3-2. Circuit Description

DM-140 BoardThe DM-140 board demodulates Y, R-Y, B-Y, CAM SYNC, and SKIN GATE signals. The multiplexed signal is separated into power voltage and the RF signal on the IO-214 board. The RFsignal is transferred to the MPX filter on the DM-140 board where the Y RF signal and the CHROMA RFsignal are extracted. These signals are then demodulated to be used as each signal. This board consists of cable length detector circuit, cable compensation circuit, and their demodulatorcircuit. The cable length is detected from the amplitude of Y modulation wave. Then compensation of amplitudeand phase in accordance with respective Y and color difference modulation waves is carried out in thecable compensation circuit. These signals are then demodulated in the demodulator circuit.

Cable Compensation CircuitThis circuit comprises 4-stage phase equalizers and amplifiers for compensation of Y, R-Y, and B-Ymodulation waves respectively to compensate attenuation or phase delay of modulation waves due tocables. When the comparator circuit judges Y compensation circuit output level as insufficient compensa-tion, the compensation amplifier is activated to amplify the output level. As long as insufficient compen-sation continues, further compensation is added until signals become adequate. The R-Y or B-Y compensation circuit, with the same structure as the Y compensation circuit, compen-sates each signal by interlocking with the Y compensation circuit.

Cable Length Detector CircuitThis circuit determines whether the amplitude of Y compensation circuit output is adequate for demodu-lation or not. If inadequate, this circuit controls the Y, R-Y, and B-Y compensation circuits to add furthercompensation. In order to determine whether compensation is adequate or not, this circuit amplifies the Ycompensation circuit output, peak-holds the output amplitude, and then compares the DC value with thereference voltage. If the amplitude is inadequate level, this circuit adds further compensation to the signalby controlling applicable compensation circuit.

Y Demodulator CircuitThe Y signal is demodulated by the demodulator using a carrier whose phase is the same as the Y modu-lation wave. The demodulated Y signal passes through the amplifier and the buffer, and is then trans-ferred to the low pass filter (LPF) where the signal is clamped and output after its unnecessary 22.5 MHzcarrier component is eliminated. The CAM SYNC and SKIN GATE signals are also demodulated in thesame way by a carrier whose phase is different (by 90 degrees) from the Y signal.

Color Difference Signal Demodulator CircuitThe B-Y color difference signal is demodulated by the demodulator using a carrier whose phase is thesame as the B-Y modulation wave. The demodulated B-Y signal passes through the amplifier and thebuffer, and is then transferred to the LPF where the signal is clamped and output after its unnecessary 45MHz carrier component is eliminated. The R-Y signal is also demodulated in the same way by a carrierwhose phase is different (by 90 degrees) from the B-Y signal.

TR-133B BoardThe TR-133B board demodulates the RF signals of MIC1, MIC2, INCOM1, INCOM2, CAM DATA, andTONE transmitted from the camera, and modulates the PGM1, PGM2, INCOM1, INCOM2, CCUDATA, and H CONT signals to transmit them to the camera. In addition, this board also modulatesRETURN VIDEO and PROMPT VIDEO (and AUX VIDEO as well by selection).

H CONT Modulator CircuitThis circuit modulates the H CONT signal transferred from the IV-57B board. H CONT is a controlsignal to match the H phases of camera SG and CCU SG. The oscillation frequency varies with the HCONT signal voltage. The RF signal modulated in the modulator circuit is merged with other RF signalsthrough the buffer and the band pass filter (BPF).

CCU DATA Modulator CircuitThis circuit modulates the CCU DATA signal transferred from the AT-155B board. As in the H CONTmodulator circuit, the modulated RF signal is merged with other RF signals through the buffer and the BPF.

INCOM Modulator CircuitThis circuit D/A converts the INCOM1 and INCOM2 signals transferred from the AU-295 board, andfilters the analog signals with the LPF, and then modulates them. As in the H CONT modulator circuit, the modulated RF signal is merged with other RF signals through the buffer and the BPF.

