System

Introduction The system chapter describes the architecture, the dimensions, the quantities and

different types of components used within this system.

Architecture

General The system consists of a mid-range PLC controlling up to 6 variable speed drives, each

with its own electric motor. Each drive has its own circuit breaker, each motor its own contactor. The drives can be used in factory setup mode or re-configured using the PowerSuite software. The 400 VAC three phase input is split at the mains switch for the standard 400 VAC 3 phase system and a 230 VAC input to the Phaseo power supply for the automation hardware. All drives are hardwired into the PLC. Supervision of the drives is via a full graphics HMI touch screen configured and programmed using the VijeoDesigner software. The HMI control panel is connected to the PLC using a Uni-TelWay bus. The PLC must be configured and programmed using PL7 Pro software. An illuminated beacon indicates the actual system status (on/off, motor running, awaiting acknowledgement, emergency off). The mains switch is so wired that even when the system is switched off at the mains switch, the automation system is still intact for diagnostic purposes. The software application in this example is only a minimum control application for using the drives with their factory setup. The hardware, however, has been selected with the intention of processing additional I/O. Options: The system has a category 4 safety level option with Preventa module supervised contactors for the drives. This safety module not only protects the drives but is also invoked by the emergency stop. The system has a second option of a category 3 safety level supervision for automatic stoppage of the motors if any of their enclosures are opened. This gives an overall category 3 safety level for the system. Note, the safety module for the VSDs has its own power supply. In the case of a safety event, the safety modules must be acknowledged before the system can be reset/restarted. An optional gateway (TSX ETZxx) can be added to communicate via TCP/IP connection with higher level systems. (options are shown in the layout in dotted line rectangles)

Degree of Protection

Not all the components in this configuration are designed for use in the same environmental conditions. Some components may need additional protection depending on the environment in which you intend to use them. For exact environmental details of the individual components please refer to the appropriate product manual.

Safety Notice As there are no moving mechanical parts in this application example, category 3

(according to EN954-1) has been selected as an optional safety level. However, the standard and level of safety you apply to your application is determined by your system design and the overall extent to which your system may be a hazard to people and machinery. Whether or not safety category 3 should be applied to your system should be ascertained with a proper risk analysis. This document is not comprehensive for any systems using the given architecture and does not absolve users of their duty to uphold the safety requirements with respect to the equipment used in their systems nor of compliance with either national or international safety laws and regulations.

Dimensions The compact size of the PLC, the power supply and the Altivars permit the use of a

compact housing of the size 800 x 1200 x 400 mm (WxHxD). The HMI unit is fitted with brackets for fixing into a cut-out in the front door of the housing. The AC motors are installed on the machine(s).

software for the described application.

Function PLC Program / HMI Controls The user can supervise up to 6 Altivar drives using the full graphics touchpanel of the Magelis HMI. The drives are hardwired into the PLC. The PLC has a Uni-Telway bus connection to the HMI. There is also a TSX ETZ option that can be configured as a gateway to an Ethernet network. The HMI consists of 3 displays on the Magelis. After switching on, once the Magelis HMI has connected to the PLC, it offers you a screen to select either all motors simultaneously or select an individual motor. A Selection on the first screen switches you automatically to the next screen which, depending on your selection from the first screen, offers you supervision over the single motor selected or all motors. You can now use the start\stop buttons to start or stop all or one of the motors and select the direction of rotation using the left or right buttons. The buttons in the individual motor screens (not the screen for all motors) reflect the current motor status by changing the colour of the buttons to the actual status of the individual motor (red=inactive, green=active) The indicator beacon has a red, green, blue and white lamp. White = system powered up (indicator is only off when no current flowing) Red = Emergency stop was pressed Green = at least one of the motors is running Blue = acknowledgement of emergency stop or safety event is expected After switching on at the mains, the system is in safe mode, i.e. the blue acknowledgement buttons must be pushed before the drives can be powered up and the motors can be started. Pressing the emergency stop or opening any motor protection doors (operation of safety interlock switch) causes the system to close down and the blue light to light up. Starting a motor causes the green light to be lit. Only when all motors are off is the green light off. Note: The I/O points listed below are a minimal set to test the system and motor hardware connections as shown in the architecture. They do not represent a comprehensive collection of I/O points required for control and display in an industrial application. Optional: The optional safety functions implemented with the Preventa module include supervision of a redundant overload contactor for all the attached Altivar drives and also supervision of the doors to cabinets containing the motors (here represented by a single movement sensor). Should the door to a cabinet be opened the motors are all stopped immediately and an acknowledgement is required before restart is possible. Note, shut down of a single motor or the entire mechanical system, i.e. the occurrence of a safety event, does not stop the PLC. Once the safety system has been invoked by a safety event, an acknowledgement must be given before the system can be reset/restarted. For system supervision, using a SCADA system for example, an optional gateway to an Ethernet system can be connected by Uni-Telway bus to the PLC.

