WILLIAMS We were sure lucky to have missed the big dump of snow that several communities received to the north of here. The town of Plumas, which is north of Gladstone, reported between 35 cm and 45 cm of snow Tuesday. Whew! As Maxwell Smart would say... “Missed us by that much!” Children, feel free to ask your parents who Maxwell Smart is. Performances of the school musical, A Kidsummer Night’s Dream, continue tonight and tomorrow. The students have been hard at work for the past couple of months preparing for this event and are looking forward to performing in front of a packed house. All shows begin at 7:30 PM in the Souris School gym. Rugby season finally began this week. Both teams will be very busy over the next couple of weeks as they try to fit their respective league schedules around their tour to Calgary next week. Good luck on your tour, ladies and gentlemen. I know you will represent our school with class and dignity. Badminton season wraps up this weekend with Provincials in Winnipeg. Good luck to all of our athletes who are participating in this event. Today was the last day for our eight (8) student teachers. Each of them has been here for the past seven (7) weeks. For four (4) of these student-teachers this was their second of four placements and they will be returning to school in the fall. However, for the other four (4) student-teachers, this was their last placement prior to graduation. I would like to wish each and every one of them the best of luck next year. As well, I would like to thank all of our cooperating teachers who have graciously provided these prospective

teachers with the opportunity to further develop their skills in the classroom. Have a great weekend.

CAREER EXPLORATION NEWS Forms for Historica – “Encounters with Canada” have arrived. This is an “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity that allows youth from across the country to come together. The committee will start their selection in the very near future. Encounters is a weeklong seminar held at the Terry Fox Canadian Youth Centre in Ottawa. For more information and forms, please stop in at the career center. Thanks goes to out to the Manitoba Student Aid Branch at Brandon. They hosted an excellent presentation for the Grade 12’s last week. June 1 is start date when students can apply online for their

post secondary student loans. Applications can take from 6 to 8 weeks. This year’s Grad preparations are well underway. Grade 12’s have until the end of the month to submit their applications for the local scholarships to the Career Center. •Mrs. Puhach & Mrs. Farmer KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION The school is now accepting registration for Kindergarten students for the 2013-2014 school year. Parents who have children of Kindergarten age are asked to register these children with the school secretary between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday at the school office. Parents are asked to bring their child’s birth certificate when they come to register, so we can make a copy for our files. Children must be five years of age on or before December 31st, 2013. Anyone who is aware of neighbors and friends who may have children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall are asked to pass the message on to them to assist with our school planning. Good Luck to Sarah Paulson as sheto competes in the High School Badminton Championships in Winnipeg, Sheldon Kowalchuk and Carter Suski also qualified, but will be playing rugby in Swan River and Dauphin. •Denny Quigley RUGBY The Varsity Rugby teams kicked off the 2013 season on Tuesday hosting the Vincent Massey Vikings. Old man winter continues to hang around and the Sabres had to play through the wind and snow. The girls got off to a great start and controlled most of the game and won the game 42-10. Leading the way was rookie Kristen Leverington scoring 3 tries. Maggie Murphy punched over two tries and scoring singles were Kristen Kirkpatrick, Jessie Robbins and Emma Boisvert. Charlotte West added a convert. The Boys also started really well and defeated the Vikings 50-0. Sheldon Kowalchuk had a great game scoring 3 tries and kicking 5 converts. Also scoring for the Sabres were Conrad May with 2 tries and Tyler Petersen, Seth Walker and Dennis Pozo with 1 try each. Special mention goes to Sheldon Kowalchuk for landing in the mud puddle. Last night Crocus Plains came to Souris and the scores were as follows: Girls – Souris 52 – Crocus 0 Boys – Souris 45 – Crocus 5

BASKETBALL Emily Tuttosi played in the Graduating Basketball All-Star Game in Winnipeg on Saturday, April 20th. Emily helped her team to a 66-49 victory scoring 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Later in the day she was selected to the Second Team All-Manitoba Team at the Basketball Manitoba Awards Banquet. Tremendous accomplishment and awesome way to end your basketball career at Souris.
