MAY JUNE 2011 est 1965 The Guidance Department has released the annual list of where the graduating seniors will be headed next fall. According to Director of Guidance, Mr. John Hanrahan, the list is both an impressive and appropriate one. “I am pleased for our seniors that they earned the opportunity to select these extraordinary and appropriate colleges and universities at which to continue their personal and intellectual growth. The full list of colleges to which our seniors gained admission is a powerful indication of their accomplishments and to the thoroughness which they brought to the college investigation and application process,” Mr. Hanrahan said. For a complete list of where our seniors will be going next year, see our news section. Where is the Class of 2011 going? On June 5 th , the Fairfield Prep Seniors will enter Alumni Hall for their final service together and graduate after four interesting, exciting, and memoryfilled years of high school together. This brings about a very strange bittersweet feeling for all seniors, as they plan to experience the next step in their lives; however, all the seniors are very excited and joyful for this wonderful time that they get to share together. At this year’s graduation, members of the class of 1961 will be honored with their golden diplomas as they reunite for their 50 th year graduation anniversary. They will be joining the class of 2011 for the graduation ceremonies and it will be a wonderful experience to have two classes receiving diplomas for their time spent at Fairfield Prep, a time devoted to hard work, service, and extracurricular and athletic activity. Although the seniors may think that their four years at Prep flew by, their experiences will last a lifetime as they look back at the great times they have shared.  Dear  Readers,    It   is   truly   amazing   when   I   think   about   where   we   have   come   as   a  publication—as  a   club  of   Fairfield  Prep.    Before   I   leave  you,   I  must  thank  a  series  of  people  who  have  helped  Soundings  blossom  into  the  wonderful  newspaper  it  has  become.    The   first   person   I   talked   to   about   creating   a   “new   Soundings”  was  Mrs.  Clark—thank  you  for  inspiring  me  to  work  on  this  project.    Your  guidance   has   been   so   valuable.     Thank   you   to   Fr.   Hanwell,   SJ,   Dr.  Perrotta,   Dr.   Andrade,   Mr.   Marshall,   Mr.   Bramble,   Ms.   Kaye,   Mrs.  Hoover,   Mr.   Hanrahan   and   all   faculty   and   staff   for   supporting   our  efforts.    We  greatly  appreciate  it.    Mrs.  Colleen  Adams  and  Mrs.  Beyerly  –  thank  you  for  being  the  best  copy  editors  a  newspaper  could  ask  for!    I  must  thank  the  team  of  editors.    You  have  all  worked  so  hard.    When  I  first  began  writing  for  Soundings,  I  was  on  a  staff  that  consisted  of  me  and  two  other  people.    It’s  remarkable  to  see  where  we’ve  come.    None  of  this  would  have  been  possible  without  you  guys.    And  thanks  to  Eric  Hoffman  ’12  for  creating  those  fantastic  headings.    Max  Rein,  my  partner   in  crime  —  thanks   for  putting  up  with  me.     I  wouldn’t  have  been  able  to  do  this  without  your  help.    Looking  forward,  I  thank  Ethan  Doerger—my  trusty  sports  editor—for  agreeing  to  take  over  for  me  next  year.    I  have  complete  faith  that  this  program  will  continue  to  grow  with  you  at  the  helm.    Lastly   and  perhaps  most   importantly,   I  must   thank  you,   reader,   for  your   continued   support.     I   hope   reading   these   pages   has   meant  something  to  you  —  it  certainly  has  for  me.

AP  Exams:  Scary  or  helpful?

