3rd Quarter 2007 Volume #1, Issue #29 Southern Hospitality - Mouser Style Recently, Mouser Custom Cabinetry extended some southern hospitality to our Authorized Dealers and Mouser Representatives during our 2007 Customer Appreciation Days Event. This mid-year customer appreciation celebration began with a variety of activities on the morning of Friday, June 1 st and concluded with an afternoon of thoroughbred racing at historic Churchill Downs on Saturday, June 2 nd . The weekend events were our way of expressing our appreciation and gratitude for the support you have provided Mouser Custom Cabinetry over the past several years. Attendees had the option of one of four “day trips” for Friday. The first group had the opportunity to tour the Mouser manufacturing facility and then spend the afternoon touring either the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum or the new Muhammad Ali Cultural Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The second tour group explored the beauty of Kentucky’s Bluegrass Region by visiting the historic Shaker Village in Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, while the third tour group traveled through the beautiful thoroughbred horse country near Lexington, Kentucky to tour the internationally renowned Kentucky Horse Park. The final group activity on Friday was a planned day of golfing for diehard golfers. This group of golfers spent the afternoon at the scenic Maywood Country Club in Bardstown, Kentucky. As the events of the day came to a close, all of our guests met in the Mouser Plant Auditorium for an evening of “good times with good friends” that included refreshments and a catered dinner in a casual environment. Our Customer Appreciation event continued on Saturday, June 2 nd at Churchill Downs, home of the famed Kentucky Derby, with the Mouser Day at the Races. Guests joined us on Millionaires’ Row for a luncheon and an exciting day of thoroughbred racing. At the end of the day, some guests left with a little extra cash in their pockets, while others left some cash at the track! Approximately 120 guests from 38 Dealerships joined us for good times during our Customer Appreciation event. Each guest took home a “Kentucky” gift box filled with products made in the Bluegrass State. Parting gifts also included wine glasses and drink glasses etched with the Mouser Custom Cabinetry logo and the Customer Appreciation Event date. We wish you all continued success and we look forward to the next time we can welcome you to Kentucky for more “good times with good friends”.

Mouser Custom CabinetryGoes Green

Mouser Custom Cabinetry has been named a certified manufacturer in the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) Environmental Stewardship Program, which recognizes manufacturers that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to environmental practices and sustainability. The program rewards companies that seek to minimize the environmental impact on their local communities by recycling wastes and using low emission coatings and products. To qualify for the certification, companies are rated annually on 18 different criteria in categories including air quality, product resource management, process resource management, environmental stewardship, and community relations.

Administered by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturer’s Association and aligned with the National Association of Home Builders’ Green Home Building Guidelines, the new program recognizes companies that employ the use of environmentally responsible materials in cabinet products.

With the help of industry partners, KCMA created an Environmental Stewardship Program to establish industry policies and promote standards that are beneficial to society and the environment. Certification requirements in areas such as air qual-ity (low-formaldehyde emitting composite wood), resource management and envi-ronmental stewardship have established a tangible way for cabinet manufacturers to emphasize their commitment to environmental sustainability. Envi-ronmentally responsible practices assure sustainable supplies of the cabinet manufacturer’s primary resource.

The KCMA Environmental Stewardship Program was modeled on the National Association for Home Builders’ Green Home Building Guidelines program. The KCMA stewardship program evaluates the product and construction as well as the manufacturing facility, its production activities, and its involvement and impact in the surrounding community. Criteria for defining environmentally acceptable product traits have been established by evaluating available materials and technologies along with established eco-friendly or “green” home standards.

Since launching ESP at the 2006 International Woodworking Fair, the voluntary certification program has been enthusiastically received by cabinet manufacturers of all sizes. Forty-two plants and brands are the first to meet the certification requirements of this groundbreaking program and nearly twenty more cabinetmakers are well on their way to achieving certification. Acknowledging the need to invest in our future was the first step in preserving our environment.