CAM DATA/TONE Demodulator CircuitThis circuit has functions for demodulation of the CAM DATA/TONE signals transferred from thecamera to CCU-590, shaping the CAM DATA signal waveform, and for TONE detection. The RF signalwhose modulation frequency is 5.6 MHz is demodulated by the FM demodulator IC. The CAM DATA isshaped after the residual carrier is eliminated, and is then sent to the AT-155B board. The TONE signaltransferred to the TONE detector circuit is used to control ON/OFF of 180 VDC supplied from CCU-590to the camera.

MIC1/2 Demodulator CircuitThis circuit demodulates the MIC1, MIC2 signals transferred from the camera to CCU-590. The RFsignal whose modulation frequency is 6.2/6.7 MHz passes through the BPF, and is then demodulated bythe FM demodulator IC. Then the residual carrier is eliminated by the LPF, and the demodulated signal isA/D converted and is then output to the AU-295 board.

INCOM Demodulator CircuitThe RF signal whose modulation frequency is 7.1 MHz or 7.4 MHz is demodulated by the FM demodula-tor IC in the same way as the MIC signals. The demodulated signal passes through the LPF, is A/Dconverted, and is then output to the AU-295 board.

Prompter Modulator CircuitThis circuit performs AM modulation of the VBS signals input from the PROMPT VIDEO connector onthe rear panel, and then sends the signal to the CA. The input VBS signal passes through the buffer, LPF,and the clamp, and is AM modulated by the modulator IC, and is then amplified by the RF amplifier. TheRF amplifier gain is controlled using the compensation data (cable length) provided from the DM-140board. The signal is transferred further to the RF amplifier and the 100 MHz BPF, and is then output.

RETURN Modulator CircuitThis circuit performs FM modulation of the VBS signal that is input from the RET1 through RET4connector on the rear panel and is processed (Y mixing) on the IV-57B board, and then sends the signal tothe CA. The input VBS signal passes through the buffer, LPF, and the clamp, and is then amplified. It isthen FM modulated by the modulator IC through the buffer. The modulation wave gain is also controlledusing the cable length data like the prompter modulator circuit.

AU-295 BoardThe AU-300 board D/A converts and outputs the MIC1/MIC2 signals demodulated and A/D converted onthe TR-133B board to the rear panel. It also A/D converts the PGM1/2 signals input from the rear panel, and sends them to the TR-133B board. The board D/A converts the INCOM1/2 signals demodulated andA/D converted on the TR-133B board, and then connects the external INCOM line and the front panel. Italso A/D converts the Panel INCOM, PROD, and ENG signals sent from the external, and then transferthem to the PLD for digital signal processing.Furthermore, the board functions for TALLY signaling system switchover and external interface.

MIC1/2 Output CircuitThis circuit converts the MIC1/MIC2 digital signals demodulated and A/D converted on the TR-133Bboard to analog signals, and then amplifies and outputs them to the XLR-3 connector on the rear panel. The MIC output level can be selected (0 dB or _20 dB) by S18 and S19 in this circuit.

PGM1/2 AUDIO Input CircuitThis circuit amplifies the analog PGM1/2 signals input from the D-sub 25pin connector on the rear panel, and then A/D converts them and outputs the digital PGM1/2 signals to the TR-133B board. The PGM1/2 AUDIO signals are converted from balanced to unbalanced signal by IC204 and IC205. Theinput levels of the signals are selected (0 dB or _20 dB) by S200 and 201.

INCOM Switching CircuitThis circuit switches INCOM lines on the CA side and the CCU-590 front panel side. There are threetypes of INCOM lines: PRODUCER line, ENGINEER line (external system), and PRIVATE line isolatedfrom the external system. The switching control signal is sent from the AT-155B board with IIC data, andis input into the PLD IC105 that converts the INCOM signals with digital data.

External Interface CircuitThis circuit has three types of 2-channel interfaces with external INCOM systems, supporting 2W, 4W,RTS, and Clear Com interfaces. These interfaces are selected by S204, S205, S206, and S207 accordingto the system connected.