BY  MAX  REIN  ‘11                        With  the  year  winding  down  and  classes   coming   to   an   end,  upperclassmen   are   preparing   for  the  Advanced  Placement  exams   for  classes   like   Physics,   Calculus,  United   States   History,   and   the  English   Language   as   well   as   many  others.   Although   most   students  dread   taking   these   strenuous   and  very  prolonged  exams,  the  AP  exam  can   provide   many   outstanding  opportunities   in   college   including  giving   credit   in   certain   classes   and  allowing   students   to   test   out   of   a  certain  lower-‐level  class  in  order  to  move   up   into   a   more   advanced  section  of  the  course.            AP   tests   are   given  within   a   two-‐week  period  every  year  in  May  and  are   administered   at   the   same   time  all   over   the   nation.   The   Advanced  Placement   courses   at   Prep   reflect  many  college   level  courses  at  some  the  most  competitive  universities  in  the   nation.   AP   exams   may   be  regarded  as  difficult  tests;  however,  with   the   excellent   teachers   and  preparation  materials,  any  prepster  can  succeed.

BY  MAX  REIN  ‘11              A   Baccalaureate   Mass   is   a   celebration   that   honors   the   graduating   senior  class  of  a  college  or  high  school  and  is  most  often  of  religious  nature.  At  Prep,  it  is   a   wonderful   mass   to   celebrate   each   and   every   senior   for   his   outstanding  work  during  the  last  four  years.  Numerous  academic  and  leadership  awards  are  given  at  the  Baccalaureate  Mass  to  recognize  those  students  who  have  excelled  in  all  aspects  of  their  prep  career.  Additionally,  it  is  a  nice  time  for  the  seniors  at  Prep   to  gather   together  before  graduation  and  experience  one   final  mass  as  a  community.  The  Jesuits,  teachers,  and  administration  present  bestow  their  final  blessing   on   the   senior   class   and  watch   as   the   graduating   seniors   share   their  final  moments  together.

BY  ETHAN  DOERGER  ‘13                The Fairfield Prep baseball team took a big hit this past year when it lost 11 seniors, particularly All-State right fielder Connor Marr and 2/3 of their starting rotation. However, with new talent and more hope, coach Rudy Mauritz is ready to see his team get better than ever. After an 11-3 victory in a scrimmage with Fairfield Ludlow, that was even more cause for optimism.   Not surprisingly, what is left of last season’s team led the way. Anthony Redamonti, senior and ace of the pitching staff, threw 3 innings allowing 2 runs (1 unearned) while striking out two. Shortstop Alex Heiman had a 2-run double and second baseman Matt D’Ambrissi made several stops at his position. Redamonti also had a 2-run triple in the 3rd inning, using both his bat and his arm to give the Jesuits an early W. Despite the win, coach Mauritz feels the team could’ve played better. “Too many careless mistakes,” he said after the game. “Twice, we had pickoff throws that went wide, twice!” Still, it looks as though Prep will look to be a dark horse in the SCC’s and states once again.

Crew  becomes  Varisty  sport  BY  BRANDON  YEP    ‘13

The  Fairfield  Prep  crew  team  has  just  been  declared  as  a  varsity  sport.  Starting  in  2005,  the  crew  team  started  out  as  an  extracurricular  club  led  by  current  head  coach  John  Turner.  Today,  it  is  a,  “rocket  ship,”  as  John  Turner  said  of  committed  and  hard-‐working  rowers.  Crew,  known  as  rowing,  is  a  sport  that  may  be  unknown  to  a  few  at  Prep.  It  is  basically  where  you  have  four  or  eight  men  in  a  racing  shell  (boat),  rowing  down  the  river  as  fast  as  they  can  with  as  much  technique  as  they  can.  They  are  lead  by  a  coxswain,  who  is  in  charge  of  keeping  the  boat  in  control  and  on  course.  There  are  three  categories  that  Prep  crew  has  in  terms  of  rowers:  heavyweight  (rowers  over  155  lbs.),  lightweight  (rowers  below  155  lbs.),  and  novice  (first-‐year  rowers).    These  rowers  row  against  other  rowers  in  their  category.  During  the  spring  season,  the  races  are  sprint  races,  which  mean  that  they  are  short  and  that  all  the  boats  are  lined  up  in  lanes  next  to  each  other.  During  the  fall  season,  the  races  are  longer  and  are  not  based  on  the  lane-‐system  of  who  comes  in  first  but  are  based  on  the  time  it  takes  a  crew  to  complete  the  course.    .    The  spring  season  is  considered  the  more  competitive  one  as  it  the  races  are  shorter  and  are  in  lanes,  posing  the  greater  opportunity  (cont.  next  page)

