Aims of the Academies
•Provide the opportunity to study in college and university while still at school
•Smooth the transition between school, college, university and the workplace
•Encourage participation of under represented groups in HE
•Support advanced entry into year 2 in Higher Education
•Raise awareness of the industries which are growth areas in Scotland by providing work experience and work placement

Partnership delivery between school and college
•School delivers 1.5 units – flexible
•College delivers 3.5 units – Friday afternoon August – June
•Some schools have opted to deliver one of the HNC units on science presentation skills

Practical labs designed to provide an insight into working as a Food Scientist
Guest speakers from Food and Drink Industry
• Group visits to local industry
• Individual visit to work shadow a scientist in a Food and Drink environment

Support advanced entry to level 2 of a QMU degree– Access to QMU Learning Resource Centre (LRC)– Academic skill development for example referencing coursework, research
skills, study techniques
UCAS application support- QMU guide for Academy students- Presentations on producing the personal statement

• HNC Applied Sciences– Study chemistry, cell biology, microbiology, – Project which integrates research skills with IT and presentation skills– Personal development