External TALLY Signal Input CircuitThis circuit can accept three types of TALLY signal input: contact input, 12 VDC input, and 5 VDCinput. These types of input can be selected independently for RED and GREEN TALLY signals byswitching S1, S2, S3, and S4. Even if actual input signal does not equal the setting, no failure will occur.Furthermore, this circuit is compatible with any signal polarity for 12 VDC and 5 VDC inputs.IC1, IC2, D8 to D13, Q8, Q9, and T1 compose a power circuit for the external TALLY input circuit only, which is ground isolated by the transformer T1. The TALLY signal output is also electrically isolated bythe photocoupler PH1.

IV-57B BoardThe IV-57B board receives the Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals demodulated on the DM-140 board, convertsthem to digital signals using the 27 MHz clock, and then outputs the digital signals to the EN-156B board. The SKIN GATE signal from the DM-140 board is also converted to digital signal, is delayed in the PLD,and is then output to the EN-156B board.Furthermore, this board compares the CHU-SYNC signal from the DM-140 board with the H phase ofTG in the PLD, and then outputs it as H-CONT signal to the TR-133B board.

Y/R-Y/B-Y A/D Converter CircuitThe Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals from the DM-140 board pass through the inverter amplifier, LPF, andinverter amplifier where their DC components are fed back and clamped. The signals are then A/Dconverted to 10 bit, 3.3 V p-p parallel signals by IC117 to IC119 with 27 MHz clock input. The R-Y andB-Y signals are then output to the EN-156B board through the D-FF. While the Y signal is delayed in thePLD IC307, and is then output through the D-FF.

SKIN TONE GATE SignalThe SKIN TONE GATE signal from the DM-140 board is input into the D-FF IC107 with 27 MHz clockinput, and is then transferred to the PLD IC307 where the signal is delayed in the same way as the Ysignal. Then the signal is output to the EN-156B board through the D-FF IC121.

H-CONT SignalQ301, Q303, and IC301 on this board detect the H phase of the CHU-SYNC signal from the DM-140board, and transfer it to IC303 where the H signal input from the H timing generator in the PLD IC304 iscompared with the H phase of the CHU-SYNC signal. The difference is output to the TR-133B board asH-CONT signal.

Analog RETURN VIDEO SignalThe analog RETURN signal selected on the DIF-148 board is sent to the IV-57B board where its wave-form level is adjusted by the video amplifier IC409. Then the signal passes through the MIX amplifierIC412, and is then output to the modulator circuit on the TR-133B board. In the VF MIX mode where themain-line signal is mixed with the RETURN VIDEO signal, the RETURN VIDEO level is changed stepby step by IC410. Regarding the main-line signal, the digital signal whose level is set in accordance withthe RETURN VIDEO level by the PLD (RET TG) IC307 is D/A converted by IC408, low-pass filtered, mixed by IC412, and is then output from this board. To synchronize the phases of the RETURN VIDEO signal and the main-line signal at the time of Ymixing, the H/V SYNC signal is extracted from the input analog RETURN VIDEO signal by the syncseparator circuit (Q300, IC309, IC302), and the H/V SYNC signal is transferred to IC307.

SDI RETURN VIDEO SignalIn the SDI RETURN VIDEO input mode, the serial data of the SDI signal selected on the DIF-148 boardis input into IC300 for serial-to-parallel conversion. The converted 10-bit parallel data is input into IC307,and the output signal is D/A converted by IC408. The analog signal passes through the LPF and the MIXamplifier IC412, and is then output from this board. In the SDI RETURN input mode, the Y MIX processing is performed digitally in IC307, which enablesfine setting of MIX ratio.

EN-156B BoardThis board generates VBS, PIX, and WFM signals by the D-ENC from the Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals thatare A/D converted using the 27 MHz clock, and converts the signals to analog signals, and then outputsthem. This board also generates, D/A converts, and then outputs the R/G/B signals. The SDI signal is alsooutput through the half-band filter and format encoder.

VBS/WFM/PIX Signal CircuitThe 10 bit, 3.3 V p-p parallel T/R-Y/B-Y signals from the IV-57B board pass through the D-FF (IC102 toIC105), and are then input into the CB generator IC106 where CB output and camera output are switched. The CB output is switched in accordance with respective specifications such as 100 %, 75 %, SMPTE orEIA. The IC106 output is then input into IC326 for digital encoding in which VBS, WFM, PIX, and othersignals are generated. The character signal and the SKIN GATE signal are also mixed at this time. Thegenerated signals are D/A converted, and are then output as analog signals.