NBA PLAYOFFS REACH

CONFERENCE FINALS

BY JAMES TERRY ‘11

The NBA has entered the Conference Championship round. This means only four teams are left in the quest for the 2011 NBA Championship. In the Western Conference, many were surprised when the Dallas Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round. Currently, Dallas is facing the young Oklahoma City Thunder, a team that just won a thrilling seven game series against the Memphis Grizzlies. In the Eastern Conference, only the top two seeds remain. The Chicago Bulls, who were the number one seed in the East, defeated the Indiana Pacers in the first round before beating the Atlanta Hawks to get to this round. The Miami Heat’s talented “Big Three” easily defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round and then went on to beat the Boston Celtics, who won the Eastern Conference last year in five games. PREDICTION: Dallas Mavericks over Chicago Bulls in Six Games

OVERTIME HOCKEY MAKES NHL PLAYOFFS INTERSTING BYJAMES TERRY ‘11

This year, the NHL is having one of the most exciting playoffs in league history. Many of the series have included thrilling “Game Sevens” and a lot of games have been decided in overtime. The Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning are currently matching up in the Eastern Conference Finals. Tampa Bay beat the East’s number one seed, the Washington Capitals to get into this round while Boston defeated the Philadelphia Flyers. On the other side of the bracket, the number one seeded Vancouver Canucks are facing off with the San Jose Sharks. Keep an eye on hockey as the NHL playoffs finish up because each team is very talented and the race for the Stanly Cup is still wide open. PREDICTION: Boston Bruins over Vancouver Canucks in Six Games

Rugby Prepares for State Tournament

BY JAMES TERRY ‘11 On Saturday April 30th, the

Fairfield Prep rugby team traveled to Greenwich High School for another installment of the Prep-Greenwich rivalry. The stakes were extremely high. The winning team would clinch the number one seed in the State Tournament and get a spot in this year’s Northeastern Tournament. Unfortunately for the Jesuits, they lost and were once again denied a spot in the Northeastern Tournament.

However, the season is not over yet. Team captains Evan Tuozzoli, Andrew Lavoie and Alex Fossi look to finish their Prep rugby careers on a high note along with the rest of the team’s fourteen seniors; Jack Atkins, Brooks Bebon, Colin Cinder, Bill Firisin, John Giordano, Alex Hauer, Vinny McAvay, J.D. McPartlan, Drew McTiernan, Tom Murphy, Kyle Piscioniere, Danny Sell, William Shea and Will Watson. Fairfield Prep will be the second seed in this year’s state tournament, which will take place on Sunday May 29th.

Prep Track hits the Record Books

BY JAMES TERRY ‘11

Between Friday April 29th and Saturday April 30th, five of Fairfield Prep’s outdoor track athletes etched their names into school history by setting school records. On April 29th, seniors Tyler Agostino and Greg Davis teamed up with junior Billy Schloth and freshman Christian Alvarado to break the school record in the 4x1600 Meter Relay at the Meeneghan Relays and junior Connor Rog set the school record at the Penn Relays. On April 30th, Agostino continued his successful weekend by becoming the first official record holder in 2 Kilometer Steeplechase.

In the 4x 1600 Meter Relay, the foursome finished with a time of 18:51 and broke a record that has been in place since 2001. “It’s great to have finally broken the record,” senior Tyler Agostino said. “Especially for Greg (Davis) and I as seniors closing out our four years running for Prep.”

Christian Alvarado was the team’s leadoff man and was in first place when he handed the baton off to Greg Davis, setting the team up to lead the race the entire way. Billy Schloth ran the fastest split time of the day, completing his leg of 1600 meters in 4:31. “It was very exciting,” Alvarado explained. “We all knew the times we had to run (for the record) and we did it!”

