Back to School Night

by Priscillia Madrigal and Emily Alvarez

On Wednesday, August 27th, 2014, Southridge Middle held its annual Back to School Night. The

students of Southridge were out in full force to greet parents to campus. WEB helped serve deli-

cious snow cones, AVID and ASB were available to help parents. The parents were able to spend

the time to meet fantastic Southridge teachers. Back to School Night is the night where the parents

can connect with their child’s teachers for the school year. All in all, the success of Back to School

Night shows that this 2014-2015 school year is going to be a great one!

Cookies for the Rookies by Luis Nunez

On Thursday, August 21st, 2014 at 7:00am, the Southridge Middle School WEB Leaders

gave the new 6th graders a sweet surprise! WEB provided cookies as they talked to the 6th

graders about how awesome the year has been going for the newest additions to Southridge.

In the 500 wing, 6th graders responded happily to how the new year was going for them.

Daniela Herrera said, “It’s a bit different from elementary school.” Mr. Reasin, the coordinator

of the WEB program at Southridge Middle School said, “So far our WEB class this year is

awesome. They worked so hard over the summer to make this a great year!”

After the cookie explosion, the sixth graders were feeling more comfortable and ready for the

day. They were able to spend time with their WEB Leader, a student that will help their 6th

graders throughout the entire school year. The WEB program knows how to grab the atten-

tion of the sixth graders.

A place with free cookies is truly a place Where Everybody Belongs.

Student Monthly Spotlights

6th Grade: Bryan Higuera by Priscilla Madrigal

This week’s student spotlight is… Bryan Higuera. Bryan, an up-coming 6

th grade athlete is an inspiration to all young athletes.

Bryan plays for the Angels and his favorite moment was when they played against the White Sox. His team won - giving the White Sox their first loss. He has been playing baseball since last year and his position is catcher. Hopefully, this young baseball player will keep his eye on the ball and continue his hard work.

8th Grade: Felicity Lopez by Fabian Cervantes and Melissa Miranda The 8

th grade student spotlight is on Felicity Lopez. Felicity is a

very academic student, she tries her best even when she fails. “My favorite teacher is Mr.Marmo because he helps us succeed in Language Arts, and he teaches us how to write high level es-says.” She likes to be a good influence to others, so they will also do good deeds. “We are the leaders of the school, so we influ-ence others.” Felicity likes to communicate with other students and make new friends. “I like to hang out with my friends and make new friends after school at McDonald’s and Nogales.”

Southridge’s New Hits by Melissa Ortega

The Southridge Middle School music program is already work-

ing hard with vocal chords and instruments. Advanced orches-

tra and band have already been reviewing and perfecting their

instrumental sounds. Beginning orchestra and band are still try-

ing to get the hang of reading and writing music as well as per-

form well on their instruments. Choir, however is already singing

well and are learning to present the student of the month song.

There will be two concerts one will be in the fall and the other at

the end of the school year in May. This year, the music students

have more instruments to work with. The music students are

working very hard and are still getting to know each other to

make one beautiful sound together.

Jose Aguliar, Amina Drayef, Anibal Garcia, Ashely Chen, Caleb Svede Holling

and Stefanie Genuino are focused on their music.
