Today we continue that legacy by prayerfully preaching the gospel, training Christians in evangelism and resourcing the church for its mission to the world....

Revival does not exist to supplant or side-step the church but to serve it. The church is God’s evangelistic strategy for the world. Our great privilege is to equip and resource God’s people for God’s mission. We do this in the context of both challenge and opportunity.

At a recent university mission, our evangelist Glen Scrivener spoke about Jesus to a fascinated student. After 15 minutes she said with a smile ‘You are so different from the other Christians I’ve met.’ Glen asked ‘Have you spoken to many Christians in the past?’ The girl thought and replied, ‘Actually, you’re the first Christian I’ve spoken to.’ Her response exposes so much about our context in the UK. There is a pervasive negative perception of Christians combined with a complete lack of exposure to the Christian message. Above all, though, there is an openness to hearing about Jesus and a joy in hearing the good news for the first time. This is why we must speak life to a new generation.

1952

In 1952 Eric Hutchings founded The Hour of Revival Association and soon became one of Britain’s foremost evangelists - leading 25 city-wide evangelistic campaigns across the UK, Europe, Africa and Australia. While at the helm of Revival he pioneered radio and film outreach, broadcasting to millions over his 30 years in charge.

Victor Pearce took over after Eric’s death in 1982. He continued the evangelistic thrust with his extremely popular Evidence for Truth radio broadcasts and accompanying books.

In 1995, Ian Milmine became General Manager, developing our radio ministry as well as establishing an outreach work in East Africa and opening up the Christian Prayer Centre at our offices in Eastbourne.

Glen Scrivener joined Revival as Evangelist in 2010 and became director of ministry in 2014. Under God, the ministry continues Hutchings’ vision to proclaim the gospel, equip Christians in their witness and resource the church with attractive, evangelistic media.

PROCLAMATIONGlen preaches multiple times each week in churches, student unions, pubs, the street corner, anywhere that will have him (and some places that won’t!). Contact us to book Glen for yourself.

TRAININGEvangelists don’t simply evangelise, they help the whole church to be the missionary body Christ has made us to be (see Ephesians 4:11-12). To this end Glen advises church pastors and leadership teams as well as training church members in evangelism around the country.

Glen also helps to train emerging leaders with the likes of UCCF, Cornhill, Porterbrook, WEST, Cor Deo and the Gospel Partnerships. We are also moving forwards with two-year evangelistic apprenticeships in conjunction with Union and the University of Chester. These combine deep theology and practical experience in the context of life-sharing discipleship. Contact us to explore future training possibilities

RESOURCES321In 2011, Glen released a 5 minute animated video called 321. It was a simple gospel presentation but it has had a profound and global impact. Viewed hundreds of thousands of times in 15 languages, here are just two responses:

321 now exists as a video, a tract, an app, a book and an evangelistic course. It has been heartily endorsed by church leaders like John Piper, Mike Reeves, Tim Chester and Rico Tice.

321 also forms the basis of an evangelism training course called 321Go. Armed with the gospel truths of 3 (Trinity), 2 (Adam and Christ) and 1 (Oneness with Jesus) – hundreds have been inspired and equipped to carry this good news into their everyday lives.

Speak Life DailyFor decades we have been publishing our International Daily Prayer Bulletin, collecting together inspiring stories of gospel advance around the world. This bulletin – now known as the Speak Life Daily – is eagerly received by about 5000 people across the world and inspires prayer for the global church and its mission.

PRAYER CENTREAlthough our mission is nationwide we cannot ignore our home town. Situated in the heart of Eastbourne, our offices are known locally as ‘The Prayer Centre.’ We are a hub of activity,prayer and training for the Christian community.

LOVE AFRICAGrowing out of our radio ministry to Southern Africa we have developed relationships with evangelists in Malawi, Kenya and Uganda. Since 2007 we have been supporting four evangelists out of our tithe and we also run a child sponsorship scheme for the Maoni orphanage in southern Malawi. Get in touch to see how you can support.

TOGETHER OUR VISION IS:• to champion Christ-centred evangelism in the UK and beyond,• to raise up a new generation of witnesses for Christ,• to equip the church with world-class evangelistic resources, and• to see millions reached and thousands transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In particular we want to pioneer evangelism that is theologically-rich but also simply and attractively communicated. There are two projects in particular which we think will achieve our aims.

NEW RESOURCESWe have trialled our video-led evangelistic course (321) with around 20 churches, we are ready to invest in a high quality version of the course. We have an exceptional video-making team with a proven track record. We also have a gospel presentation with global appeal. We feel 321, the course, could have a major impact around the world.

EVANGELISM APPRENTICESHIPSWhen online videos are shared widely we talk about them ‘going viral’. Actually it’s people who go viral. When we invest in deep, life-on-life discipleship, that’s when we see movements really multiplying.

We want to offer two-year apprenticeships, involving intensive training and practical experience for young evangelists. Apprentices would receive hands-on experience of proclamation evangelism and accredited theological training but they would also be grounded and serve in a local church. Opportunities to train as an evangelist are few and far between in this country but we feel we could offer an invaluable experience.

WHERE WE’RE GOING

As we move forwards, we are very aware that we need to do so together. In his letter to the Philippians, Paul addresses them as ‘partners in the gospel’ (Philippians 1:5). ‘Partners’ is the word used of Peter, James and John in their fishing business (Luke 5:10). It speaks of solidarity, life-sharing and investment – in every sense of that word. As we seek to be ‘fishers of men’ we’re also seeking ‘partners’ in this work.

We would love to update you regularly of our work and our prayer needs. For one thing, Glen is preaching multiple times each week and we long for a spiritual harvest each time the word is proclaimed. Can we have your contact details, but far more importantly, can we have your prayers?

We also need your help financially with the work ahead of us. In addition to the salaries that keep our little team going, we have two major projects in the pipeline. Our proposed resources and apprenticeships will cost many tens of thousands of pounds (breakdowns of costs are available on request).
