1-ROLE OF FFG-ALR
• Is the Austrian Aeronautics and Space Agency (Agentur fürLuft- und Raumfahrt, ALR)
• Part of FFG: Austrian Research Promotion Agency, the funding agency for applied research (460 M€ funding in 2014, without ESA)
• Manages and coordinate for the BMVIT (Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology) the Space activities in Austria:• The ESA activities• Eumetsat• The national Space programme ASAP
• Participate with national delegates to the ESA programme boards, deciding the ESA activities
(Prof. W. Baumjohann/ IWF is also delegate to SPC)

• Mix of missions: L (1050 M€), M (550 M€), S (50 M€), Missions of Opportunity (50 M€)
• Mandatory ESA programme, each member state funds acc.to GNP, Austria (AT)= 2,23 %
• Part of level of ressources, decided at ESA Councils at Ministerial Level (CMINs), (usually every 3 years, last Dec. 2014, next: Dec. 2016), overall amount is defined at CMIN
• AT Subscription at CMIN 2012 • Funds:

• Typical AT industry activities funded by ESA budget:• Ruag: main player: data processing electronics,
Multi Layer Insulation (MLI), Mechanical Ground SupportEquipments (MGSEs), mechanisms
• Siemens: Electrical Ground Support Equipments(EGSEs): RF Special Check-Out Equipments (SCOEs), Power SCOEs, RF Suitcases
• Magna: occasionally: Thermal Louvres (Rosetta), Caging mechanism (Lisa PF)
• In general: slight under-return (as most of smaller MS)
• Instruments and scientific activities (scientific studies, modelling) must be funded nationally• In AT: e.g. PRODEX, ASAP