Hardware

General • The power supplies, fuses, contactors and circuit breakers require a DIN rail for

mounting. • The HMI requires a cut-out in the housing door and can be fixed in place with the

brackets supplied with the Magelis unit. • The AC motors can be mounted directly on the machine with a metal flange. • Use M5*18mm bolts and screws and 35mm DIN railing for the mountings. • 230 VAC wiring connects the mains switch to the power supply. • 400 VAC wiring connects the mains switch to the contactors and drives. • 24 VDC wiring connects the power supply to the PLC, the HMI, the acknowledgement

buttons, the warning lights and the safety modules.

Software

General In order to use the programming and configurations software (PL7 Micro for the

micro, PowerSuite for the VSDs and VijeoDesigner for Magelis) your PC requires an installed Microsoft Windows operating system, either Windows2000 or WindowsXP. To configure the Altivar drives, you do not necessarily need the PowerSuite package. You can configure the Altivars using the front panel on the devices themselves, however for more comfort, testing, scenario simulation and archiving of the final configuration, PowerSuite is recommended. To start the install of a particular software package, insert the appropriate CD into your CD or DVD drive. The CD starts up automatically if you have activated the „Autostart“ function in the windows operating system. If you encounter difficulties consult the installation manual of the individual product you are currently installing. The default installation paths for the above software are: • PL7 Junior \PL7\ • Vijeo-Designer \Programs\Schneider Electric\Vijeo-Designer • PowerSuite \Programs\Schneider Electric\PowerSuite

Communication

General The architecture presented here requires no bus system, however, the

communication between the PLC and the full graphics touchpanel Magelis (HMI) is established using Uni-Telway protocol. Use the TER socket on the PLC for this. Option: Using the TSX ETZ 410/510 gateway you can connect to a higher level system using TCP/IP protocol. See the ETZ user manual for the configuration using the PLC communications adapter card TSX SCP 114.

Implementation

Introduction The implementation chapter describes all the steps necessary to initialise, configure

to program and start-up the system.

Function Functional description PLC Program / HMI Display

1. After switching on the mains you must reset the safety modules with their

individual acknowledgement buttons and turn on the mains connection to the drives. Once the HMI has established the link to the PLC you can supervise the motors using the HMI display. The Altivar VSDs can be put into “run” mode by either selecting the individual motor number or all motors simultaneously.

2. After a “Power Up” the VSDs are in manual mode. In this mode, the user has

access to the state machine of the drive controllers. The VSDs can be manually stopped and started. Using the HMI screens the operator can start, stop, and reverse the rotation of the motors. Note, the speed of the motors is set at a constant value and cannot be changed except by changing the speed parameters on the VSDs.

Procedure In order to implement the system in the shortest possible time it is recommended

that you proceed as follows: • Configure the hardware and I/O on the PLC with PL7 • Create the application program for the PLC with PL7 • Create the HMI displays on the Magelis with Vijeo Designer • Configure the Altivars with PowerSuite This procedure ensures that the configuration data can be either imported or manually input without conflicting definitions for the software.

PLC

Introduction The PLC chapter describes the steps required for the initialisation, Configuration and

the program logic required to fulfill the functions. The application program is produced using PL7. PL7 requires no special function blocks for the programming, only standard functions are used. To implement the PLC the following steps are required: • Create a new project (name the project) • Configure the software • Configure the hardware (CPU and I/O modules) • Configure the Uni-TelWay communication • Create new variables with symbolic names and text • Create an application program section • Create the application program • Define the PLC address • Connect to the PLC • Download the application to the PLC

Create a New Project After starting PL7: With File->New, create a new project and select the correct PLC type. Check the label on the PLC itself for the software (i.e. firmware) version number.

Software Configuration Use the Configuration dialog to configure the number of system words required.

Hardware Configuration (CPU + I/O Modules) Using the application browser, open the hardware configuration. You should see the CPU type you already selected: TSX3721001.

Configure the Hardware (CPU and I/O Modules) Right mouseclick on Hardware Configuration in the application browser to open the hardware configuration dialog. You will see the chosen PLC type already selected, CPU TSX3721. Note the rack is empty except for the CPU. Now you must insert the I/O modules

Use mouse double-click on the slot to open a selection window. Choose the module required. Repeat this for all the I/O modules.

Once you have inserted all the modules your configuration should look like this.

Configure the Uni-Telway communication Right mouse-click on the COMM Module of the CPU and open the module.

Configure the Uni-Telway Master „Channel 0“ appears in the configuration dialog This is the TER interface on the front of the CPU module. Select the Uni-Telway link for the HMI device.

Create a New Panel

An Empty panel

Use the toolbar to insert objects into the panel Click on the button icon in the toolbar. Now click on the panel and draw the mouse to get the size of button you want. Once drawn, double click on the object to get the properties dialog for the object.

