SOUPER SATURDAY Postcard Art Sale Saturday 25th of October @SouperSaturday soupersaturdayblog.wordpress.com Souper Saturday is a food and social service, mainly for homeless people but open to anybody. The service runs just once a week, at St John’s Church on Princes Street, from 8.20am until 2pm, serving porridge then hot soup and sandwiches. We are entirely dependent upon donations, working in partnership with Fare Share (from whom we purchase ingredients at a discounted rate). At the moment we fund this with small monetary donations from the public, mainly from friends and acquaintances. Souper Saturday is a ‘faith neutral’ project and most of our volunteers and staff are not religious. We value this status and have the assurance of the church that we will not be under pressure to involve any religious aspect to our work. We value help from and provide help for anybody of any background. Souper Saturday makes a real difference to those who attend on a weekly basis, providing them with food as well as some temporary shelter and welcome social interaction with our amazing band of volunteer helpers. However, without us raising funds we are not able to provide this valuable support. With this in mind, I am looking to hold a sale of postcard art. Blank cards will be provided to anyone who agrees to donate work. Each card should be an original work of art, i.e. a drawing, painting, print, collage or needlework - as long as it fits in the envelope. Each piece will be sold anonymously and only signed on the back, which will not be visible to the purchaser. The works will be sold for a minimum £20 each whether created by a professional artist or five year old child, so hopefully someone will get themselves a bargain and many people who couldn’t otherwise afford it will be able to own a work of art. People can choose to pay more, however owning a valuable work for very little is very much in keeping with our egalitarian ethos. Contact me or Karen to obtain a postcard and envelope.
