Word Mania is a National Spelling Competition for children from year 2 to year 6.
The programme is computer based. Children are given 12 random letters. From these letters children make up as
many words as possible in 3 minutes.
Points are allocated on word length, complexity and use of ‘special’ letters. The special letters are highlighted.
The competition ran for 3 weeks. Children were able to access the programme from school or at home.
South Bunbury Primary Year 4 Room 6 students came second for the South West Region. They played 432 games
and spelt 6010 words correctly.
Childrens’ spelling benefited from them being aware of word structure, use of prefixes and suffixes, structure of words,
especially finding words within and building onto, was the benefit.

Students who arrive late to school are now required to come to the front office, with the adult who is bringing them to school, to
get a late note.
A staff member in the office will print a late note for the student to take to his/her teacher.
This process streamlines the process of recording students arriving after the start of the day.
It will register the time of arrival of the student on the attendance register and will produce a note
for the class room teacher so they are aware the student has been through the office on arrival.
This applies to all students from Kindy to Year 6.

Immunisation records — Kindy, Pre Primary and Year 1 students
Please help us by bringing in your child’s immunisation records so we can update their entry into the school database. If your
child has recently been vaccinated, we will not have accurate records. It is very important to be accurate with the immunisation
status of each of our students. For example should an outbreak of measles occur at our school, any child who has not been
immunised may need to be excluded from school. A history of you child’s immunisation record status can be obtained by phoning
1800 653 809 or at www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/public/services/acir/keeping-track.jsp
Sickness and absenteeism
During the last few weeks there has been a range of ’bugs’ around the school with a lot of children going home complaining of
head aches, feeling nauseas and vomiting and generally unwell. If you know your child is unwell, please don’t send them to
school. Spreading the germs to fellow class mates and staff impacts on the school community.
Should your child be home sick for a day or two, you can register their absence by going to the school app and using the
absentee tab. Alternatively you can ring the school or send a note with you child on their return.
I am asking the School community to make up care packs for the students at the sister school in Bali. Each care pack should contain some stationery items, some stickers, a little book or toy, some underwear and a toiletry item such as toothbrush/hair brush. If you wish to add more to your care pack you can. You can present the care pack in an old shoe box or a library bag clearly labelled with the sex and age of the child the pack is intended for. If you cannot manage to make a complete pack I will leave a box at the front office for collecting any donations. Also anyone who wishes to help by sewing some library bags please let me know. As there is only 130 students at the sister school we should be able to get enough care packs together for every
student. Thank you in anticipation for your generosity for those less fortunate.
