Dear Readers,Its finally June and what a month it will turn out to be. Our country has been preparing for this historic occasion for months, even years so that local communities can come together and celebrate

Her Majesty The Queens Diamond Jubilee and 60 years on the throne. There will be street parties, concerts, fireworks, music, and so much more. Its a time to rejoice and be part of this unique and unforgettable period in history.

We have a variety of Jubilee events on our special Whats On pages this month but there will be lots more happening where you live. Village noticeboards are also a good place to look if youre still undecided on what youd like to do.

Bassets Estate Agents have had reason to celebrate recently too having won a National Award voted for by the public. Its a fantastic achievement and you can read more about it on page 6.

Dont forget that Wimbledon starts this month too which means long hours spent sat in front of the television doing NOTHING..... bliss!

Have a fantastic month - until next time....

  • When Michelle Silvester decided to leave her managerial position with the Halifax, she was taking a huge risk. Her career dream, however, had long been to combine her passion for animals with her love of the outdoors. Hence, with the support and backing of her family, LeoBo Pet Daycare Solutions (LeoBo) was born.

Michelle has always owned a variety of animals - her current menagerie includes 3 kittens, a rabbit, a budgie and a variety of cold water fish. Indeed the trading name LeoBo stems from a combination of the names of her first 2 cats, Leo and Bo who, under Michelles loving and devoted care achieved the astounding ages of 21 and 16 respectively; this being despite Bo needing daily insulin injections for diabetes.

Much as it is a labour of love, LeoBo is not merely a hobby. Michelle has used her years of business experience to run the service with an efficiency that dispels any worries her clients may have about leaving their beloved pets in her care.

Firstly Michelle set out to study for a Diploma in Animal Care which she passed with Distinction. She is also a qualified Canine and Feline First Aider and an ABC Accredited Canine Hydrotherapist.

Secondly, Michelle designed pricing schedules and service contracts so that her clients know exactly what they can expect, and when, from LeoBo.

Michelle has public liability insurance with NARP (National Association of Registered Pet Sitters) which ensures that she operates within a code of conduct and

also covers loss, damage or bodily injury to third parties of up to 5 million and cover in respect of injury, death or treatment requirements of up to 5,000 per animal for the animals in her care.

Founded in 2008, LeoBos reputation has spread and Michelle now employs 2 further staff members to help her with the animals. All are like minded individuals with animal welfare as their core priority; all are police checked and covered by LeoBos comprehensive insurance and professional standards. The team consists of Michelle, Kim, who is currently studying a Diploma in Animal Care and having recently covered maternity leave at the Newton Tony Dogs Trust and having worked with her mum who runs the Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital is more than qualified to work with animals and David - the latest recruit, an ex-military dog handler and also a volunteer dog walker at the Dogs Trust.

Details of the dog walking and pet sitting services provided in Salisbury are as follows, and can be tailored to a clients exact requirements; dog walking, canine hydrotherapy (at a centre in Newbury), cat daily feeding, rabbit & guinea pig daily feeding, bird, hamster, mouse, reptile & amphibian daily feeding.

LeoBo believe that your pets deserve the best and therefore will only take your dog(s) out on a one-to-one basis; they will never be mixed with other customers dogs.

    For one-to-one dog walking, clients can choose from 60 mins, 45 mins or 30 mins. The service includes;

ensuring water is replaced with fresh water upon return, cleaning up any accidents, home security check, bringing in the post, administering medication and daily recording of your pets activities.

Having always owned cats, Michelle knows how stressful it can be, both for you and for them, when leaving them in a cattery; You spend your whole holiday worrying whether they have settled in yet - theres no place like home! LeoBo visits your cat in its own home thereby minimising the stress plus your cat will receive loads of cuddles to reassure them that all is ok. For this service clients can choose from 1 visit a day of 20 minutes or 2 daily visits totalling 40 minutes.

LeoBo also provides Hydrotherapy through their Top Dog centre in Newbury. Hydrotherapy is gentle exercise

in water heated between 26 and 300c, with a skilled qualified therapist. As water is used it provides stress free support to muscles and joints yet it is more intensive exercise than in air.

A dog will lose muscle 3 days post-operative. It is therefore a good idea to treat dogs pre-op to build up muscle in advance as post-op it will be at least 10-15 days before they are able to do hydrotherapy and recovery could, therefore, be much slower.

Various non-operative conditions also benefit from hydrotherapy and, as pet insurers now recognise hydrotherapy as a complimentary

therapy, the cost of the initial treatment should be covered by most good policies.

For a FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION and more information on the various services available, please contact Michelle on 07888 742851.

  • The awards were announced by Phil Spencer, the TV property expert at a lavish luncheon & ceremony at the Hilton Park Lane London attended by 550 of the UKs top estate and letting agents.