Y/R-Y/B-Y, RGB Signal CircuitThe Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals input into IC106 are delayed in the built-in delay circuit to match the phasewith the VBS signal phase. The R/G/B signals are also generated by the built-in matrix circuit. IC106selects which signals (Y/R-Y/B-Y or RGB) to output. The output signals of this IC are converted toanalog signals by IC107 to IC109, and are then output as Y or G signal, R-Y or R signal, and B-Y or Bsignal.

Front Panel (RM-B750) Video Signal Processing CircuitRGB signals must be supplied as signals for optional front panel. As described above, the IC output isswitched to either Y/R-Y/B-Y signals or RGB signals according to the setting of the CCU rear paneloutput signal. When RGB is set, RGB signals are output as they are, but when Y/R-Y/B-Y is set, a circuitto convert the IC output to RGB signals and output them is required. This is set by S1001.IC101 and Q1001 to Q1006 are used as a Y/R-Y/B-Y to G signal converter circuit, and also as a G signaloutput circuit when RGB is set. The signal output from the circuit is transferred to the character mixingcircuit, and is then output to the front panel. Such circuit is also provided for the R and B signals respec-tively.

SDI OutputThe Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals from IC106 are input into the half-band filter IC509 to be converted from8:8:8 to 4:2:2 signals. Then the signals are input into IC502 where mixing of the character signals withthe SDI signal, mixing of the SKIN GATE signal are carried out. The signals are encoded to the SDIsignal format, and are then output. The signals are converted from parallel to serial signals by IC503 andIC504, and are then output as SDI signals.

Subcarrier Genlock CircuitIC326 perform subcarrier genlock synchronization. The SC digital data from IC326 is D/A converted byIC301, and is then input into the phase comparator IC306. The subcarrier signal of the external syncsignal and the sync signal are also input into IC306 to compare their phases. The difference passesthrough the burst gate, is A/D converted by IC311, and is then re-input into IC326 where subcarriergenlock synchronization is carried out.

2. Standardization of PartsSome repair parts supplied by Sony differ from thoseused for the unit. These are because of parts common-ality and improvement.Parts list has the present standardized repair parts.

3. Stock of PartsParts marked with “o” at SP (Supply Code) column ofthe spare parts list may not be stocked. Therefore, thedelivery date will be delayed.

4. HarnessHarnesses with no part number are not registered asspare parts. In need of repair, get components shown in the list andrepair using them.

3-14. Unleaded Solder

Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with alead free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead.(Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not comeprinted with the lead free mark due to their particular size.)

: LEAD FREE MARK

m. Be sure to use the unleaded solder for the printed circuit

board printed with the lead free mark.. The unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 d

higher than the ordinary solder, therefore, it is recom-mended to use the soldering iron having a temperatureregulator.

. The ordinary soldering iron can be used but the iron tiphas to be applied to the solder joint for a slightly longertime. The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away ifthe heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful.

SAFETY CHECK-OUT

After correcting the original service problem, perform the following safety checks beforereleasing the set to the customer :

Check the metal trim, “metallized” knobs, screws, and all other exposed metal parts for ACleakage. Check leakage as described below.

LEAKAGE TEST

The AC leakage from any exposed metal part toearth ground and from all exposed metal parts toany exposed metal part having a return tochassis, must not exceed 3.5 mA. Leakagecurrent can be measured by any one of threemethods.

1. A commercial leakage tester, such as theSimpson 229 or RCA WT-540A. Follow themanufacturers’ instructions to use theseinstruments.

2. A battery-operated AC milliammeter. TheData Precision 245 digital multimeter issuitable for this job.

3. Measuring the voltage drop across a resistorby means of a VOM or battery-operated ACvoltmeter. The “limit” indication is 5.25 V, soanalog meters must have an accurate low-voltage scale. The Simpson 250 and SanwaSH-63Trd are examples of a passive VOMthat is suitable. Nearly all battery operateddigital multimeters that have a 20 V AC rangeare suitable. (See Fig. A)
