THE SOUL OF PROSPERITY
Creating the context for success in all areas of our lives.
Ruben J Guzman, MPH
3 Elements for Breakthrough
1. Shift in mindset, attitude, thinking, and consciousness
2. Corresponding shift in actions and behaviors
3. New structure for support and accountability to sustain the new mindset and practices
How do we change mindset?
All of life…
is in one of two states at any given moment. Either it is surviving or it is thriving, and that’s all there is. – Michael Kolitsky, PhD
Survival View of
Self
Wants, desires, issues, complaints, judgments, assessments, concerns, opinions, expectations, blame, shame, guilt, criticism, cynicism, skepticism, pessimism, resignation, manipulation, procrastination, rationalization, justification…
Thriving View of SelfWord, promises, agreements, commitments, responsibility, generosity, integrity, trust, honesty, compassion, acceptance, forgiveness, acknowledgement…
Organizations
A living, dynamic group of people brought together and functioning for a common purpose
Are either surviving or thriving
Context
The context shapes the content How we see things Determines the outcome Is always decisive
Scarcity context
Is a conversation that HAS US We’re blind to how prevalent it is in
life – it’s all around us We’re fish in the bowl Maintained by three myths
“There’s not enough”
Our world is deficient Generates fear and survival Make a list where you say
there’s not enough
“More is better”
We judge others and ourselves We never arrive A race with no winners,
with no end Make a list where you say more
is better
“There’s no use. Why bother? I give
up!”
Statements of justification Resignation or hopelessness Given up trying to change Make a list of where you say this
We tend to give up… On circumstances
“The economy will never get back to where it was.”
On others“George will never understand.”
On ourselves“I’ll just never be able to be fit again.”
Why does scarcity persist?
It’s all about SURVIVAL! Life becomes about “making it” Agreement – becomes “truth” Once we see this, we can begin
to create a new context
However…there is
another option…
Sufficiency
A context that there IS enough And it’s finite Three truths keep it alive
Flow
Everything is energy, and it’s always flowing, always changing
Time, money and energy are like water The greater the flow,
the greater the power What activities increase the flow?
What we appreciate,appreciates
Whatever we put time, money, energy and attention to – flourishes
The more we appreciate, the greater the value
AbundanceDictionary: More than sufficient quantity A great supply Great plenty Wealth Ample Plentiful
Epicurus
Living in abundance
The joy from gaining access to and stepping into new arenas of possibilities and opportunities that were previously unseen or undiscovered.
Your mission…
Eliminate complaining about ANYTHING for 30 days in a row.
Journal 5 new things that you are grateful for each day.
Collaborationcreates prosperity
Harnessing the power of team When 2 or more are assembled… Eg. A team of horses
Your mission…
Practice: “How may I be of service to you?”
Creating sufficiency
By generating, distinguishing and making known
to ourselves and to others
the power and presence of our existing resources and unique contributions
Getting accessCreate a list of:
1. Passionately committed to
2. Love about my life – grateful for
3. Love to do and enjoy doing
4. Really good at
5. Proudest accomplishments
6. Who I admire
7. Organizations
Partner exercise
One person shares, the other just listens Thank your partner for sharing Then switch After you both share, explore “How can we support each other?”
Inside this context
If we look around, we will find what we need – there’s always enough
We are whole and complete We naturally share our resources
Sufficiency speaks of…Gratitude, fulfillment, wholeness, inner riches, commitment, love, trust, respect, contribution, resilience, faith, compassion, partnership, responsibility, integrity, generosity…
IMAGINE…
What would be possible if you and everyone you interact with could
function from the mindset of thriving, sufficiency and abundance?
Managing thoughts
We are what we think.
All that we arearises with our thoughts.
With our thoughtswe remake the world.
- Buddha
All we achieveand all that we fail to achieveis the direct resultof our own thoughts. You are todaywhere your thoughtshave brought you;you will be tomorrowwhere your thoughtstake you. - James Allen
What will it take for YOU
to be successful?
Integrity
Making promises to yourself
and keeping them Being true to your word
Commitment
Dedication to the long term course of ACTION
Never give up!
Being Coachable
Find the best coaches available Find coaches you can completely
trust Create partnership for support
Old Buddhist saying
“To know
and not to use
is not yet to know.”