Connor Rog placed seventh in the High School Boy’s 3000 Meter Run at the world famous Penn Relays, a track meet hosted annually by the University of Pennsylvania that showcases the world’s best high school, college and professional track athletes. Rog’s time broke Colin Rochrord’s school record that was set in 1998 by seven seconds. “Later that afternoon (at the Meeneghan Relays) we heard that Connor (Rog) broke the school record in the 3000 Meter Run…” Agostino added. “All around it was a very good day!”

Tyler Agostino went on to continue his successful weekend at the O’Grady Relays when he became the first official school record holder in the 2 Kilometer Steeplechase, an event that has never before been recognized on the school’s record board.

The Jesuits finished the regular season with a record of 6-3. Expect them to improve on last season’s 12th place finish at the Southern Connecticut Conference Championships when they compete for the conference title on May 24th at Sheehan High School. They also look to improve on their finishes from last year’s 16th place finish at the Class LL Championship and 46th place finish at the State Open Championship later on in the year.

Crew  (continuted)  a  medal.                The  crew  team  is  currently  in  the  middle  of  their  spring  season.  After  earning  a  win  from  Xavier  High  School,  the   team  has   just   passed   the  middle-‐point.   Yet,   they   still   have   a   long   road   ahead  of   them      with   three  more  regattas  to  go  in  preparation  for  their  goal  of  the  Junior  National  Rowing  Championships.  Hoping  to  return  once  again  to  Nationals,  the  crew  team  will  have  to  pass  the  Northeast  Regional’s  held  in  Lowell  where  they  will  face  fast  crew  teams  such  as  Boston  College  High.  However,  with  hard  practice  every  day  at  Beacon  Point  Marine  and  commitment  by   the   rowers,  Fairfield  Prep  will  work  hard   to  hopefully  earn  a   spot   in   the  National’s   this  year.    It  will  all  be  determined  at  the  Northeast  Regional’s  in  Lowell.  Until  then,  the  crew  team  will  continue  to  work  hard  and  hopefully  earn  that  fourth  regatta.

BY  ETHAN  DOERGER  ‘13  Fresh off an SCC Championship and a 4th place finish in the state championships last season, the Fairfield Prep Golf team is ready for another run. Team captain Conor McGovern will play a key role in the outcome of the season for this team, as will junior Matt Mastronardi and many others. These two played well in last season’s run, with McGovern shooting a team-best 76 while Mastronardi had an 81 in states. Head coach Bob Bernier, a 3-time SCC Champion, will lead the way as the Prep Golfers look to turn more heads in their quest for a state title.