Phil Spencer said The ESTAS are the most important and valuable awards in our industry. To win a national award requires a lot of hard work and total dedication over a very long period of time.

The results of the competition were determined by research carried out amongst customers who are asked a series of questions about the service they have received from their agent. Over 450 estate agents entered and over 33,000 votes were received making it the biggest consumer survey of its kind in the property industry.

David Clayton, Managing Director of Bassets, told us Being voted second best estate agent across the whole of the UK is a fantastic achievement and very fitting given that it is our 10th Anniversary this year. This award means so much because it is our clients who have rated us not a judging panel. We pride ourselves on providing exceptional levels of customer service and, as this award shows, we are clearly getting it right!

    Have a BIG Lunch!

The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

Last year on Sunday 5th June the best part of two million people took part in The Big Lunch. In 2012 The Big Lunch falls on the same weekend as The Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 3rd June and as announced by Buckingham Palace The Big Jubilee Lunch will be a part of the main programme of events over the central weekend of

  • the Diamond Jubilee. A record number of people are expected to take part. Why not be one of them!

A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full blown street party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic.

TV and radio celebrities and top chefs from all around the UK are getting behind The Big Lunch initiative and have included Carol Smillie, Lynda Bellingham, Boris Johnson, Barbara Windsor, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and James Martin.

This year The Trussell Trust in Salisbury are working together with the Big Lunch team to encourage people in and around Salisbury to hold Big Lunches and ask everyone to Bring a Tin for their nearest foodbank too.

Why not get involved and host your own Big Lunch on 3rd June to celebrate the Queens Jubilee? Its a brilliant way to get your street together to share food, have fun and help foodbanks too! You could even do a bit of fundraising... To find out more visit www.trusselltrust.org/big-lunch or www.thebiglunch.com. You can also email [email protected] or call 01722 411244.

Make a Weekend of it!Churches across Salisbury have teamed up to host a weekend of special events to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee.

The Big Jubilee Weekend, which is being organised by 22 churches throughout the city, will involve a party hosted by the Bishop of Salisbury, a lunch aimed at bringing neighbours and communities together, and a community day of action, helping residents with painting and decorating, gardening or cleaning.

The day of action will see more than 300 people from local churches going out in teams on Saturday, June 2, to help the elderly to the disabled, while in the evening the Bishop of Salisbury, Nicholas Holtam, will host a party in the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral School with live music and a barbecue.

And on Sunday, June 3, churches all over the city will host Big Lunches (see Have a BIG Lunch!). For more information on Salisburys weekend of events email [email protected] or visit thebiglunch.com.

This year alone Marie Curies local nurses will look to provide free care and support to 141 terminally ill patients and their families in Wiltshire yet there are more and more who need this support.

  • A great tan is essential for summer. We all know however that spending hours soaking up the suns rays is a definite no-no. Its no surprise then that more and more of us are opting for the safe option and getting a golden glow courtesy of one of the many at home fake tanners that are on the market.

Its not always easy to achieve the results youd hoped for though - most people have an orange disaster tale to tell. Thats why weve compiled a definitive guide to fake tanning. Its just in time to help you look beach-ready and gorgeous and it goes a long way to prove that with careful preparation, the right products and an hour of your time, you can successfully be transformed into a bronzed goddess.

step one - the right productIf youre new to self-tanning or have pale skin, its a good idea to start with a gradual tanning product. The result is fairly subtle which means its forgiving of

beginners mistakes and it also allows you to achieve the depth of colour you want gradually.

step two - PlanningConsider where you will be applying your tan. The bathroom is the obvious choice, but not necessarily the best. Ideally you need a fair amount of space, a full length mirror and lots of natural light. Allow plenty of time and dont be tempted to rush.

step three - ExfoliateThe most important stage of the process is preparation. Your skin is the canvas on which the fake tan product will be applied and it needs to be as even and smooth as possible.

Exfoliation is integral for establishing the right base. Its best done the night before, as it allows the skin to settle overnight. If youre going to wax your legs, then make sure you allow 24 hours between waxing and

tanning to avoid dark dots that emerge as a result of the product building up in open follicles. Thoroughly removing dead skin cells will allow for an even base on which to apply the tan.

step Four - MoisturiseMoisturising is essential. Be incredibly generous with your moisturiser and ensure that its fragrance and colour free, as some varieties can affect the result of the tan. Pay particular attention to troublesome areas. Knees, ankles, elbows and wrists are generally drier and will soak up the tanning product if not properly moisturized, resulting in a patchy finish.

step Five - ApplyWhen applying the tan its a good idea to wear latex gloves. Work quickly but carefully, starting with your feet and methodically covering every inch of your skin evenly. Dont forget to include your armpits, toes and backs of your ankles.

step six - Dont forget handsOnce you have tanned your entire body, remove your gloves and thoroughly moisturise your hands, working the cream into nails, knuckles and wrists. Apply a dot of fake tan to the back of one hand and rub it against the other, working up past the wrists.

step seven - Leave to dryDrying times vary from product to product - mousses tend to work faster than creams or lotions. Whichever you use, its imperative that you allow it to dry on the skin fully. Speed up the process with a cool blast of air from your hairdryer. When you do dress, choose loose fitting clothes and keep away from water for at least six hours.

