‘I have no business to influence my fans to

watch my film’ When a superstar’s interview is scheduled, there are umpteen angles that spring to mind on

the direction of the interview. Should it be personal? Or strictly business, perhaps? Or may be a combination of both? Why not just go with the flow? What if the star has diktats on what he will and

won’t talk about? Aruna R Krishnan did consider several angles, but was in for a pleasant surprise when she caught up with the one of the most elusive stars in south India, Ajith Kumar.

Chakri Toleti has had a dream-run as a director and it continues as he directs one of the most-adored heroes of our time – Ajith Kumar. In a chat with Vijayalakshmi Sridhar, the director shares his journey so far and of course, talks about Thala and Billa 2

‘I have tried to stay as true to the Billa concept as possible’

‘I know people say, “Hire Vidyut if you want action”’He is a trained martial artist, a talented actor and is built like a Greek God. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for Vidyut Jamwal. There are plenty of eyes on the actor now, thanks to Billa 2, where Vidyut plays the villain. Kirthi Jayakumar recounts her interview with the actor

A lot of gay men seem to like you... How do you feel about being a gay icon: I don’t know about the ‘gay icon’ deal, but for me, it is just appreciation that counts. Any kind of appreciation from anyone – children, old people, a guy, a girl, a gay person – it just matters that they’re being appreciative and I am grateful for that.

If you had to ask a very pretty actor on a date, what would you say? I am one of those people who don’t believe in pick-up lines. I think a smile is all that it takes.

Are you in a relationship right now or are you single:No comments. I’m not talking about it.

Ideal date:That would be a combination of a lot of people. But right now, none come to mind!

‘I have a meatier role than Parvathy in Billa 2’Bruna means dark, shining, glossy hair. And true to her name, in comes the diva with her brown hair cascading down her slim shoulders, eyes shining and looking like a picture of glamour and elegance. Tantalising Bruna Abdullah can’t stop talking about Ajith Kumar and her pivotal role in Billa 2. Kirthi Jayakumar listens in…

The cynosure of all eyes:

Gabbar SinghThe much-awaited Gabbar Singh, featuring Telugu cinema’s Power Star Pawan Kalyan, will hit 1200+ theatres worldwide in May. The movie has already created a buzz in the south Indian cinema industry and is touted to be one of the biggest movies in Pawan Kalyan’s career till date. Aravind G Shivakamal tries to assess the hype

|

Page 67: Southscope Magazine April 2012 Issue

‘I have never ever dreamt that I will direct Pawan Kalyan sir’s film so early in my career’When director Harish Shankar got a call from Pawan Kalyan himself asking him to direct Gabbar Singh, he thought it was in a dream! Aravind G Shivakamal talks to this three-film-old director about working with the Power Star of the Telugu film industry

The Man, The Mania:

Pawan KalyanHe is elusive and his cult fan following is the stuff legends are made of. Still, Power Star Pawan Kalyan is never known to speak about his films during the shooting. The star continues to adopt the same strategy even for his next big budget movie, Gabbar Singh, the expectations of which have reached an all-time high! Aravind G Shivakamal feels the reverberation…

|

Page 70: Southscope Magazine April 2012 Issue

‘There’s so much expectation because of Pawan Kalyan garu’If Dabangg’s pot maker Rajjo paraded about her village in sexy cholis, her Telugu counterpart, Bhagyalakshmi, is not going to be far behind. She wields her own special brand of sensual magic in Gabbar Singh, the Andhra avatar of the film. Shruti Haasan who plays this role, is caught in a whirlwind of calls ahead of the film’s release, while Pavithra Srinivasan catches her for an exclusive chat

Versatility. A word that has sort of lost its appeal with clichéd over-use these days! But with Indrajith it seems to be an exception. Examine his career graph, his growth, and take stock of the characters that he has portrayed on screen. You will accede to the fact that Indrajith is versatility personified, says Unni R Nair

Is she the No. 1 in Kannada movies? If you go by her popularity, number of films, hits, and the remuneration that she commands, then it will be hard to say that Ragini Dwivedi is not the numero uno female star, says Aravind G Shivakamal

Many actors struggle to survive in the volatile film industry beyond 25 films. But Shivarajkumar (fondly known as Shivanna) has not only completed 100 films, but continues to be in great demand. Producers queue up to sign the star, who has multiple titles and dozens of hits to his credit. Aravind G Shivakamal in conversation with the original King of Sandalwood