Additional information about Mouser Custom Cabinetry’s involvement in the KCMA Environmental Stewardship Program may be obtained on-line at www.mousercc.com.

Consumer Advertising Lead Follow UpOver the past several years, Mouser Custom Cabinetry’s advertising campaigns have been focused on one or two publications. Lead generation from these publications was steady. This year, we expanded the consumer advertising program to include Woman’s Day-Special Interest Publication, Home Magazine, the inaugural issue of Ty Pennington Style, and Kitchen Trends.

Shifting the advertising focus to these four publications has created more brand awareness and stimulated interest with consumers who read these magazines. In April 2007, the Woman’s Day-Special Interest Publication advertising generated 171 consumer leads, while Home Magazine produced 57 leads. In May, the number of incoming leads shifted considerably, with Woman’s Day-Special Interest Publication generating 127 leads and Home Magazine generating 363 leads.

Consumer leads are expected to remain strong or increase as we continue our consumer advertising campaign through the remainder of 2007 and into 2008. Scheduled consumer advertising includes the July issue of Woman’s Day-Special Interest Publications (Kitchens and Baths) followed by advertisements in the September issues of both Woman’s Day-Special Interest Publication and Home Magazine. Year end advertisements will include a Woman’s Day-Special Interest Publication advertisement in November and a Home Magazine advertisement in December.

Consumers who have requested information from recent publications were provided with Mouser literature and have been directed to their nearest Mouser Dealership. Those same consumer leads have been processed and distributed to the corresponding Mouser Dealership. Leads are processed within a few days after they are received in the Marketing office. In some instances a telephone number is not provided by the consumer, so you should consult your local telephone directory or make contact via mail.

Once you receive the leads, it is up to you to contact the consumer and potentially generate an additional sale. If you have questions regarding our consumer advertising and lead generation, contact our Marketing Coordinator at 800-345-7537, extension 298.

Expanded Offering ofCustom Glacier Finishes

With the implementation of our 2007 Price & Specification Catalog, Mouser Custom Cabinetry expanded our finish capabilities to include more options for Custom Glacier Finishes. The growing popularity of these beautiful, striated finishes has created demand for more variations in color and application, and Mouser responded with more flexibility in our custom finishing parameters.

Since January 29th, the effective date for the 2007 catalog, Mouser Custom Cabinetry has accepted requests for custom finish options such as a heavier Glacier effect, different glaze colors for the striations, custom solid colors with striations, and wood stains with striations. Now, you can satisfy even the most discriminating clients; simply send a written request for a Custom Glacier Finish quote, along with a sample of the desired finish, to the Mouser Customer Service Department. A custom quote will be provided within 72 hours, and a Match Sample of the finish will be shipped within two weeks. For more information on our Glacier Finish Program, please see pages 3-8 and 3-9 of our 2007 Price and Specification Catalog.

Product Drawer Bottoms Changing to MDFOver the past year, the quality and availability of the core material used on 1/4” drawer bottoms has become an issue. The core suppliers are using the best core components in producing thicker veneer cores (1/2”, 5/8”, 3/4”, etc.) with tight tolerances. These value added cores generate higher revenue for the suppliers. This leaves the remaining cores with thickness issues and poor quality material that is used on 1/4” panels. This is the material that Mouser had been using for drawer bottoms.

The quality of the material we have received has suffered. We have been able to catch the majority of the issues on incoming inspection and limited the amount that has made its way into the plant. However, because of the material our suppliers are forced to use, they have been evaluating whether they can continue to

supply 1/4” veneer core material to Mouser for drawer bottoms.

In order to alleviate the supply and quality issues, Mouser Custom Cabinetry will be changing from the 1/4” veneer core material on drawer bottoms to a MDF core product. The change will give us a more consistent thickness on the material and will allow for more uniform sanding. Appearance differences on the two types of core are very difficult to see because the core material is so thin; the veneer appearance remains the same.

If you have any questions regarding the change to MDF core material on drawer bottoms produced by Mouser Custom Cabinetry, contact the Mouser Customer Service Department at 800-345-7537, extension 5.

