Weather meeting someone for the first time or saying hello to someone you see often, in Spanish-speaking countries greetings are very

important.

Tú is a familiar way to say you.

Usted is a formal way to say you.

Sr. Estrada greets Alma by saying:

-¡Alma! ¿Cómo estás hoy? -How are you today?

If Alma had spoken first, she might have said:

-¡Senor Estrada! ¿Cómo está usted?
