What mail can be sent where as a result of COVID-19?

The Mail team at Spatial Global are activelymonitoring this rapidly evolving situation. There are some delays or suspension ofinternational deliveries to and from dozens ofcountries due to flight cancellations andactions by foreign governments. But if you areunsure it's easy to get up to date informationfrom one of the mail team via the website viathe contact us section or call us.

The exchange of physical goods duringlockdown has been largely reliant on thePostal services

During the spring lockdown, many peoplerelied on the postal services to deliver theironline purchases. Which is why national postalservices suddenly found themselves on the listof 'critical infrastructure' and declared 'keyworkers'. With COVID-19 shutting downworkplaces and putting entire business sectorsinto stand-by, governments across the worldstrained to keep trade flowing and economieson their feet. With the ease of lockdownrestrictions, things look like they are slowlyreturning to some form of normality.

A squeeze on capacity, a spike in demand, and shortage of PPE – theperfect storm. However despite market rates rocketing, Spatial Globalkept our fees super low to help the NHS.

Importing PPE for the NHSat the height of the crisis

When longstanding NHS providers need help in gettingproduct into the UKSpatial Global was called upon to help several key suppliers to the NHS. Each had asimilar challenge, getting product from an overseas manufacturer, into the NHSsupply chain. As a consequence of our intervention, each one had a successful resultand vital products were able to enter the NHS supply chain at the height of the crisis.

Collaboration and a trusted networkwas keyThe supplies including ventilators, PPE, dialysisequipment, and other critical inventory, werebeing imported from a variety of differentlocations. But one size doesn't fit all when itcomes to freight forwarding in the present crisis. The final solutions were arrived at through acombination of expert 'logistical and freightforwarding' interventions. This innovativecollaboration involved project teamsrepresenting the NHS suppliers, theirmanufacturers, a network of local agents andthe airfreight companies – all working withSpatial Global as the coordinator.

Whatever your international supply chainneeds, it pays to work with expertsSome of the NHS supply chain contractsgained were through existing clients who hadsimply needed to increase their volumes. Butmany were through organisations who wereunable to ship their products because of thechanging market place. Experts in freightforwarding and logistics will have theknowledge, experience and contacts toprovide shipping solutions. They will knowwhat areas to explore when it comes to beinginnovative and creative, they understand thechanges and can help manufacturers - andthe supply chain - adapt and respond to thisdynamic global crisis.

The book is a photographic, cyberpunk-inspired exploration of nocturnal Tokyoby Liam Wong, and is published by Thames & Hudson, with global mailing fulfilledby Spatial Global.

Evapo do their bit toaid public healthduring the crisisSmoking probably puts you at greater riskof coronavirus, not less. Recent studiessuggest that one of the best steps peoplecan take to protect themselves is to quitsmoking - an Evapo have launched a#QuitForCovid campaign andwww.todayistheday.co.uk website tosupport people wanting to quit.

Aiming to become the largest vape retailerInitially purely an online vape shop, Evaporapidly expanded, opening physical retailstores in the south of England. With over35 stores in the UK, plus one in Gibraltarand increasing ecommerce sales, Evaposoon found they were managing 112,000items and over 1000 product lines – andneeded expert help.

Spatial Global were able to provide acustomised fulfillment and warehousingservice, which includes managing theirstock profiles and distributing the Evapoproducts. This includes their retail networkstock replenishment in the UK andGibraltar, plus fulfilling their ecommercemarket, which continues to expand.

The #QuitForCovid campaign isoffering support to those kicking thehabit at this difficult timeEvidence accumulated since the beginningof the pandemic, combined with existingknowledge of viruses and the implications ofsmoking, suggests that smokers whocontract COVID-19 are at risk of greaterdisease severity.

Exporting Challengesof Low Cost ItemsWhen a company wins The QueensAward for Enterprise: International Trade, you know they have a quality product, sowhen Spatial Global were approached tohelp in providing help exporting their lowcost storage solutions they were happyto accept the challenge.

Maximising the space was keyAs manufacturers of a large range ofrobust and attractive plastic storageboxes for the home and office, thebusiness wasn't new to exporting. However, they did need to find abetter, more cost effective way toexport their products. With anystorage product, you typically havethe challenge of maximising theshipment as you can be paying forexporting fresh air - literally!

With tight margins you need tomanage costsFinding cost effective shipping routes isabout understanding the drivers and it'stypically about time, weight and route. With light weight products, like plasticstorage boxes, it's then aboutoptimising the container throughcarefully planning the loading. This thencreates the challenge of orders andfrequency of replenishment. Workingwith the Spatial Global freight team theclient was able to choose from severalpotential routes, offering differentdelivery timescales.

Blade Runner InspiredLiam Wong was born and raised in Scotland, but moved to Canada to become theyoungest director at Ubisoft, the video gamescompany behind Assassin’s Creed. Hestarted teaching himself photography whenhis job took him to Tokyo for the first time.Mainly his images were taken at the regulartourist spots until one evening he took one ofa taxi driver waiting for his passengers. Thecomposition reminded him of thecinematography he loved and captured thelook of his favourite movies. With only a fewsocial media followers he was surprised whenhis photo-post of the taxi driver created sucha buzz. Encouraged by this feedback, hefocused on taking and posting more imageslike this Blade Runner-esk composition.

100,000's of followers globally meanshis books are highly sought afterHis debut photo series: 'Tokyo Nights(TO:KY:OO)’ - capturing the beauty of nightthrough moments after midnight - gainedover a million views worldwide, accumulating a following online andkickstarting his journey into photography.

Wong has since collaborated with manyhigh profile companies, artists, musiciansand directors. In 2017 he was listed as oneof Forbes magazine's influential 30 Under 30.Liam Wong is an award-winning art director, and is now based in Japan. With 204.6k followers onInstagram and 135.7K followers on Twitter,he has a strong following and as a result iswork is highly sought after.

The challenges of mail fulfillment withsomething so preciousWhen fans of Liam Wong's order a bookonline they want it to arrive in pristinecondition, after all it is a prized possession. However, sending anything through the mailwhich involves several carriers, multiplemodes of transport and several handlingsystems, means it needs greater than normalprotection. Which is why at Spatial Global,we've developed a unique packagingprocess to ensure the book arrives just as itleft our warehouse - in perfect condition.