Add the vegetable mix, cutting anything large like carrots, to match the size of the other vegetables. Stir for a minute or so, pour in the stock and lemon juice and add the zest. Season, then cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Spoon in the creme fraiche and dill and cook for another 3-4 minutes.

Heat another frying pan with the olive oil. Slice the mackerel fillet in half lengthways, taking out any bones you may find. Season the fish then pan-fry for 2 minutes on each side.

Serve the mackerel on a bed of the vegetables with plenty of lemon wedges and some new potatoes.

Width is the crucial issue in hallways, and unless youre prepared to do some substantial building work and remove a wall, youre probably stuck with what you have. To increase the feeling of space in a narrow hallway, use pale colours and add large mirrors (ideal for checking your reflection just before you leave the house, too). Keep the space as clear as possible by adding only the most essential items of slender storage furniture, and using the full height of your walls rather than encroaching on floor space. If, on the other hand, you have a large and spacious hallway lucky you! Think of it as an extra living space and make the most of it by adding a sofa or chairs, bookcases or a writing desk. For plenty of inspirational ideas, see Hallways, Corridors and Staircases by Leslie Geddes-Brown, with fabulous photography by Christopher Drake (Ryland, Peters & Small, 25). Whatever the size of your hall, consider it as a linking room and make sure your choice of decorative schemes works well when doorways to other rooms are open. If you have chosen a pale colour scheme for the walls, woodwork could be slightly darker for interest. Halls that see a lot of wear and tear could be painted with an extra-tough paint, or clad with tongue-and-groove panelling, tiles or hard-wearing wallpaper.

    Fabulous flooring

Halls and stairs are high-traffic areas, so ensure that your flooring is non-slip, durable, resistant to dirt and simple to clean if you can mop it, so much the better. Stone, ceramic or quarry tiles, or colourful Victorian encaustic tiles, are all easy to care for, while solid wooden boards or parquet require only some regular polishing or waxing. Cheap wood laminates may not last too long in such a well-used space. Lino or vinyl can look impressive, too, especially when laid in patterns. Carpet, however, is more problematic as youll need to choose a colour or pattern that wont show the dirt and make sure that it is suitable for a hallway: an 80:20 twist classified for heavy domestic use is often the best.

    Cosy and bright

Under-floor heating is ideal for narrow halls, but do check that it will be compatible with your flooring. On the other hand, if theres room, you could opt for eye-catching radiators, perhaps a period-style cast-iron column or an eye-catching modern type. Hall lighting doesnt need to be bright enough for reading, but it should be welcoming and lead the eye into your home: it could be an amazing chandelier (given high enough ceilings) or

Making An EntranceA hallway is like a handshake: the introduction to your home, creating a look and feel that should be both attractive and welcoming, as well as providing useful storage, explains Katherine sorrell.

a series of recessed ceiling downlights. In a narrow hall, avoid wall lights they will just act as obstacles.

    storage

Most people store a variety of things in their halls, from coats, scarves and hats to phone books, buggies or vacuum cleaners. The type of storage you choose is always best moulded around what you need to store, how much space it will take and how frequently you need to access it. The main choice is between built-in, hidden storage or open, display-type storage. The former is best when space is tight slender floor-to-ceiling cupboards with plain doors, (perhaps painted the same colour as the walls, or even mirrored to maximise light) ranked along one wall, will hold masses yet be hardly noticeable. On the other hand, you could make a statement with an eclectic selection of free-standing cupboards, sideboards, tables, benches, dressers, baskets, shelves and so on. If necessary, fit hooks or pulleys high up on walls to hold

bikes, and perhaps a coat stand or row of pegs for everyday coats and bags. Umbrella stands and boot racks are ideal for spacious, country-style halls. Somewhere to keep post and keys is a good idea, too, whether a bowl and rack on a dresser or a small, wall-mounted cupboard and set of hooks. If you have lots of books or delicate items to display, a shelf running the length of the hallway above head height can be extremely useful. For times when space is really hard to find, it is even possible to build storage drawers into the treads of a wooden staircase.

