Mission Statement: The guiding purpose and primary objective of the Union County Water Conservation Board is to conserve, protect, and maintain the Sparta Formation Aquifer as a continuing source of high quality, potable water for current and future consumers by providing for affordable, alternate sources of fresh water pursuant to the authority and responsibility granted by the State of Arkansas.

2016 Sparta Aquifer Recovery Statement of Condition “One of the defining conditions for the [state of Arkansas to declare a] critical ground-water area in a confined aquifer is that the water level is below the top of the aquifer. Located just north of El Dorado on the El Dorado Chemical plant site, the USGS Monsanto real-time monitoring well's April 2017 depth to water is 258.8 ft. below land surface. The deepest measurement at the Monsanto well in October 2001 was 379.7 ft. below land surface. The top of the aquifer at the Monsanto well* is about 228 ft. below land surface. In October 2001 the water level was 148.3 ft. below the top of the aquifer. The Monsanto well’s recovery since October 2001 is about 117.5 ft., with the April 2017 water level about 30.8 ft. below the top of the aquifer, or about 79.7 percent of the way to the top of the aquifer since October 2001.” --*The top of the aquifer varies at each of the eight USGS Real-Time Well locations.