Identity Wear ProgramDiscontinued

Several changes have been made to our Marketing programs over the last year, and after careful evaluation of Mouser Identity wear claims processed through our Co-op program, the decision was made to discontinue the Mouser Apparel Program that was made available to our Authorized Dealers. As of July 1, 2007, Mouser Custom Cabinetry will discontinue our identity wear program through Phoenix Business Systems.

Discontinuation of the Mouser apparel program in no way affects the service provided by Phoenix. If you have identity wear orders being processed by Phoenix, or you are planning to submit an apparel order to Phoenix, you should anticipate the same excellent customer service they have always provided. Questions regarding any outstanding apparel orders should be directed to Phoenix Business Systems at 800-580-3871, attention Libby.

If you have a gift certificate for identity wear that was issued by Mouser Custom Cabinetry or if you have questions regarding Co-op reimbursement on an apparel order, contact the Mouser Marketing Coordinator at 800-345-7537, extension 298.

Fentell RemodelingVoorhees, NJ

A Cut Above The CompetitionFentell Remodeling, LLC, of Voorhees, New Jersey specializes in exceeding customer expectations. Founded in 2002 and an Authorized Mouser Custom Cabinetry Dealer since 2005, Robert Feist, owner and VP, tells us that the company’s mission is to be the leader in providing value-added services to customers by creating a successful partnership throughout the entire project. With over 20 years experience in the construction business and a talented staff of designers, sales people and installers, Fentell Remodeling takes the client from the initial meeting through several important steps that include developing a floor plan, refining a list of specifications, evaluating the budget, visiting the jobsite, designing and quoting the project, authorizing the sales agreement and completing the construction. Fentell Remodeling even offers a warranty on the project!

Though the showroom is not large, it does feature two Mouser Custom Cabinetry displays. One Cherry Natural display in the Amity door style showcases a utility cabinet with drawers, an open wall unit with apothecary drawers and under-cabinet lighting accented by a Cherry wood floor with a Mosaic tile inlay. Retail consumers are the primary clients for Fentell Remodeling, and the dealership averages 15 to 20 remodeling projects per year. The company relies on advertising in local bulletins, magazines and newsletters, as well as excellent referrals from

satisfied customers. Offering appliances, countertops and installation assures clients that a project will be completely overseen by Fentell personnel from the “tear out” to the final inspection.

Partnering with the best suppliers, taking pride in the workmanship and offering great customer service from beginning to end sets Fentell Remodeling, LLC apart from the competition. Bob Feist says Mouser Custom Cabinetry allows his firm to offer a large variety of door styles, wood species and finishes to clientele who desire that unique, one-of-a-kind kitchen design. The goal of all Fentell associates is to build lasting relationships with clients by surpassing their expectations throughout the entire remodeling process.

Our featured Mouser Associate this month is Rebecca Fleming. Rebecca has been with Mouser Custom Cabinetry for over three years. She joined our company while completing her Masters Degree in Business Administration. As the Human Resources Assistant Manager, Rebecca was responsible for many functions including associate recruiting, coordinating special company events that included the annual United Way campaign, and supervising two Human Resources Administrators.

This past March, Rebecca left the Human Resources Department and accepted the position of Manager in the Expedite Services Department. She is now responsible for the Expedite Services Department where Finish Up orders are processed.

Rebecca is working with the Expedite Services team of four Associates, together with other department Managers, to streamline and improve the way in which these time sensitive orders are processed. Rebecca is considering incorporating several ‘Lean Thinking’ concepts into the process such as ‘Visual workplace’ and ‘Continuous Improvement’ to make the overall process as efficient as possible.

The ultimate goal is to quickly and accurately process Finish Up and Warranty orders, and, in doing so allow our manufacturing facility to do the same. Her success in doing this will provide the best possible Finish Up service to our customers.

