SOURIS SCHOOL NEWSLETTER http://schools.shmb.ca/sci. Number 17, May 3, 2013 NEWS FROM MR. WILLIAMS We were sure lucky to have missed the big dump of snow that several communities received to the north of here. The town of Plumas, which is north of Gladstone, reported between 35 cm and 45 cm of snow Tuesday. Whew! As Maxwell Smart would say... “Missed us by that much!” Children, feel free to ask your parents who Maxwell Smart is. Performances of the school musical, A Kidsummer Night’s Dream, continue tonight and tomorrow. The students have been hard at work for the past couple of months preparing for this event and are looking forward to performing in front of a packed house. All shows begin at 7:30 PM in the Souris School gym. Rugby season finally began this week. Both teams will be very busy over the next couple of weeks as they try to fit their respective league schedules around their tour to Calgary next week. Good luck on your tour, ladies and gentlemen. I know you will represent our school with class and dignity. Badminton season wraps up this weekend with Provincials in Winnipeg. Good luck to all of our athletes who are participating in this event. Today was the last day for our eight (8) student teachers. Each of them has been here for the past seven (7) weeks. For four (4) of these student-teachers this was their second of four placements and they will be returning to school in the fall. However, for the other four (4) student- teachers, this was their last placement prior to graduation. I would like to wish each and every one of them the best of luck next year. As well, I would like to thank all of our cooperating teachers who have graciously provided these prospective teachers with the opportunity to further develop their skills in the classroom. Have a great weekend. Mother’s Day is fast approaching! The Social Justice Fighters have a great way for you to show your MOM you appreciate all she does for you! May 8 th and 9 th we will be selling We are LOVE buttons for $2.00 each. CAMPBELL’S SOUP “LABELS FOR EDUCATION” THANK YOU to everyone who clips and saves those labels and UPC codes. If you use these products then save those labels – Campbell’s Condensed soup, Chunky soup, Broth, Ramen Hearty Noodles, Ramen Hearty Noodles, Ready to serve soup, Habitant, Gardennay, Soup at Hand, V8Soups, Easy cooking sauces along with Prego sauce, V8 Splash/Fusion, Pace Salsa, Goldfish crackers. Collection bins are at the school, Big Way and Robbins Fine Foods. It seems like a lot of work but the labels would be just heading to the garbage anyways. The school appreciates everyone that has supported this program, so keep onsaving those labels. Remember, both the label and UPC are needed. •Glenda McConnell