Odd  Future  —  odd  in  a  good  way

BY  MATT  CRAIGHEAD  ‘12                              Odd  Future  Wolf  Gang  Kill  Them  All,  often  abbreviated  as  OFWGKTA  or  Odd  Future,  is  a  hip-‐hop  group,  who  hail  from  Los  Angeles,  California.  The  leader  of  the  group  is  twenty  year  old  Tyler  the  Creator.  The  rest  of  the  group  features  Hodgy  Beats,  Earl  Sweatshirt,  Domo  Genesis,  Mike  G,  singer  Frank  Ocean,  producers  Left  Brain,  Syd  the  Kyd  (group’s  engineer)  and  Matt  Martians  and  other  non-‐musical  members.       Their  ages  range  from  17  to  24  years  old.  That  is  a  very  young  age  to  start  so  they  should  be  around  for  a  while  and  it  is  definitely  good  to  get  an  early  start  to  something.  Within  Odd  Future  there  are  three  groups:  MellowHype,  The  Jet  Age  of  Tomorrow,  and  Earlwolf.  MellowHype  consists  of  Hodgy  Beats  and  producer  Left  Brain.  The  Jet  Age  of  Tomorrow  consists  of  producers  Matt  Martians  and  Hal  Williams  of  the  Super  3,  and  Earlwolf  consists  of  Tyler,  the  Creator  and  Earl  Sweatshirt.     Odd  Future  has  released  four  mixtapes  and  eight  studio  albums,  all  available  for  free  on  their  website.  In  the  past  few  months,  the  group  has  been  getting  press  from  blogs  and  magazines  such  as  Rolling  Stone  and  Twitter.  Recently,  the  group  signed  with  Sony’s  Red  (record  label)  to  start  their  own  label,  Odd  Future  Records.  In  one  of  the  interviews  I  saw  on  YouTube,  the  group  talks  about  their  focus  on  keeping  their  main  man  Tyler  happy.  This  is  very  interesting  considering  that  he  is  still  a  young  kid  in  his  own  mind.  But  he  is  indeed  20  and  not  a  teenager  anymore  and  needs  to  grow  up.  The  group  is  truly  special  and  not  like  any  other  rock  band  or  rap  group  out  there.  They  should  do  well  if  they  keep  up  what  they  are  doing  to  date.  There  is  also  a  TV  show  based  on  them  coming  soon  to  Adult  Swim  on  Cartoon  Network.  The  show  has  been  described  as  “…a  mixture  of  Jackass  and  the  Chapelle’s  Show.”     The  group  was  featured  in  a  Rolling  Stone  article  a  few  weeks  back.  In  the  article,  Tyler’s  raps  were  described  as  “dazzling  blurs  of  violence,  jokes  and  emotional  bloodletting.”  Tyler  even  calls  himself  a  crybaby  and  wonders  why  people  listen  to  him.  They  are  called  “punk-‐rappers,  from  the  stripped-‐down  production  to  Tyler’s  skate-‐rat  uniform  of  cut-‐off  shorts  and  scrawled-‐on  Vans.”  They  have  catchphrases  that  attract  people  such  as,  “Kill  people,  burn  s**t,  f**k  school.”  “It’s  all  a  gimmick,”  says  Tyler.  But  the  gimmick  is  working.  The  group  has  even  gotten  praise  from  stars  like  Mos  Def  and  Kanye  West.       Tyler  the  Creator’s  debut  album,  Goblin,  came  out  on  May  9.  As  of  May  15,  it  is  number  14  on  the  charts  on  iTunes.  That  is  surprisingly  good  considering  that  he  has  only  been  around  since  2008  and  he  was  only  putting  out  free  mixtapes.  He  is  very  different  from  most  mainstream  rappers.  Therefore,  there  is  a  lot  of  controversy  about  the  album’s  content.  The  group  is  truly  special  and  not  like  any  other  rock  band  or  rap  group  out  there.  They  should  do  well  if  they  keep  up  what  they  are  doing  to  date.

Summer Movie Preview

Summer is just around the corner, and aside from going to the beach, traveling, and soaking in the sun, there are movies to be seen. But what movies are the best movies? Are you up for a comedy? A romance? A thriller? Allow me, Soundings resident movie critic, to be your summer movie guide. Here are 5 interesting movies that you should consider watching this summer. Please note that these are not ranked. BY ALEX GIOBBI ‘11

Cars 2: A year after Pixar closed out the franchise that started it all it starts a second franchise. Cars 2 begins where the Cars left off. Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is invited to race in the prestigious World Grand Prix. He invites his redneck tow truck friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) to travel around the world with him. Before the races begin, an Aston Martin spy car recruits the dimwitted Mater to work as a spy, hoping to protect Lightning from an evil German underworld boss. The film is chock full of hilarity and stars with such actors as Emily Mortimer, Jason Isaacs, Cheech Marin, and Joe Mantegna. There are also a few racecar drivers in the movie too, like Jeff Gordon and Darrell Waltrip. Overall, it should be an interesting film to watch, especially for car buffs. {Release date: 6/24} Prewatch rating: 7/10

Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides: Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is back for the 4th installment of the popular Disney film franchise, only this time, he’s on a mission to find the famous fountain of youth. Along the way, he comes across an old flame (Penelope Cruz), zombies, mermaids, even the infamous Blackbeard (Ian MacShane). The film will not feature certain characters from the previous films, like Elizabeth Swann (Kiera Knightley) or Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), but will bring back some old stars, like Jack’s father (Keith Richards), Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and the possibility of Mick Jagger as a Pirate Captain. An interesting side note: This will be the first Disney film to be rated PG-13 for reasons other than violence. {Release date: 5/20} Prewatch rating: 6/10

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II: The book and film series that defined a generation will end this summer. Harry, Ron and Hermione are now faced with finding the remaining horcruxes, robbing a bank, and returning to Hogwarts. During the epic Battle of Hogwarts, Harry’s destiny comes full circle as he attempts to kill Lord Voldemort. It’s the same actors from all of the other films, but from many of the promotional stills and trailers, I can say that the last film in the epic series will go out with a great bang. {Release date: 7/15} Prewatch rating: 10/10

Moneyball: For any baseball nut in the family, Moneyball is the screen adaptation of Michael Lewis’ first of two sports bestsellers (the other was The Blind Side, which the movie adaptation became the highest grossing sports film), which chronicles the success of the 2002 Oakland Athletics baseball team. The film revolves around sabermetric genius Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) as he wheels and deals his team to the playoffs. Although Moneyball is set to be released in September, it is on the list because of America’s national pastime plays a huge part in the summer. Aside from Brad Pitt, other stars in this film include Jonah Hill, who plays A’s assistant general manager Peter Brand, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays manager Art Howe. {Release date: 9/23} Prewatch rating: 9/10

Green Lantern: I don’t normally like superhero movies, but this is an exception. After Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) witnesses a meteor crash, in which a purple alien with a mysterious ring dies, he inherits the ring, and becomes a member of the Lanterns, who use their rings as power sources to maintain peace in the universe. The thing is, he is the first human to become a Green Lantern, and although the other green lanterns aren’t sure about him, he is destined to save the universe from being destroyed. In addition to Reynolds, there is Blake Lively, his girlfriend, Peter Saarsgard (a Prep Alum) as the villainous Dr. Hector Hammond, Tim Robbins as Hammond’s father and a US senator, Angelina Bassett and Geoffrey Rush. Overall, the film sounds interesting, not to mention the Prep presence with Saarsgard. {Release date: 6/17} Prewatch rating: 8/10

Personal  Reflecction  Why  did  Americans  care  so  much  about

the  Royal  Wedding?  BY  JOSEPH  SANFILIPPO‘13

On  April,  29  2011  Prince  William  and  Kate  Middleton  were  married.  All  I  read  about  online  and  all  that  was   talked  about  at  my  house  between  my  mom  and  sisters  was   “The  Royal  Wedding.”  My  mom  and  sisters  woke  up  at  5  am  to  watch  the  Royal  wedding  while   I  who  couldn’t  care   less  got  every  minute  of  sleep  that   I  could  get.  However  I  read  online  that  over  23  million  Americans  watched  the  royal  wedding  which  leads  me  to  the   question   “Why   do   Americans   care   about   the   royal   wedding?”   Hopefully   by   doing   extensive   research,  reading  blogs,  and  interviewing  my  family  I  will  attempt  to  answer  this  question?     Through  my   research   I   have   concluded  many  different   reasons  why   the   afore  mentioned   is   true.  The  first  reason  is  there  is  simply  a  level  of  romanticism  with  the  concept  of  royalty  and  all  of  their  extravagances  along  with   the  pomp  and  circumstance   that  we  simply  don’t  have  access   to   in  our  own  country.  The   fantasy  takes  us  to  another  place  for  a  bit,  far  away  from  all  of  the  miseries  of  our  local  economy  and  political  strife.  The  second  reason  is  that  all  little  girls  dream  about  someday  becoming  a  princess  and  this  one  of  the  few  real  life  examples.  This  is  magnified  even  more  because  Kate  Middleton  is  a  commoner.  This  gives  the  little  girl’s  dream  even  more  significance.  And  the  last  reason  although  not  the  most  important  one  is  that  the  royal  wedding  is  a  part  of  history,  a  major  world  event,  and  while   it  does  not  directly  affect  us  Americans   it   is  still  a  major  and  important  and  incredibly  rare  occurrence.     So  in  conclusion  these  are  a  few  reasons  why  even  though  the  wedding  is  happening  all  the  way  across  the   Atlantic   Ocean   Americans   still   care   and   watch   the   royal   wedding.   The   wedding   is   a   great   way   to   both  witness  history  and  for  little  girls  dream  about  becoming  a  princess.  To  them  the  royal  wedding  is  essentially  a  real  life  fairytale  and  it  really  is  an  important  event  to  them.  So  even  though  I  didn’t  watch  or  care  much  for  the  royal  wedding  I  can  definitely  understand  why  some  Americans  (including  my  mom  and  sisters)  care  about  the  royal  wedding.