Join us in congratulating Rebecca on her assignment as Expedite Services Manager and wishing her well in her endeavors to streamline the processes. Rebecca can be reached at 800-345-7537, extension 226 if you have questions or require assistance with a Finish Up or Warranty order.

Mid Year 2007 Price & Specification Catalog Updates

When Mouser Custom Cabinetry receives an order, we process the order with the understanding it is a sold, firm order ready for production, with little or no changes required. Due to the nature of the business, we realize that changes are inevitable. For this reason, changes may be sent before the order is entered into our Order Entry System and receive no charges. Additionally, there are many allowable changes that can be made at the Order Release stage for no additional charges (see pg 2-15 in the 2007 Mouser Price and Specification Catalog).

Once the order has been entered into our Order Entry System it moves to the next stage of processing. If a change order is sent in during this phase, the order must be pulled from its location and returned to the Work Up Associate to evaluate the requested change. The change may require additional Technical Review questions, changes to AutoCAD drawings and/or a follow-up call to the designer. This is labor intensive and tends to increase the possibility for error since there might be inconsistencies between the original layout

Frequently Asked Questions

and order form.

Upon completion by Order Services, the Order Release is faxed to the Dealer. After receipt of the signed Order Release, the order is scheduled for the plant floor and materials are committed. If you feel that additional changes may be required, you have the option to request that the order be re-acknowledged to you. Although a ship week will not be assigned until the final order release is signed and returned, you will have the opportunity to make additional changes. Changes sent in after the return of the signed Order Release may not be possible. If a change is approved after order release, increased change order charges will be incurred as outlined on page 3-16 of the Price and Specification Catalog. In addition, changes requested after the return of the signed Order Release could potentially extend the ship week on the order.

Any additional questions regarding Change Order Charges may be directed to the Mouser Customer Service Department at 800-345-7537, extension 5.

Why are we so strict with our change order charges?

In the July 2007 updated catalog pages, we added a few new items to keep our line interesting to designers and consumers. Likewise, we have updated some of our sales aid items to reflect the quality associated with Mouser Custom Cabinetry.

One of the changes we made was in terminology. We elected to change the name of our Paint Grade Maple to Painted Maple. This was primarily due to some connotations associated with the term “paint grade” as using a lesser quality material than “Maple”. That is not true. All of the materials we use are held to the same quality standards.

Two new finishes, Espresso and Tungsten, have been added to our line. Espresso is a dark, almost black stain available on Cherry, Select Alder, and Knotty Alder. Tungsten is a light gray solid color available on Painted Maple, Hickory, and Red Oak. In keeping with other solid colors, Tungsten Glaze Choice is also available on Painted Maple only. Consult your new 2007 catalog pages for appropriate finish charges. S-9 Color Blocks in Espresso and Tungsten will be distributed with the updated catalog pages.

Several of our current finishes are now available on other wood species. Both Knotty Alder and Select Alder are now available with Burnished Cotton, Driftwood, and Ebony finishes. Cherry is available with Julep, Julep Glaze Choice, Maize, and Maize Glaze Choice. Sahara is available on Hickory or Red Oak in addition to Painted Maple. Ebony on Maple has been moved to be on Painted Maple.

The S-10 Color Block Box and S-19 Component Sample Box were both completely redesigned. The main change is in the orientation of the box. The padded feet are also changed to allow the box to slide across the countertop without scratching. Two boxes are required for displaying the complete stocked line of our S-9 Color Blocks.

Oven cabinets are now listed up to 36” wide in the Utility section. This extra width should allow for modifications such as clipped corners or larger width appliance cutouts without adding charges to increase the width to 36”.

A new modification that allows the mid-rails of the cabinet frame to be removed has also been added. This modification is only available on In-set Series cabinets. The ideal use is removing the two mid-rails on a 3 (DS3) Drawer Stack .

Be sure to review the letter sent with the updated pages as it contains information on all the changes made on the updated pages. You may order from these pages beginning July 1, 2007, but remember that services at the plant will be limited due to our shutdown the week of July 4th.
