SPATIAL JUSTICE thesis award http://spatialjustice.net The MegaCities Foundation is temporarily closing its doors. The Foundation leaves a large legacy of academic production and an amount for the institution of a prize. The Group of Spatial Planning and Strategy of the TU Delft, together with the Foundation, is launching the ‘Spatial Justice Thesis Award’. It rewards graduation theses written in Dutch institutions in the areas of Urbanism, Spatial Planning, Urban Design and other disciplines concerned with the built environment. The awarded thesis must show a central concern with issues of Spatial Justice, Governance, Participation and Democracy and must demonstrate academic excellence, as well as indicate the applicability of concepts in practice. SPATIAL JUSTICE is a framework that informs and enables ACTIONS to improve our cities and make them more liveable and socially sustainable. SPATIAL JUSTICE refers to the promotion of access to public goods, basic services, culture, economic opportunity and healthy environments through fair and inclusive spatial planning and management of urban and rural spaces and resources. This is crucial in order to promote more equitable and fair societies and to promote the full realization of human potentials. We are looking for outstanding Master graduation theses, written at Dutch institutions (in English), which contemplate aspects of justice, democracy building and participa- tion in urban development studies and design. These may include theses developed in spatial planning, urban design, environmental technology, landscape architecture, urbanism, and other fields of knowledge that are concerned with the built environment and urban development. The specificity of this prize concerns its focus on SPATIAL JUSTICE, democracy and participation as key concepts in urban development and management. The prize consists of €300 in cash, plus a TU Delft publication. The winner will be awarded a certificate by the chair of Spatial Planning and Strategy of the TU Delft.
