Total Produce Sourcing Spain has changed ad-dress and contact details. From 30th of August 2009 we have moved into larger spaces. This has been necessary in order for us to be able to ac-commodate the increas-ing number of employees in the company and not least bearing in mind the future incorporations of associates and partners within the Total Produce group.

The location of Puzol we have found to be impor-tant. We are in the same neighbourhood as trading companies such as Dai Fruit, Hispafruit or San Lucar just on the A7

highway north of Valencia where 95% of all our trucks passes by.

We are in the centre of the valencian citrus in-dustry with less than 2 hours to the important vegetable area of Murcia or 2 hours from Lerida where most Spanish pears, apples and stone fruits are grown. Add to that our 2 satellite of-fices in Anda-lucia in South-ern Spain, which place

Supermarket, and then the value of these grapes diminish and is being sold on open markets. Furthermore, of i.e Crimson that nor-mally would have more than 2 months left of season we calculate there is no more than 5 to 6 weeks left, so there is no hurry for serious growers that has not been affected to sell their crimson, and hence they main-tain prices although the market might indicate otherwise.

Kaki:

We are getting near the beginning of a new sea-son of Kaki and Persi-mon in Huelva and Va-lencia. Concerning Huelva the quality is very good and sizes similar of that of 2 sea-sons ago, since they were rather small last year.

In Valencia, there has been spotted some of the fungus we also saw last year which from 1 day to another created a disastrous season when up to 40% fell down the trees almost overnight. Apparantly it was thought that the reason for the fungus was extreme humidity and since we have had a very dry summer no one expected to see the fungus again.

Information

Apples:

Granny and Gala from Northern Spain

Corn:

Surprising good quality of Spanish corn.

Cucumber:

first new harvest has been offered.

Grapes:

There are 2 qualities of grapes on the market and hence 2 different market prices to be aware of. The heavy hail one and a half week ago destroyed many grape fields in certain areas of Murcia. In order to try and commercialize the grapes it has been nec-essary to make cut of many grapes from the clusters and the result is a product not apt for the most demanding

Lemon:

We are sensing a false eufori amongst the lemon growers in Murcia who after a terrrible season are due to high demand are asking extremely high prices for the lemon not sold yet in programs to supermarkets – further the quality is very poor. But only within two weeks the new Turkish season will start and then the reality will again hit the specula-tive growers, and they will have nowhere to send their produce, and when new crop begin in October of Primofiori the reality will hit those growers who got a little too greedy these few weeks….Prices in Sct. Charles Perpignan were 1.80 € kg this week !!!!!!

Mango:

Few kgs of Tommy At-kins available, and soon the delicious Osteen will be available.

Melons:

With 10 days left of sea-son of melons we are experiencing huge prob-lems in finding the right sizes. Most in small and very large sizes and lesser in the medium range. Prices has rised considerably particulary with the Cantaloup fol-lowed by Piel de Sapo, honeydew and finally galia. It’s a little help to growers who have suf-fered a terrible season, but far from enough to get near a decent sea-son result.

Oranges:

Not much going on in the fields. There should be some activity since the coming season is near, but it seems the global crisis creates cer-tain caution amongst the private exporters so the situation is rather quiet compared to how close we are to the new sea-son. In 2 weeks they will start to cut the first Sat-sumas and beside from this variety the calm in the sector is total.

Tomatoes:

Enough cherry and plum cherry, but huge problems in getting quantities of yellow so very few trimix avail-able and high prices.

Watermelon:

Few kgs available in assorted sizes with high prices, which leads to the conclusion that sea-son has endend

Plums:

First Angeleno were scheduled to be picked this week. Prices went slightly up last week, and it seems it goes hand in hand with the quality which lately has been better. We have experienced some sick-ness in the Black Dia-monds causing some trouble, but in other va-rieties there has been few problems. Sun Gold, Fortuna, Larry Ann, Black Late and other varieties available and quantities are no prob-lem.

Pomegranade:

Some Valenciana avail-able, but it is the new crop of the nice coloured Mollar variety we are waiting for. Should be available within the next 2 weels.

Rasperries:

Few kgs available for the varieties Rubi, Heritage and Polka. In 1 week the variety Glen Lyon will be available until end of season, which is app the first week of October. In Huelva new crop of Bril-liant and Sugana will be available from the 1st

week of October.
