Program Overview For entering 6th grade students in fall 2017 Serving three regional cohorts in San Francisco, the East Bay and the South Peninsula Will guide your child’s entry into Jewish adulthood through retreats, activity-based classes, nature excursions, family gatherings and more. Participants will take part in: ° Experiential learning that incorporates social justice themes, out door education and leadership development. ° Exploration of Jewish values, prayers and Torah through seven kitot (classes) per year. ° Three Tawonga-style overnight retreats per year. ° Family programming like Shabbat gatherings and hikes that build community. ° Mentorship and guidance throughout program, including torah exploration and Mitzvah Project. Now Enrolling Our Second Year of Students for Fall 2017 Camp Tawonga is offering a two-year alternative bar and bat mitzvah program in the Bay Area that will provide families the opportunity to take part in our deeply resonant individualized approach to Judaism. Approach and Philosophy Through a multi-layered approach to exploring Jewish adulthood, participants will have the opportunity to discover what it means to them to be an adult – and what it means to be a Jewish adult; determine what responsibilities come with adulthood; envision and create what their bar or bat service will look like; decide on a mitzvah project that enables them to give back to the community; and begin to understand the beauty and importance of being a part of a global Jewish family. - Kim H., parent