MAY  JUNE  2011

Students Reflect What has your first year of Prep taught you?

In   my   first   year   at   Prep   I   learned   many   things   that   have  helped   me   through   the   year.     I   learned   to   be   more  responsible   for  myself   and  my   school  work.     I  was   able   to  eventually  be  able  to  do  everything  on  my  own  rather  than  sometimes   having   my   parents   handle   the   situation.     I  learned   that   every   grade   can   make   a   difference   for   both  quarter   and   the   year   end   grade.     If   I   needed   to   speak   to   a  teacher   about   something,   I   learned   how   to   approach   the  conversation   the   right  way.     Along  with   these   lessons,   I’ve  learned   the   basic   do’s   and   don’ts   about   high   school   like  always   listening   to   your   teacher   and   the   importance   of  always  following  the  rules  even  if  they    seem  pointless  or  if  you  think  you  won’t  get  caught.    (Tim  Falvey)

Here   at   Prep   I’ve   learned   more   than   just  academics,   I   have   learned   teamwork   and   a  level  of  work   that  only  students  here  at  Prep  can  say  they  have  experienced.    Teamwork,  at  Prep,   is  something  that  is  practiced  on  sports  teams  but  also   in  the  classroom.    As  students  in  a  class,  we  meet  others  and  help  each  other  out.     Some  may   say   that   is   a   basic   thing   that  everyone   knows   but   until   I   came   to   Prep   I  didn’t   know   the   true  meaning   of   team  work.    (Scott  Ghavidel)

I  have  learned  it  is  very  easy  to  make  friends  here  at  Prep!  (James  Artell)

I  have  learned  that  it  takes  a  lot  of  hard  work  to  succeed!  (Austin  Cantwell)

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?

There  is  much  advice  I  would  give  to  an  incoming  freshmen  but  the  first  thing  I  would  tell  them  is  to  not  get  behind  on  their  work  or  they  will  struggle.    Also,  I  would  tell  them  to  take  responsibility  for  themselves.    It’s  your  work  and  your  future,  not  your  teacher’s  or  parents.  Use  your  free  periods  wisely  so  that  you  can  have  a  balance  between  afterschool  activities  and  school  work.  (Tim  Falvey)      Two  things  I  would  tell  freshmen  are  to  do  the  computer  literature  course  over  the  summer  and  play  sports.    Even  if  you  aren’t  skilled  in  a  particular  sport  try  it  out  or  participate  in  other  activities  because  that  way  you  will  get  the  Prep  experience.  (Scott  Ghavidel)

I   would   advise   all   freshmen   to  manage   their  time  and  to  get  their  work  done.      (Dyshae  Baldwin)      Get  involved  with  sports,  clubs  or  intramurals  so  that  you  can  meet  people  more  easily.    Take  advantage   of   easy   quizzes   so   that   you   can  relax  on  big  tests.  (Ryan  Zentner)      I  would  tell  the  freshmen  that  Prep  students  are  one  big  family  that  help  people  in  need.  I  would  tell  them  to  enjoy  their  four  years  at  Prep  and  to  get  involved.  (A.  J.  Forno)
