SP15-1

This document serves a broad range of information needs with the objective of improving quality, safety, and economy in all types of formwork. For the experienced designer or builder of formwork, it is a readyreference on material properties, design data, and construction suggestions. For the architect or engineer,it adds guidance relating to structural design details and the problems and possibilities of executing themin formwork. For the novice, the book explains basic design principles and provides an introduction tomany common formwork practices. This edition includes new material on single-sided wall forms, insu-lating concrete forms, pressure formulas with coefficients for differing weights and mix chemistries, inflated forming methods, and expanded text on multistory shoring systems.

The seventh edition, as all previous editions, follows the most recent guidelines established by ACICommittee 347 and documented in the official committee report, now ACI 347-04, which is reprinted infull in the appendix. This new edition considers the effects of the weight and chemistry coefficients nowprovided by ACI 347 to determine lateral pressure for form design, and also reflects the latest changes inwood design recommendations of the National Forest and Paper Association. The recent recommendationsof other ACI committees have also been considered in text revisions, as well as a number of formworkindustry products and practices adopted since the last edition was published.

Keywords: architectural concrete; construction materials; falsework; folded plate; formwork(construction); mass concrete; precast concrete; prestressed concrete; quality control; reinforcedconcrete; shells (structural forms); tunnels.