Use either the properties inspector or the object dialog (in this case the switch settings dialog) to give your object colours, text, actions and program code (in Java) Note the Tabs in the dialog window.

Here a button with scripts that react to certain events (when touched, while touched, when released) Note: in this simple program the names of objects offered by the tool as default were left as they were. You should take the time and trouble to give your objects sensible names so that you can recognise them at a future date.

An example of a Script: This script is attached to button 6 on the first panel. It writes the motor number (6) to an internal variable when the button for motor number 6 is pressed. This number is passed on to the “change panel[2]” script. “Change Panel” causes the next panel to be displayed with the status of motor number 6

Downloading the project to the Magelis (HMI) Select the project in the Navigator. Using either a right mouse click on the project name or the menu Build. Select Download All to transfer the project to the HMI device. The transfer is done using the configured protocol (serial or Ethernet). The Vijeo Designer standard package contains a serial cable. HMI Screens for the application: This is the first screen you see once the HMI has established the connection with the PLC. This is the Main Menu. Choose either ALL or a single motor to be supervised.

Supervising a single motor The screen changes to the status of the motor selected; the motor number is indicated at the top of the screen. Press start and left or right and the motor rotates in that direction. The selected button changes to green if the command was successfully carried out (and its opposite button turns to red). Main Menu returns you to the first screen shown above.

Supervising ALL motors Here, pressed buttons apply to all 6 motors. The buttons in this screen do not change colour. You must refer to the individual motor screen to inspect the actual status of that motor. Main Menu returns you to the first screen

Introduction This section describes how to configure the parameters for the Altivar VSD. You can

input the Altivar parameters using the programming panel on the device itself (optional). However, the big advantage of using PowerSuite is that you can store the data on your PC and also have the possibility to print and document this information. The software is also an aid to invoking the Altivar and optimising the parameters in online mode. NOTE: The factory settings in your version of PowerSuite may be different to those delivered on the actual device. If you wish to ensure that you start with the same base configuration on device and in PowerSuite, it is recommended that you upload the configuration from the Altivar before making any changes in the factory settings. If you change the settings on the Altivar, the factory settings can be restored by setting the FCS function in the control menu DRC using the front panel of the Altivar. For the given example we use mainly the factory settings on the Altivar. The following parameters, however, have to be changed and you can view them with the following values on the front panel of the Altivar: In menu I/O: TCT = LEL i.e. Two wire control uses values 0 or 1 In menu Functions: STC->NST = No i.e. Freewheel Stop is not assigned In menu Faults: ATR = Yes i.e. Automatic Restart RSF = LI1 i.e. Fault Reset controlled by Logic Input 1 ETF = No i.e. No external Fault Configuring and setting up the parameters of the Altivar consists of: • Altivar wiring for the signal interface • PowerSuite Start • Create a device • Create a configuration for the device • Edit the configuration parameters • Save the configuration • Download the configuration to the Altivar • Simulate the configuration

Layout of Altivar 31 RJ54-Interface. The RJ45-Connection is found behind the front panel of the Altivar and is the communications interface of the device. It is used for connecting the Altivar to a PC (i.e. with PowerSuite) or a hand held HMI device. You can use this interface to run the PowerSuite simulator.

Start PowerSuite Use File->New->Device to create a new device. Give your device a name and select the drive type. Now you must attach a configuration to the device.

Use Display->Configurations to list your configurations in the project browser. At the moment the list is empty. Select the device type in My configurations in the project browser i.e. ATV31 then, select file->new->configuration to open the configuration creation dialog

In the configuration dialog give the configuration a name and select the reference device – ATV31H037N4. Note: The new configuration is created using the factory settings as found in the PowerSuite tool. As software tools change independently of hardware, the settings in your PowerSuite version may be different to those actually delivered with the Altivar. If you wish to be sure of working with the factory settings of your device as it was delivered, you must upload them from the device first. The configuration name will appear in the project browser under My configurations after you exit the dialog with OK

Double click on the Configuration name in the browser and the configuration window opens. Here you find the different parameter groups for the drive. When the configuration is newly created the parameters are set at the factory settings. Here we need to make a few changes. Note: you can input these changes on the front panel of the Altivar itself. In the Inputs/Outputs group Set TCT = Level Triggered (LEL)

Altivar Variable Speed Drive ATV31H037N4

The Altivar 31 drive is a frequency inverter for 3-phase squirrel cage asynchronous motors. The Altivar 31 is robust, compact, easy to use and conforms to EN 50178, IEC/EN 61800-2, IEC/EN 61800-3 standards UL/CSA certification and to CE marking. The configuration files generated by the PowerSuite software can be: • saved to hard disk, CD-Rom, floppy disk, etc... • printed, • exported to office automation software applications, • exchanged between a PC and a Pocket PC using standard synchronization

software. PowerSuite PC and Pocket PC configuration files have the same format, they are password protected.
