The Southeast Region Wing Commanders, Senior Region Command Staff, National Commander and representative
from National Headquarters held a Region Command Call in mid-August at the Oak Haven Resorts in Sevierville,
TN. It was a great weekend of informal discussion and team building that should benefit all in Southeast Region.
One of the outcomes was a schedule of events around Southeast Region for the upcoming FY2010. I would like to
share some of the key events out of that schedule for your planning purposes. I encourage each of you to plan to
support your respective
wing conference as well as
other wings which might
be near you. I encourageall SER members to sup-
port the Southeast Region
Conference in May 2010. Ifyour schedule and fi-
nances permit, I also en-courage you to supportthe Summer Board and
Annual Conference since itwill give you a great per-
spective of the businessworkings of CAP at the
upper levels. There are
numerous great learning
labs in which to participate
Please continue to keep
safety at a high priority
level in all of your CAP
activities. Our members and our resources are extremely valuable to us. Help us to protect all of them.

Aerospace Education
The 14th annual Aerospace Education Teacher Workshop was held from 6-24 July 2009 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennes-
see. The workshop was sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and staffed by CAP Aerospace Officers. The workshop was directed by Lt.Col. Dave Garner, DCS SER Aerospace Education (AE) and assisted by Majors Kermit Duckett, Gary Lynn and Paul Lewis, AE Directors for
Tennessee Wing. The workshop was kicked off by presentations by Maj. Gen. Richard Bowling, former National Commander, Col. James
Rushing, Southeast Region Commander, and Tennessee Wing Commander Col. Barry Melton.
Teachers received two hours of flight orientation by Tennessee Wing and visited Huntsville, Alabamas Marshall Space Flight Center where
NASA gave the class a VIP tour. The class also had a presentation by six World War II pilots that made all of us thankful for what they had
to go through to keep us free.
This summers course consisted of both the basic and advanced classesand 28 teachers from East Tennessee school systems attended. All of
the teachers signed on as CAP Aerospace Education Members and sev-
eral expressed interest in becoming regular members of CAP.
The workshop awards three hours of graduate credit to each teacher, and it is fully funded by the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission of Tenn.State Transportation Department. The workshop is one of the highest
rated teacher workshops held at the University of Tennessee.
More information and photos of the workshop are available at the South-
east Region Aerospace Education web site at www.capae.info
