Message from Principal Kelley  Dear Bear Country,

We hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving break! You may have seen the Governor's address, putting additional restrictions back in place; however, no mandates were issued regarding schools.

In addition, our Somerset board of directors met on Friday the 27th and passed a motion that would allow an individual campus to make a determination to return the campus to an all-virtual learning model, should the campus experience operational challenges with continuing to provide instruction on a daily basis. At this time, Somerset Aliante is not

experiencing any operational challenges but should that change, we will meet with the board president and our management company to determine the best course of action. In the meantime, we will continue with our virtual

learners participating virtually and our in-person learners participating in person. Our statistics regarding the number of positive cases and/or exposures were shared during the board meeting. We had parental requests to share those

statistics. Moving forward, we will publish those numbers here within the newsletter. We thank our in-person learning families, for taking the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy and ask that we all continue those

efforts. Please do not send your child to school if they are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms. Please ensure that your child wears a mask to school every day. Please continue to talk to your student about safety protocols while at school. And please, communicate immediately with the school nurse should your family have contact with anyone who

tests positive for Covid-19 or regarding any potential exposure. Thank you.

Teacher Spotlight ☆ Mrs. Melyssa Schouweiler☆   2nd grade teacher 

“The beautiful

thing about learning is that no one can take that away from you.” -BB King

Mrs. Schouweiler attended the University of Nevada Reno (WOLFPACK!) with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Elementary Education and is one class away from earning

her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from WGU.

She has been a teacher for eight years and has taught first through third grade. Mrs. Schouweiler became an educator because she wants to create a positive change in

education, give back to the community, and make a difference in the lives of as many students as possible.

Mrs. Schouweiler did competitive dance for ten years and coached our middle school cheer team last school year. She is happily married and has a four-year-old son. The Aliante Bears

are lucky to have such an enthusiastic and caring teacher guiding them each day!

National School Lunch Program (NSLP) ALL Somerset Students can get FREE LUNCH through the Seamless Summer Option/Closed Site Waiver.

No Application is necessary, however, ALL MEALS MUST BE PRE-ORDERED. The weekly Pre-Order window is open from Monday 8:00 AM to Wednesday 4:00 PM.

Form closes at 4:00pm each Wednesday.

Meal distribution is Mondays 9:00-10:00AM OR 12:30-1:30PM through our school carline. Please email Bridget.Hansen@somersetnv.org if you have any questions.

iReady Diagnostic Testing Schedule

When will my child complete the 2nd i-Ready Diagnostic?

In person students will complete the Diagnostic during their in person session. Virtual students will log in to Zoom during their regular session times to complete the assessment.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Why is my child completing the 2nd i-Ready Diagnostic? This diagnostic will give us data to see each student’s growth this school year and areas to focus on for the second half of the school year. Even in these circumstances, we have seen considerable improvements in the students and are so proud of their hard work and dedication. Your child’s homeroom teacher will share your child’s progress after testing is complete.

How can I help my child who is taking the assessment at home be successful?

● Find a quiet space for your child to take the Diagnostic. ● Confirm headphones, audio, and video are working on the device your child is using. The video will need to

be on as teachers monitor your child during the Diagnostic through ZOOM. ● Gather paper and pencils for your child to use during the Diagnostic. ● Remind your child to do their best, and it is okay if they do not know an answer. ● Please do not help your child as this may lead to the online lessons not being at the right level for your child,

which will make them too difficult or too easy.
