What lures you to the art of fashion?
I inherited my ashion air rom my amily. My
ather, in his younger years, was a men’s tailor
and my grandmother was a ashion enthusiast.
I, too, ound my orte expressing mysel through
ashion design.
What inspires you?My previous collections were inspired by my
eelings, antasies, tears and dreams. A good
book can inspire me, a song, a trip, a character
... or a woman. I believe inspiration is not the
most important thing, but what you do with
it – how you use your inspiration to create.
What dierentiates every designer is the ability
to translate inspiration into shapes, colours
and textures in order or the general audience
to recognise it and see it reected in theirclothing.
Tell us about your work...
There are two dierent aspects to my work –
creating catwalk collections and working on
personalised high ashion dresses. For the frst,
pret a porter, I’ve previously explored emininity
and women’s intelligence. Once I know my
inspiration, I translate it into textiles, shapes,
volumes. Music is very important to me, I cannot
create without it – I gather many ideas rom
specifc melodies and rhythms. The second ocus
is personalised high ashion; I gather inspirationrom the ladies who visit my atelier. I need to
know how my client thinks, what she needs to
express, how she wants to look... With all this
data plus a morphologic study I create a small
collection o designs rom which she can choose
that which reect her emotions. With all this
inormation I go back to my atelier which is more
like my “textile lab”; I select high quality textiles,
textures, and stunning embroidery and work or
many hours, playing music in a great ambience tomake many women’s dreams come true!
You’ll soon be holding a fancy event at the W
Hotel; why Doha?
Qatar has become an avant garde country
striking the perect balance between modernity
and tradition. My curiosity, love o travel and
eagerness to learn about dierent countries,
history, culture and customs has enticed me. It
will be my frst time in Doha and I will travel
with an empty “soul” ready to enrich mysel
with dierent eelings and sensations.
What problems do you think the fashion
indury is facing?
The last decade has seen the rise o “ashion
democratisation” where many brands oer
cheap clothing to the public. This is good in a
way as it makes design more accessible, but
sometimes I think we need to go back to old
school ways - designers need to get back the
essence o art, modernise and renew it. They
need to provide ashion with soul which is
sometimes a challenge.
What has been your career highlight?
During Madrid Fashion Week, I received the
best designer and best collection awards – as
well as the award o excellence and best designerin the country. I look orward to developing a
proessional international brand and creating a
runway with soul.
