• >farmers were required to produce 1/5 of the export crop

• >since more rice were being exported than being eaten in Vietnam, people faced starvation

• French culture was imposed

• Generally in the southeast Asia

• >millions of people were to work on plantations or mines

• >different religions or skin color often led to racial or religious clashes

• China & Britain

• >Britain snuck opium and traded illegally

• >China tried to stop the illegal trade

• >Britain fought China and received Hong Kong and a free trade after their victory

• >poor were unhappy that the foreigners were getting privileges so they attacked foreigners and lost

• >loss of Chinese lives

• India < Britain

• >had power over India

• >imposed taxes

• >took land

• >instituted reforms

• >later, India rebelled and lost

• >therefore Britain took COMPLETE control over India
