recomposed over and over again, this round dance mixes dancers, actors, musicians and singers. An 8 hour long uninterrupted series of duos. The beginning and the ending takes the form of a participative event in the big hall of Brussels North: first a warm up and skill-sharing workshop, at the end a performance with amateurs and professionals, mixing different couple dancing styles.

Page 44: SPEAKER: TOM PIETERS - VISITFLANDERS

THEME: BIG BANG THEORY

The central focus is the human fascination with the cosmos and its origins.

The choice of this theme is no coincidence. The Big Bang theory was first proposed in the last century by the Leuven professor Georges Lemaître.

Page 45: SPEAKER: TOM PIETERS - VISITFLANDERS

An exciting theme that will appeal to everyone…

The festival will sketch a rich picture of ideas that have captivated universal interest throughout the centuries: the eternal fascination of humanity, looking up at the stars and asking questions about the origins, form and meaning of the immeasurable universe.

The festival connects the past, the present and the future and fosters cross-cultural encounter.
