• Costume, hair and makeup act as an instant indicator to us of a characters personality, job and status and can even indicate the time era the film is

set in.

• Facial expressions and body language provide a clear indicator of how someone is feeling. Face expressions can sometimes mean something different for example a smile could be happy or evil.

Positioning of characters and objects within a frame can draw attention to an important subject. Body positioning can show relationships between people. E.g the main focus is on the gun and his facial expressions.

• Lighting and colour can be used to achieve a variety of effects and highlight important characters with in the frame. Shadows can make characters look mysterious or menacing. Colours can indicate if a scene should be happy or sad for example bright colours create a happy environment where as black and dark colours make the feeling more

depressing.
