SOUTHWEST ACUPUNCTURE COLLEGE New Mexico & Colorado Program Fact Sheet Educating Today’s Student’s in Tomorrow’s Medicine Since 1980 The Program Students in residence in New Mexico and Colorado will complete multiple didactic courses online covering the basic theory of Oriental medicine and Western sciences. Combined MAc+MCHM programs are scheduled for 1-2 online courses per semester for a total of 18 online courses over 12 semesters. MAc student programs are scheduled for 2 online courses per semester during the first 6 semesters for a total of 12 online courses over 9 semesters. Convenient, rigorous, and exciting online learning. Taught by experienced online teachers See our new catalog (available through our website) for all courses and when they are offered. Why We Offer an Online Course Format All students at Southwest Acupuncture College must be in residence at one of our two campuses. The preponderance of the programs are taught through practical, hands-on, and clinical instruction which is required to become a proficient, successful, medical practitioner. This training is augmented with a modest number of structured, online, courses whose didactic content makes them well suited for an online platform. Online learning offers the flexibility to accommodate the busy lifestyles of adult learners while remaining engaging and thorough. While the residential courses cultivate performance skills, the online courses complement them by fostering critical thinking, reasoning, and writing, skills likewise needed to become an independent healthcare provider in the Oriental medical field. The Master of Acupuncture (MAc) program provides students with education in classical Oriental medicine focusing on acupuncture without the addition of a Chinese herbal medicine curriculum. Thirty-nine states, including Colorado (but not New Mexico or California), allow for licensing with an MAc degree. Information on state licensing can be obtained from the Academic Dean. Students treat a minimum of 250 patients. The dual-degree Master of Acupuncture + Master of Chinese Herbal Medicine (MAc+MCHM) program consists of training in the five branches of classical Oriental medicine: acupuncture/moxibustion, herbal medicine, physical therapy, nutrition, and exercise/breathing therapy. The preponderance of the program is devoted to the study and practice of acupuncture and herbal medicine. The MAc+MCHM degree meets the requirements for licensure in most states (some may require additional hours). Students treat a minimum of 350 patients. Contact us Today for a tour of a campus!
