Beloved Family,
I am so blessed to be a part of the
First Baptist Church of Douglass,
and this is an exciting time in the life
of our church! First, as we approach
Easter Sunday we are powerfully
reminded of the deliberate journey our God and Savior
Jesus Christ made on the road to resurrection. We will
mourn and commemorate His death with our Tenebrae
service at 7:00 p.m. on Good Friday, April 18 (see p.3 for
more details); and we will rejoice and celebrate His glori-
ous resurrection with our services on Easter Sunday!
This is what the Lord of Hosts says:
Return to Me… and I will return to you.
Zechariah 1:3 (HCSB)
Even as we exult in the Easter triumph of Christ, all
members of FBCD are urged to be preparing their hearts
for revival services which are coming to FBCD Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4 (see opposite for more details). Dr.
Greg Frizzell, the Prayer and Spiritual Awakening Special-
ist of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and the
North American Mission Board will lead us to respond to
God’s call to “Return to Me” (Zechariah 1:3). If you have
not already received one, a special three-week devotional book authored by Dr. Frizzell is available to you at the
church. This perceptive study will guide you to encounter
Scripture and lead you to pray so as to prepare your heart
for complete surrender to the Holy Spirit’s work in your
life. Brothers and sisters in Christ, clear your schedules,
and do whatever you must to be here for every session. Let us see what God will do through our church as our love for
the Lord and passion to serve Him become blazing hot!
As we look forward to these special services, I invite
you to consider with me the great sacrifice of our God and
Savior Jesus Christ upon the cross and
how His sacrificial death serves as an
atoning sacrifice for our sins. In light of His love for us, let us be faithful to
return to Him with thankful hearts that
are prepared to serve Him!

FBCD Will Be “Going Deeper with God”
in Weekend Revival Services, May 3-4 Eight months of prayer and intentional
preparation will culminate with FBCD’s
revival services on Friday and Saturday,
May 3-4. The services will be led by Dr.
Gregory Frizzell. Greg serves both the
Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma
and the North American Mission Board
as a specialist on prayer and spiritual
awakening (revival). He is a remarkable communicator of
God’s Word, and his focus on going deeper with God
through prayer, surrender, and intentional consecration
will yield immediate application to the Christian walk of
any believer.
FBCD Revival Schedule Saturday, May 3: 7:00 p.m. A special session regarding concerns about family and
loved ones

FBCD GOAL: $1,500
FBCD has opted to divide this Missions Offering. The first $750
given will be sent to the North American Mission Board to support
missions throughout the United States and Canada. All funds given
over this amount will go to our local association, the SCASB, in sup-
port of missions and our own church planting catalyst, Tom Edwards.

During FBCD’s March 23, 2014 business meeting,
members authorized several renovations of the church’s
sanctuary. Renovations will include: placing sheetrock
over the faux wood paneling; replacing its original, 33-
year old carpet; and strategically moving from pews to
sanctuary chairs.
Preliminary investigations into these renovations began
in late 2011, when it became apparent that cracking in the
sanctuary’s ceiling texture would need to be fixed and
that a reconfiguration of the platform area would make it
more functional for the church’s worship team. Repair of
the ceiling would necessitate removal of the pews, which
would provide an excellent opportunity to perform sheet-
rock work on the walls and installation of new carpeting,
if desired. The thought to replace the pews with sanctuary
chairs came as a result of the church’s growth in attend-
ance compared to the comfortable seating capacity of the
sanctuary. The “comfortable seating capacity” of the
sanctuary with pews is approximately 150. Projections
indicate that, by moving to sanctuary chairs, the comfort-
able seating capacity can be increased to 182.
From the outset, the church enjoyed widespread
agreement on the sheetrock and carpeting proposals. A
straw poll after one morning service indicated 90.1% in
favor of the sheetrock and 95.8% in favor of new carpet.
Both proposals were adopted unanimously in the March
business meeting.
The question of replacing the sanctuary pews with
chairs brought about the most discussion. In the straw
poll, 47% were in favor of chairs, and 53% were in favor
of pews (with 75% in favor of re-upholstering the pews).
Discussion very quickly highlighted the advantages and
concerns that each option had, and although the discus-
sion of the motion lasted for almost an hour, there was a
beautiful spirit of peace with mutual love and respect
throughout. Advocates of both positions learned from
Sanctuary Renovations Forthcoming 2
one another and were responsive to one another’s con-
cerns. Ultimately, by a ballot vote of 24 to 4, the final
vote was 85.7% in favor of replacing the pews with sanc-
tuary chairs.
The Property and Space and Décor Committees are
working to finalize the installation dates for the sheetrock
as well as making final selections of carpet and chairs. It
is hoped that the renovations will be coordinated such
that they will be completed during the last two weeks of
June.
A Word from Pastor Voyt:
Because many of you were unable to be at our
church’s March 23 business meeting, I’d like to share
with you the essence of that meeting. We had 31 voting
members present at the meeting. Above all else, it was
absolutely characterized by a sweet spirit of peace, love,
respect, and careful consideration of our Scriptural man-
dates to seek the growth of the Kingdom of God through
our corporate church as well as to care and watch out for
the needs of one another as individual members.
I know that many people selflessly sacrificed their
own preferences and even needs in order to do what was
necessary for our church to continue to grow and to pro-
vide for future growth in both our church’s worship and
discipleship settings. While I truly believe that this was a
decision that was essential for our church at this time, I
am still in awe of the self-sacrifice, trust, peace, and
steadfast unity that was displayed in that meeting.
Finally, I would note that there was a general sense of
agreement (supported by 77.9% affirmation in the straw
poll) that it would be wise for FBCD to begin to investi-
gate the possibility of future construction in order to be
better prepared for our church’s long-term growth and to
better minister to those who need the Lord and those who
are striving to grow spiritually.
A Wednesday Night Growth Group A Wednesday Night Growth Group -- 6:30 p.m.6:30 p.m.
On Good Friday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m., First Baptist
Church of Douglass will observe a Tenebrae service. The
word Tenebrae is Latin, and is translated “darkness.” The
Tenebrae Service was well-attended last year, and it is
worth noting that it has been said that the service becomes
more meaningful through repeated attendance as the wor-
shipper absorbs more and more of its deep significance.
We will begin by sharing the fellowship of the Lord’s
Supper, reflecting not only upon the body and blood of
our God and Savior Jesus Christ, but also the Last Supper
which Christ shared with His disciples. Worshippers will
have an opportunity to record prayers, confessions, or
thoughts, and leave them at the foot of the cross. We will
then begin the Tenebrae Service, which is characterized
by readings from the Gospels describing the events lead-
ing to the crucifixion of our Lord. Each reading will be
followed by a song which further reflects upon the read-
ings. As the Service of Darkness progresses, the sanctuary
lighting will gradually be reduced until only a single light,
representing Christ, remains. This light will then be extin-
guished, a reminder of the physical death Christ suffered
upon the cross for our sins. In the darkness, we will be left
to meditate upon that which Jesus endured for us. After a
time of contemplation, a few lights will be turned on, and
the congregation may then depart the sanctuary in solemn
silence or linger in continued prayer and meditation.
The Tenebrae is an extremely solemn time of worship
befitting the remembrance of Almighty God suffering and
dying for those He created. This service may evoke deep
sorrow, but the solemn observance of Christ’s death on
Good Friday serves to highlight the incredible celebration
with which we worship on Resurrection Sunday!
