The Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) is a not for profit organisation made up of student volunteers who seek to develop a culture of philanthropy throughout Bond University and promote an appreciation of the support that private donations and selfless donations of time provide our University and community.

The SPC aims to connect with alumni, students, staff and industry professionals to generate funds that will be directly invested for the benefit of the student body.

The main way in which we raise funds is through the sale of Bond University merchandise such as hoodies, t- shirts, bags, as well as a range of corporate gifts. The profits from these sales, which currently stand in excess of $25,000 per semester, are then re-invested back into the Bond community through capital works and student support programs. We aim to offer students, staff, alumni and the community a high quality, but affordable product that they will have to enjoy for many years to come.

The SPC has recently been allocated a shopfront on campus for the merchandise program – which allows the SPC to further expand our merchandise range, and in turn, the level of assistance we can provide to the student body. Orders can also be placed at www.bondspc.com.au.

The SPC further aims to promote philanthropy through our volunteering programs that are run weekly throughout the university calendar year. These include tutoring and homework help programs at local schools and divisional activities at aged care facilities around Bond. The SPC also runs one off volunteering missions, and will be expanding its volunteering arm by working with Gold Coast Youth Centre in the near future. Our annual social justice trip to Kununurra, a Western Australian indigenous community is also of high importance for the SPC.

Further, the SPC, in conjunction with Bond University will be facilitating the graduating gift program in 2013 to allow graduating students the opportunity to make their final contribution to the university as a student and their first as an alumnus simultaneously.

Over the coming months the SPC will release updates on a range of new philanthropic projects it is leading, which are aimed at widening the awareness and value of philanthropy at Bond University.
