COMPENSATION SURVEY: AUGUST 2016
SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN
Southwest Michigan First, along with other regional economic development organizations*, partnered with HRM Innovations to work with employers across seven counties of Southwest Michigan to gather pay data for a compensation survey. Organizations were contacted through various direct efforts such as email and phone. The survey questionnaire was released via email on May 24, 2016, to a sample of 256 companies in Southwest Michigan that met the size and industry requirement of the survey. Potential participants received follow up emails and phone calls to encourage participation. Data was reported with an effective date of May 1, 2016. Participants submitted survey responses in an Excel spreadsheet to HRM Innovations for data compilation and analysis. Survey collection was completed on August 9, 2016.
Contact information for the participating companies was generated through a joint effort from HRM Innovations and Southwest Michigan First. The target industries for this survey included automotive manufacturing, non-automotive manufacturing and several other smaller industries in the Southwest Michigan region. Due to this scope about 256 companies were contacted and asked to participate in this survey.

Once the data was received, submissions were reviewed for completeness and outlier data that significantly skewed the results were removed from our analysis. Various statistics were gathered about jobs within the families of Engineering, Executive Management, Facilities and Maintenance, Finance, General Office, Human Resources, Information Technology, Logistics and Materials, Production, Sales, Marketing, and Communication. These statistics included number of employees (EEs) in that role, annual base wage paid, pay classification (exempt/non-exempt), recruiting difficulty, and bonus eligibility status.
As a matter of policy, the data was maintained in absolute confidentiality and no individual participant data will be revealed.
