CHAPTER DIRECTORS CORNER: SONNY AND LISA GALES
Greetings From The Gales We started the month off running. We had a MAP Event at the Boat and Camper Show at the Pavilion in Marion. We sat up a booth and talked to many people. Rhonda from the Southern Illinoisan Magazine took our picture and will put it in the upcoming magazine afterwards we all went to DQ a bikers favorite place! We want to thank everyone who participated. We want to thank Charles and Nancy Mallett for Hosting the Super Bowl Party this year. It was hard to believe temps hit 70's in the first part of February when a week before we were in the negative digits. We had snowy days and some dry time. Weather just doing it's own thing. Whether on 2,3, or 4 wheels we need to be careful. That's where our Bike and Trike practice come in. In April we have that chance at the Safety Weekend in Vandalia IL. We hope you can join us. The Team also discussed more card/game parties. Sonny and I are hosting one March 10th. We also will include 2 seminars taught by Steve Gottschalk. Anyone interested in hosting a card/game party contact Lisa Gales(Me). We also have another opportunity for a MAP Event at Harrison's Open House. Meet at 10:30 am on 3-16-19 for a group photo and then we'll have lunch at Gresa's Café in DeSoto. Our deepest sympathy goes out to George and Carol White from Mo. Chapter I on the death of George's daughter Kristen. We also want to remember her husband Jake and daughter Taylor aka Polka Dot. There's a group of us going to Mo. Spring Fling in Osage Beach Mo. on March 2nd. We'll let you know more about that next time. Until next month.....Sonny and Lisa
ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS CORNER: JIM AND TONYA BEGGS
Hello, we hope everyone had a great February, we sure did, with February being Tonya’s birthday month! Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes! We are glad to see the nights are getting shorter and the days longer! We are looking forward to the Branson trip for our next get-away with GWRRA. As always, ride safe and enjoy the ride!

MEMBERSHIP ENHANCEMENT COORDINATORS: CHUCK AND PAULA McNEILL
Hi friends, winter season is about to become a distant memory. I think we just might have an early spring. We see and hear more bikes out now causing us to want to gear up and ride again. It’s still a bit cool for me, but I’m sure Chuck wouldn’t mind the ride. I miss feeling the warm breeze and getting close to nature. We’ve enjoyed several nice dinners with friends in February, one of which several of us were caught in a brief snow storm. Breakfast last weekend was also enjoyed by several of us. If you haven’t been to any of the gatherings lately, even if you prefer not to eat; come enjoy the time with friends. Remember to notify us if you have a new email address or new phone number. Ride safe. Drive safe. We want to see you at the next gathering! Chuck and Paula
SAFETY EDUCATOR: STEVE BRUNGARD
February and March 2019
Winter Warm-up was a good time for all to hunker and stay warm. Presented at the closing
ceremony was a Grand Master level for Nancy Mallett. I also presented certificates of
appreciation to Dan Davis and Kris Andre for their outstanding work as Rider Coaches, to Sue
Allhands for her continuing devotion to rider education programs, and to Bonnie O’Guinn for
her help with the Rider Ed program with her help at the Rider Ed table helping to sell tickets for
the griddle we raffled off and to helping out at the rider course training at our Chapter U level.
I want to THANK the many participants that helped by buying tickets for this worthwhile
project. THANKS. The prize winner was from Iowa, Sue Thompson IA-F THANKS very
much. Joey presented a very good program and he did go back home just in case the weather
might get him out but it didn’t. Don’t forget about the Rider Course training and Medic First
Aid we are providing to you the members. If any Questions Call Me. 618*-292-4219 or e-mail
MAP – WILLIE KOHLENBERGER
MAP We have three MAP "events" in the coming months, and hope we have large participation from the members. A display at Harrison's sport shop on March 16, share night at Culvers Carbondale May 9, and the windshield wash on May 11. Any dinner ride we do can also be considered a MAP "event", if we talk to people about our motorcycles. The 2019 MAP ride is also enclosed in the newsletter. The ride doesn't officially start until April, so we will be setting up calendar rides for this as soon as the weather cooperates. Willie & Carlene

SI Ride In Plans are moving along for this years Ride In. We are grandfathered in with GWRRA, so the name will remain the same, but what and how we do it, can be different. Carlene

GETTING TO KNOW YOU – STEVE AND SANDY SCHLAGER
Steve and Sandy Schlager live in Carterville, IL and have been married 43 years. They have one grown up
child who is living near Dallas Tx and one grandchild living near Manassas VA. We don’t get to see either one
as much as we would like.
Steve was self-employed selling advertising specialties for 36 years. Sandy was a registered nurse working in
critical care, education, and management for 43 years.
They joined GWRRA in 1988 after receiving an invitation from a now good friend in Fairbury, IL. Being a
member of GWRRA has given them friends throughout the country and many opportunities for great rides.
Together they have had a multitude of bikes: 5 GoldWings, 3 Suzuki Burgman Scooters, 2 Honda Passport
scooters, a Honda 500, 650, 750, A Yamaha 650 and 2 BMW’s.
We have also owned a combination of 26 airplanes and ultralights.
In our younger days, we enjoyed riding our motorcycles. And we enjoyed camping, mostly with our Chapter Q
friends. We’ve graduated from tents (our “Nylon Hilton”), to Quik-Kamps and Aspen trailers, to travel trailers,
and finally to motorhomes. We’re on our 6th
motorhome and we love it.
Now, in retirement, we have both discovered that we enjoy writing, and each have published a book and we’re
each working on another book.
Do the best you can do in everything, and don’t take anything to seriously.
Be thankful you’re surrounded by friends.