Benjamin Grosvenor, the outstanding 19-year-old pianist who played at the First Night of the BBC Proms last year in a sold-out Royal Albert Hall, has been confirmed as one of the headline performers appearing at this years Farley Music Festival. Recently listed in the Daily Telegraphs Top 10 Britons of 2011

(in the company of Adele, the Duke of Edinburgh and David Cameron), Benjamin has already been featured in two BBC television documentaries and has played in the

USA, Singapore, Japan and Germany in performances that have been broadcast widely around the world.

Running across five evenings from 19th to 23rd June, this years Farley Music Festival also features local favourite Philip Lawson, who retired as senior baritone and principal arranger from the Kings Singers in February this year. Philip will be performing in the Festivals Jubilee-themed closing concert, along with Audrey Palmer, who has sung Mother Abbess in the Sound of Music in the West End. International opera singer Simon McEnery will direct this special

evening which celebrates British music from opera to musicals, oratorio to popular song, Purcell to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Handel to Coward.

Elsewhere in the just-announced programme is a mid-summer-themed evening of Mozart and English music for which the musicians include Andrew Wickens (clarinet, baritone, bass), the vicar best known for being series consultant to Rev, the highly acclaimed BAFTA-winning BBC2 comedy series.

This will be the 11th season of Farley Music which was originally conceived to give concert experience to promising young musicians as well as to generate much-needed income to support the charming Wren-style church in Farley. Over recent years the musical scope of the Farley Music Festival has been widened, but this years programme still includes solo piano performances from two brilliant young Royal Academy of Music students Karim Said (Jordan) and Aya Kawabata (Japan) as well as the headline-grabbing Benjamin Grosvenor.

This years Farley Music Festival runs from 19th 23rd June and all the concerts all take place in All Saints Church, Farley. Tickets are available from the Salisbury Playhouse (priced 15) or via [email protected].

  • Here Comes The GrillsSome of the most useful gadgets are the simplest. Frosty Ice Tankards (5.95 each) are ideal for keeping beer cold on warm days: simply keep them in the freezer until its time for a can and theyll keep it nice and frosty. Dedicated wine coolers will do the same for your Chenin Blanc.

While your guests enjoy their drinks, you can give them something to look at too. Strings of while, blue or multi-coloured LED lights cost around 20 for a walls worth, and as theyre solar powered theres no need to run electrical cables or worry about the electricity bill. Youll find an enormous range of solar lights from deck lights (15 for four) and post lights (around 15 for ten) to lanterns (9 for ten), coach lamps (11 for two), colour changing table lights (15 for one) and faintly horrible illuminated animals, fairies and insects.

This being Britain, the evenings cool down quickly, so inevitably there are stacks of patio heaters to choose from, including wall-mounted halogen heaters (around 180), free-standing electric

patio heaters (from around 35) and free-standing gas ones (99+). Or you could just buy a charcoal kettle barbecue

and huddle around that when youve finished cooking.

Did someone say cooking? Gadgets can help with that too. If

youre fed up with the taste of lighter fuel, persuade the cook to invest in a Chimney Starter (about 15) instead. Using nothing more than two sheets of newspaper, it makes lighting charcoal barbecues a doddle. A digital thermometer is a good idea too, as it can solve the burnt outside, raw inside problem that can affect some barbecued food. Good ones from Weber cost around

15, while wireless ones (about 38) will alert you when your food has reached the right temperature.

If you dont have a barbecue and dont fancy those horrible disposable ones, how about a flower pot? The HotPot BBQ (99.99 from Firebox.com) looks like a terracotta pot but

contains a stainless steel barbecue grill beneath the foliage. Its not huge (37cm by 27cm) and best for small meals but its

quite clever. If youd prefer something more substantial, the Portable Notebook BBQ Grill (24) folds up for easy storage but offers a decent 45x30cm cooking surface. Both barbecues are charcoal-fired, but if youd rather have a portable gas barbecue then celebrity chef Marco Pierre White has the MarcO-Grill 1000, which looks good, wont

damage surfaces and costs around 99.

Some BBQ gadgets are a bit less serious. If you fancy making the famous Beer Can Chicken, where half a

can of beer bastes the chicken from the inside, then try a chrome Beer Can Chicken Roaster for around 10. The roaster keeps the chicken and can upright to prevent foamy disasters. You can brand meat cowboy-style with the BBQ Branding Iron (14.00), while the Musketeer Sword Barbecue Fork is ideal for sausages and silly too, shaped like a sword and comes with a free mask to make the chef look like Zorro. Its yours for around 15.

We britons love to barbecue: the slightest hint of sunshine has us rushing to the shed to bring out the barbie and burn things to cinders. Gadget firms havent been slow to notice and there are all kinds of gadgets that can amuse guests, chill drinks and even help with the cooking.
