Prayer is a powerful force for those in need of healing, comfort, strength, and encouragement. It can also be a

blessing for the ones offering the prayer. The good thing about being an email Prayer Partner is that you can pray

for those in need at anytime and from any place you may be when you receive the request. This prayer ministry is a

part of our church’s Congregational Care Committee who are responsible for caring for the needs of our Church

Family and/or others as requested. At the present time there are 193 email and phone Prayer Partners involved. If

Fall “Food for Thought” Series

“Beatitudes from the Backside” Come join us for an interesting study of the Beatitudes using the book “Beatitudes from the Backside” by Ellsworth Kalas. The Fall “Food for Thought” series will have ten fellow church members leading the discussions in six sessions. These programs will be held in the Family Life Center (Gym) at South Aiken Presbyterian Church. The children’s program, “Kids on a Mission”, will be lead by Allison Kelly and Nancy Hufford. Nursery will be provided. 5:30 – 6:00 Dinner $5.00 for adults and FREE for children under the age of 16 6:00 – 7:00 Presentation and a follow up question and answer period. Worship at Friendship Baptist Church

Our congregation has been invited once again to worship with Friendship Baptist Church today at

11:00 AM. There will be no 11:00 AM worship at SAPC. Sunday School will begin as scheduled, but

those wishing to worship at Friendship may be dismissed early. Nursery will be provided and

Children's Church is available at FBC. Friendship Baptist is also inviting us as their guests to a

luncheon following the service.

Friendship Baptist Church is located at 515 Richland Ave, Aiken, SC 29801. Printed directions from

SAPC to Friendship Baptist will be available in the Narthex and outside the church office.

Help Fight Multiple Sclerosis The 29th annual MS Bike fund raiser will be held October 18-19, 2014. Over 2,000 people will bicycle to the Myrtle Beach area over the two days, a distance of 150 miles. Last year the event raised over $1 million to help fight MS. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis of loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease. I am planning to be part of the event and I am asking you to join me in the movement to create a world free of MS by making a contribution. Your support will help me meet my personal fundraising goal of $500.00 and will help the Mid-Atlantic Chapter continue to offer programs and services to the more than 8,000 individuals in the Carolinas living with MS. Over the past 12 year you have helped me raise over $7,000 toward this endeavor. I thank you. I will be in the hallway outside the Church Library today after each service and ask for your pledge of support. Please come by and help fight this devastating disease. World Communion Day We are looking for some volunteers to share their love of a different culture and language on World Communion Day, October 5. During the responsive reading, we would like for several readers to respond in a different language. You are also welcome to wear the traditional clothing of the country you are representing. For example if you can speak German and also have Lederhosen, we would love for you to wear them that day. Even if you do not want to be a reader, join the fun and wear the traditional clothing of a country of your choice. I know there are a few of our members with some kilts and tartans! The Session has approved a 3 Sunday Commitment Season in October. Commitment Sundays will be October 5, 12, and 19. Commitment Booklets were mailed September 23 to our SAPC members and friends. This year we are collecting the booklets similar to last year. You may place them in the basket held by Stewardship Committee members upon exiting the Sanctuary after each service. If you do not receive a booklet in the mail, extra copies will be available in the church office, in the Narthex, and on the table in the hallway behind the Sanctuary. This year we are asking you to consider that an Associate Pastor for Youth and Outreach will be joining the staff of our church and will be on board for all of 2015.

Please consider increasing your pledge to support this vital ministry. Our youth are our future.

Communion Notes for October 5 The sacrament of Communion will be observed next Sunday. Please remember that this Table belongs to the Lord and our Savior invites all those who trust in him to share in the feast that he has prepared. At the 8:45 service, the elements will be served by officers to those seated in the pews. Worshippers are reminded to hold the bread and the cup until all have been served. We will consume the elements together as a sign of our unity in Christ. During the 11:00 service, worshippers will be invited to file forward down the center aisle to receive the elements from our full communion ware by taking a piece of bread from a plate and a cup of juice from a tray. After individually consuming each element, participants will return to their pews by the outside aisles. The sacrament can be brought to those that have mobility issues. Simply alert an usher before the service or a communion server of this request during the sacrament.

From A Hallmark Card I’ve been thinking about your situation and wondering why we sometimes have to go through times like these. I’m reminded of how grapevines have to be pruned back . . . Sometimes the pruning is so severe that you wonder how the vines will ever recover. But the prunings give the roots the strength they need to grow deep and strong. When the vines recover, they bear even more fruit and have the added strength to withstand storms and drought. Maybe we go through pruning times, too, and although it may seem that the pruning is too harsh and lasts too long, in time we emerge more productive, stronger, and wiser . . . October 24 & 25 - An eventful overnight trip to the Hendersonville, NC area is planned for these dates. Our itinerary will be packed full of visits to new points of interest, as well as an opportunity to pick your own apples, if you so choose, or just buy what you want from the stand. Additional tours and activities on the way up will include: a stop at the Anderson County Museum and a tour of the World of Energy provided by Duke Power. The first evening we will attend a concert, Music on the Rock: John Denver, a very popular concert featuring some of Denver’s greatest hits; performed by extraordinary singers, with a late night stop at the Biltmore Ice Cream Parlor for a “nite-cap” of ice cream, naturally. After a restful nights stay in Hendersonville it’s off to an apple orchard to pick or pick-up your apples, followed by sightseeing at beautiful Pearson Falls and then on for a tour of the HollyWild a 100 acre animal park featuring nearly 500 rare and exotic animals with Safari Rides and animal feeding stations. This park is a sanctuary for animals that have been retired from the Hollywood movie making industry. Oh yes, let’s not forget good fellowship on and off of the bus as well as the opportunity to shop. A good time should be had by all! Cost will be about $92.00 pp/do including $10.00 to ride our bus. There will be 4 additional meals. Deadline is October 5.

December 5 - 7 - A two night trip to Myrtle Beach is planned for these dates so go ahead and sign-up on the new sheet posted in the back hall as soon as possible. Anyone interested in going is encouraged to put your names on the list early since the number of rooms reserved are limited. Cost is approximately $188.00 pp/do which includes $10.00 to ride the bus. There will be 6 additional meals, not included. As usual this cost includes: 2 nights lodging with deluxe complimentary breakfasts and 2 shows. Shows will be listed at a later date. Deadline is November 16.

Festival of Hymns

be a special "Hymn Festival and Piano Recital" in the

SAPC Sanctuary on October 5 at 4:00 PM. This festival

will be filled with music and joy! The choir will lead us

in singing and some information about the hymnal will

also be shared. We hope you will join us.

CALLED CONGREGATIONAL MEETING Session has called for a Congregational Meeting to be held immediately following the 11:00 AM service on Sunday, October 5, 2014, for the purpose of voting on a new Associate Pastor for Youth and Outreach at SAPC. The candidate is Erin Gaston.

NURSERY AND CHILDREN’S CHURCH Infants are welcome in the Nursery during our 8:45 AM and 11:00 AM worship services and during our 10:00 AM Sunday School hour. During the 8:45 AM worship service children are invited to go to the Nursery or stay in the worship service. During the 11:00 AM worship service, 3 years-1st grade children are welcome to join our Children's Church Worship program following the Children's Moment. Chaperones will escort the children to the Fellowship Hall (down the back hallway and on the right) and you may pick your child up there after the worship service.
